The actual manifestation of these moves,Historically applied from Dusk till Dawn when our Fighting Pilipino soldiers was left all alone in the open field of "YULTONG" SOUTH KOREA, In a blood draining Hand to Hand Combat ( fixed bayonets )duel with Chinese and North Korean "REDS"At the height of Korean War in the 50's which resulted to the death of 20,000 COMMUNIST RED SOLDIERS!?!?!?😎😎😎
That's why the Filipinos teach weapon use first because you get acquainted with the movement then you go to shorter weapons like the knife, palm sticks or the dulo, the empty handed. Because what you did with the weapons you're also doing empty handed. Because your hand is what leads the weapon, stick, or knife. Since your hands are the root movement & action then take the weapon out of hand & do same technique
Arnis is a concept of Itak or panabas, No version in swords, create ur own version if you most like swords. Arnis/baston/itak/tabak/ is our national arts During the Spanish regime, here in our beloved, the Philippines 🇵🇭 If the Spanish military saw you in training this weapon you will be capture and charge for bandit . That's why our indigenous people use a secret version of art that is the baston.( unbladed weapon)
Oh my. I was shocked this is being thought to every one. That martial arts technique is instrumental to killing plenty during ww2 in the Philippines. My grandpa is an instructor to guerilla during that time. He was teaching arnis but instead guerillas carry and used bolos. Can you imagine how devastting to the opponents? An arnis master that uses bolo in a combat can decapitate and separate all the limbs in few seconds. This martial arts technique intention is to kill the opponent. Look at the knife attack, inflicting several wound in a second. According to my grandpa this martial arts emerge during the spanish occupation but then used to american during the filipino american war and to japanese in ww2 which this was evolved to much deadly approach. Arnis stick was just an instructional substitute to bolos. That arnis technique isnt for the stick but for bolos.
Ju Manggu thats right, in the old days, the sticks where actually machetes or similar..but for training purposes they use sticks now..otherwise there would not be so much students anymore 😬
SO NOW THEY UNDERSTAND EVEN OUT NUMBERED THEY DEFEAT THE MEN OF MAGELLAN IMAGINE IF THATS NOT A STICK,IF THATS A BOLO OR KRIS OR A KAMPILAN EVERY HIT, BODY PARTS ARE ALREADY FLYING ALL OVER THE PLACE THATS THE STYLE ARE FOREFATHERS USE TO DEFEND OUR MAHARLIKA MOTHER LAND!!😇🇵🇭
AGAIN THE PATRIARCH S OF CEBU CALLED THIS BAILE DE ESCRIMA, DANCING WITH MY STICKS,AND EVERY DANCE MOVES ARE FATAL WHEN IT HITS, THE MOST DEADLY IS THE SHORT PART OF THE CANE IT CAN CRUSHED YOUR WINDPIPES AND THRUST YOUR SPINE THAT MAKES AND FEELS YOU LIKE A VEGETABLE LATER!?😇😎😂🇵🇭
Why cannot I get rid of feeling that these filipino masters, are boasting, making themselves a good publicity and doing all the same and their trainings look the same everywhere? dont get me wrong, their mastery is great I can see it as anyone else, but it is all the same like they are epigons of someone who started it....And they show you tricks as if it was nothing to do at all...But have you seen the real fight? no more tricks....brutality and agility that's it-of course , practising these tricks makes you more at ease with weapons, but anyway, they are repeating-the masters-one after another-epigonic way, no one is original....
Hahahha didn't you understood? They are doing this to let other nations that we-Filipinos have our own kind of Martial Arts that exist a long time ago. For Asian like us, we are not selfish 😊 we share what we have to others. You know, every country tribe, community and nation has its own forms of fighting skills. The Arnis is been centuries ago. And the principle of this Martial arts is not to kill anyone's opponent, but to survive. If your looking for the original one, why not time travel in past if you can. We know and these "masters" know the real fight out there. Don't make your self worry about it. They're not ignorant at all🙂
They are supposed to be the same. Kali/escrima/arnis/FMA or whatever you want to call it stems from a single framework and single philosophy. The same set of moves, the same strikes, the same foot works, the same principles. The variations of different schools are only about the focus. For example, Balintawak focuses on close range. Modern Arnis reduces the fatality and made it sporty so anyone can enjoy it without committing homicides while Petiki Tirsia kept the deadly combative part. Ilustrisimo kept the Spanish influences, Doce Pares is more traditional yet observing modern influences. And many many more others out there. But even though they are different schools of thought, the underlying framework is the same under the hood. These grandmasters actually know each other, or their masters before them are maybe even escrimadors/competitors in different escrima fights back in the old days when this stick fighting was like a singing competitions of today that held in different towns. And if you go back way way way back before in the olden times many centuries ago, this is actually a killing art from way back the Majapajit empire taught to the soldiers. When something is being taught in that massive scale, it means there's a curriculum, it means it's been standardized. Hence it means people will learn that standardized lesson which can also be thought from fathers to sons and so on to our time. Therefore, they all look the same.
Great Teacher, great person, patient and hardworking, clean system, practical, without frills, and empty of useless things ... one of the great Mr. Tongson

You underestimate those strikes. In the video "Balitok Eskrima Grandmaster Abner Pasa" you can see how someone breaks a coconut with a rattan stick with not even a hard abonico.
