Book Nerd talking about books! Duh... I love fantasy, horror, thrillers and anything weird. I read loads of new releases and review them to get them on your radar. I have a Standalone Book Club and would love to be friends!
So someone said that they can't get behind this book because it's so descriptive and doesn't let you create questions as to what is going on, but personally I like the writing style, I can clearly imagine what's going on.
Great video! I have a cult novel being released soon! Here's my teaser ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iBxnPW4p7OU.htmlsi=fv3fwf42hTAMIv54
I was super impressed with this book, was nice to finely find a review that was as enthusiastic about it as I was. The part where you talk about how other characters could have been the mc and she was just “normal” but in a good way, is something I was thinking about before a saw this, so I was just stunned to here you talking about it. Any way sorry for the long comment. Thanks for posting ❤
I really loved Merren and I hope we get to see more of him in future books. I have the FairyLoot special edition and there’s an extra scene from Merren’s POV when he was accompanying Kel to the noodle shop to speak to Jerrod. This makes me think that Claire initially wanted to include more POVs but was told to stick to only Kel and Lin’s. Sucks cause I would have loved to hear more from Merren.
I tried to read Ninth House last year and couldn't get into it but I am intrigued by this one... also love how you structure your reviews and how they're so in-depth !
Great review as always! I’ve only read Leigh’s Grishaverse books, but I definitely want to try more from her. Have you read the Six of Crows duology? I didn’t really enjoy Shadow and Bone, but I love Six of Crows so so much! 💞
😂 I heartily chortled at the side-eye you gave the plant for grabbing your hair! Great outtake to leave in 😁 That wasn’t the only time you made me laugh out loud in this episode 😆 I doubt many of us have much experience with astrophysics, and “male SciFi experience” I guess in the Captain Kirk vein 😘 I only managed three books in March. BUT! One was a comic, and another was a carryover from February that I hadn’t quite finished. So technically I scored ONE! Tremendous, gold star ⭐️😝 🤕
@@Booksandothernerdthings The March book that I finished was a book two in a trilogy, “The Colour of Vengeance” by Rob J. Hayes. It was a mere 291 pages, 4⭐️. “That’s the only book you finished in the whole month,” you cry? Well, the book I then immediately started is an 830pg brick that I’m even now still reading (150pg to go 😮💨). The pages are so dense that I don’t find it comfortable to hold or read at night in bed, so it’s a daytime read when the light is good, hence it is taking a while.
I am currently reading it, I decided to read it because I have been in that town in Mexico, where the novel is located... I am surprised how the author made such a good setting of the town with fog, the abandoned mines, the forests and even the English cemetery.
Enjoyed your review of this. I just finished this book and had some of the same thoughts as you did with the book. Though I felt lost at the first part thinking I had been wrong and that it was a series at first. I was a little lost at first and then once the heist got underway I was getting into but then it was just done.
The personal anecdote about consuming Polish literature was a great aside! I’m not usually one for war novels, unless it’s in the far future, featuring 👽🛸 and pew-pew! Though I don’t tend to do historical too much either.
📚 There ARE so many books coming out. It seems so busy these days, but I don’t know if that’s just my increased awareness thanks to BookTubers such as yourself. 🚀 I have seen “Floating Hotel” on a few channels that I follow! The rest were unfamiliar however. 🧐 When you get accepted for an ARC are there stipulations like posting a review - written or spoken - somewhere? Do you have to provide a link to ‘validate’ your effort and hence improve your approval score? Does this mean you are more likely to be approved by certain folks, such that when you get denied by Turton’s people you have to work another angle to get noticed by them, or something? 🛒 I just ordered “The Book That Wouldn’t Burn” and “The Spear Cuts Through Water” yesterday (15th March) which are brand new paperback releases, so aren’t ‘new new’ IYSWIM!
There are so many books, I always just scratch the surface! For an ARC through Netgalley you mark it as read and add your review within the platform, you can also link any external review e.g. a video. The act of rating + reviewing improves your score. I do think for some publishers they're a bit more picky and they look into the people who request it. I also have a so-so score cause I've read about half of what I requested so that could be better, they recommend 80% i think. I probably could reach out to Turton's people directly and request an ARC that way. Uuuu hope you enjoy your paperbacks!
Shame, “The Final Hunt” had a really interesting sounding premise! 😆 No extra points for matching the make-up! 😆 IIRC my favourite from February was “The Mad Ship” by Robin Hobb, book 2 of the “Liveship Traders” trilogy. I actually started it last year, but took my time over it because I didn’t want to rush it when other things needed getting done.
Have you read We Hunt the Flames by Hafsah Faizal too? I read it a couple years ago and I was so disappointed I didn’t enjoy it as much as everyone else… I just didn’t really connect with the characters and overall felt like something was missing… I was thinking of giving the author a second chance (specially because of the Six of Crows vibes which I absolutely adore), but maybe it’s not worth it 😅
I felt exactly the same about We Hunt the Flames and was also hoping to feel differently about this one, but unfortunately didn’t. I feel like some things We Hunt the Flames did better than this one like atmosphere and the relationship. And yeah I was so excited about Six of Crows but honestly it kind of abandoned those vibes early on and the heist felt flat at least to me. I wouldn’t personally recommend but maybe you’ll feel differently 😅
I read the first chapter on my kindle and I just decided that I *had* to get the physical copies… I was starting to regret making an impulsive decision, but after this video I’m actually super excited that I did end up buying them so tysm 🥰
