Using astro turf instead of actual grass is used all the time in the south west US. The quality of the turf has really improved over the past 25 years.
He sort of predicted vr, but headsets like that were already being experimented with at the time, and he seemed to be imagining less technological innovation, and more magic.
As a voice actor, I know exactly what Karl means about thinking in someone’s accent. They’re a little too harsh on Karl sometimes. Good thing he doesn’t care. 😂
Karl talks a lot about growing up on an "estate". I know it doesn't mean the same thing as it does in America. Can someone help me with this? Can't find anything on the internet. Sounds like the ghetto.
an area containing a large number of houses or apartments built close together at the same time: on/in a housing estate They live on/in a housing estate.
In 2006 they found two mummified bodies in a bog that had manicured nails and 'hair gel' in their hair. They were from the iron age and lived over 2000 years ago. The dinosaurs died 65,000,000 years ago.
1:04:16 IIRC, Steve cracked up trying to say this and it took 3 tries, because his laughter made Ricky laugh before he even knew what Karl woke up and said. If I’m right, it’s too bad they left that bit out (probably for time) because it SLAYED me. Regardless, we still joke about this moment to this day. I’ve got some Karl-ish tendencies.
It annoys me because while most of what karl says is bollocks the google thing and the vr glasses are all plausible and not even strange at the time of recording. Hes basically saying that if you eventually get so interlinked with the internet are you really the same person. I mean imagine automatically feeding what someone is saying to you into ChstGPT and auto generating a response.
I actually watched movies based on his ideas ,yet he was slated, biggest slate they did was that they laughed at him about augmentation, VR glasses ha he's had those ideas 20 p,us years ago
"A worm won't be a good conversationalist cause they won't have much to say and can't think much" "the worm feels a rain drop on it head and thinks "what's going on?"
48:41 as usual, he’s right - this HAS happened. There are entire chunks of history where civilization was almost entirely erased. I believe one example is the library of Alexandria? What’s fascinating about Karl is that he thinks of these things without knowing it’s true.
