That's awesome. I have the same soil, and I've always wanted to do that. I'm trying to figure things out with my soil now, how and when and where and what to plant. So many factors and so much to learn. You don't pussyfoot around. haha

I thought/was told a lot of Terra Preta has shards of clay pots in it because it was pots of terracotta that the amazonians would use as toilets and add charcoal to keep it from smelling, until the terracotta pot was filled and then thrown into a landfill until decomposed and used as fertilizer which over years incorporated fungi and bacteria. I dont know where i got this from tho

This is really cool! I tried planting some things in very hard clay soil and im guessing water sat in the holes because the plants died :( I need to figure out drainage…

That happened with us in the beginning. We lost many trees and others were just wasting away. But now our trees are healthy and are growing very fast.

Does this help the tree fight disease?
@parqueyatay4547
@parqueyatay4547 Год назад
Yes - it does. We planted many trees according to the Ellen White Method and added charged biochar (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QTphhs7D2aA.html). Our trees are healthy and they are growing fast.

This isn't all how terra preta was made at all. It was basically a cess pit they also threw their food waste in, then covered it with wood ash and trash to cover the smell. Then wait a few hundred years and allow the microbes and earthworms to do their job, and bingo, "Terra Preta" They didn't purposely "make" the soil. It was just a byproduct of their waste. A few hundred years living in the same spot with no septic system will do that.

The easiest cheapest and most effective way to plant trees. Dig a hole the size of the root ball cover the hole and the root ball with a mycorrhizae inoculant specific for what type of tree your growing. Add 2 inch layer of compost twice a year. Let the microbes and fungi do their job because they will break down those layer of clay and the compost will provide the future humus that will create an aerated, fertile and well draining soil in the years to come.

True, though the factor that could make or break the success in this case is water. Too little or too much really hurt the process. Too much being difficult to control without something more radical like this.

Wood at the bottom might be ok but only a few pieces for sure. The tap root won't be nitrogen sensitive. The rest of the hole containing wood is a bad idea.
@parqueyatay4547
@parqueyatay4547 Год назад
Thank you for your input. It's a technique by Sepp Holzer, Permaculture in Austria. We have copied his idea. But our trees are thriving - the peach- apricot- and plumtrees are FULL of fruit.
@Watchingtheparadegoby
@Watchingtheparadegoby Год назад
@@parqueyatay4547 I hear ya. I actually like adding wood in some applications. I've gotten some poor results with -pH and Nitrogen lock with wood that wasn't ready though. Prunus and sap woods probably ok. I did enjoy the video. Well done and thought out. I'm planting some so I'll give it a whirl on a dozen trees or so.
