Nice vidéo. Twin capstan drive reduce wow and flutter but can stretch, tangle or skid the tape if the rotation is not even on both capstans especialy with Maxell UR type one tape. Original belts avoid this problem but they are not available anymore. I own the Denon DRM-700, it'is identical but single capstan drive, no CD direct input and no ceramic cassette stabiliser inside the cassette door. Of course, the performance is not as good as the 800 and wow and flutter is higher but still unnoticeable on pianos or violons. The playback of every tape, pre-recorded or not is amazingly clear and dynamic. On the recording side it's still very good but not exceptional; the unit missing calibration tones and level adjustments for Dolby. With Denon tapes, for example, the recordings are perfect without adjustments and the tape playback on monitor gives the same volume levels as the source and sometimes higher! The bias knob can help a lot and have great influence even with very small adjustments. Dolby C recordings are amazing clear with the help of anti saturation circuit. Great bass response on super ferric tapes like the famous TDK AR-X.
Thanks for this video. Very informative. It appears that all 5 CD chambers just share the same single laser lens in these multi CD players. Is that consistent for all multi CD players?
@pinkieswear6611 Hello and thanks for your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, all of the multi-cd players I have ever come across share 1 laser pickup. Thank you.
@@vintageav Great - to follow up and make sure I am understanding you: when I use one of those head cleaning disks (the ones that say at the end of the process, "your laser lens is now clean"), I only need to use it in exactly ONE of the cd trays of the player, correct? That single use in ONE of the 5 trays, in fact, cleans the laser lens for ALL 5 TRAYS, correct?
THE DISC TRAY IS NOT NUMBER SPECIFIC. It recalibrates itself when it is put back in the machine and powered on. I discovered this after i forgot to mark the tray, a good "whoops" i suppose
I don’t know why you put it on that cutting mat, but you inadvertently saved me a lot of trouble! I have the same TV (technically a later revision, no rear AV inputs, but the important part for our story is the same: the outer shell), which I use for retro gaming. I want to get a modern TV for my newer systems, but have limited space. The solution I came up with was to build sort of a crate that will rest on my existing TV stand with the tube TV inside of it, and the modern TV will rest on top of. I took measurements of everything, but somehow either neglected to measure the front to back dimension of the TV or just didn’t write it down. I didn’t catch this mistake until I’d already driven to the wood shop I’m using across town, a drive that is about half an hour at bare minimum. I started looking for information about the TV on my phone (luckily I remembered the brand and about when it was made), and stumbled upon this video. I couldn’t believe my dumb luck, that you’d placed it on top of something that had its dimensions written right on it! 🤣 So yeah, thanks a ton. You saved me at least an hour, and I managed to nearly finish it in one afternoon. 👍
I'm glad the video helped you out! When I started doing videos it was just by chance the cutting mat was underneath and just kept it that way ever since. Enjoy your creation and thank you for the comment!
What is the electronic device in 2:34. I think it is a tdt receiver wirh rca out, but i am not sure. Thanks for video, i would like to get one of these someday.
Hello. That is an RCA DTA809 ATSC Converter box to convert the digital tv signal from the antenna to an analog one for input to your TV. It has a tv antenna connection for input and another tv connection plus RCA video and audio (Both left and right for stereo) for outputs to your TV. There is a channel switch to select channel 3 or 4 for the antenna output connection and then you just tune your analog tv to that station.
I had the technics xm120 it was 120 watts per channel with the fan, it blew something? No longer have and cannot find another one , it pushed my Cerwin Vegas better than any other replacement receiver, it looks a lot like yours, any idea on finding another one , I like yours it has 120 per channel too
took this equipment to a repair shop, cost me $40 bucks just for an assessment, repairman said cannot fix it and parts no longer available due to discontinued model. Came home search youtube saw your video and ordered belts from amazon, cheap. followed your instructions and now it works like a charm. such a waste going to the repair shop. Thanks for doing this, very appreciative.
My unit was shot. Nothing would open or play. Opened it up, the rubber bands have no elasticity at all. Like they melted or something. Kind of a shitty design for the whole functionality of the unit to relay on some thin ass rubber bands.
@ringydwm I agree. The good news is that it's not hard to clean up all that sticky crap with some isopropyl alcohol and qtips and replace with new bands for low cost.
@vintageav I opened it right before bed last night. Will have to look into it when I have more time. My dad has the same unit so will be worth looking into for sure. Thanks for the video, will be coming back soon again to watch
Great instructions for belt replacement!! Did that with no problem. Gears got out of sync and can’t get unit to read for “TOC” or function correctly. Help!
Hello Robert. I think it's going to be difficult to troubleshoot this via the comment section. I didn't have this same issue either. The good news is that you can access the service manual for this unit which goes into great details about the disassembly process which may offer some insight into getting your gears back into sync. I did run into a similar issue on a different unit and in the end I just had to play around with moving the mechanism to various positions and reinstalling the belts to get everything back in sync. Here is the link to the website with the manual. Good luck to you. www.manualslib.com/manual/1139103/Sony-Rcd-W500c.html?page=18#manual
Very good you did remove the dust from the cell, this is the first thing good, and after this to clean the lens with izopropilic alcool. Also I always keep a cd permanent inside the drawer to avoid the dust. Great job.
I fired up my TruFlat today after a three year sleep, only to find that the Auto Program can only hold 35 digital channels. Maybe this was plenty of capacity in 2007, but most people, like myself, get over 80 when you include subchannels. Alas, I had to go back to the external converter box for the capacity I need.
Hi. Thank you for the demonstration. I actually just bought this unit at a Goodwill and I’m getting ready to replace the belts. I was noticing that it does not appear to read how many CDs are in it. I’ve seen changers before that scanned the carousel and let you know how many disc are in it and where they are. This one does not appear to do that. It’s from 2000. Maybe that was a feature that came later? Did your unit know how many slots in the tray contain disc?
Hello. When in cd mode and no disc is playing, press the Shuffle button on the remote repeatedly until the words "ALL DISCS SHUFFLE " appear on the left side of the display them press play.
If you have a switched outlet on the back of your receiver that is where you would plug this in. It will then be turned on and off automatically with the receiver power. Liked seeing the inside and back of the unit.
Hello. I'm not sure on the specific sizes. You can find them on Ebay by searching with the unit's model number and the word 'belts'. I see there are people selling them as a set. I also have bought bulk belts on Ebay that come with multiple sizes and just find the closest one to the existing. Easiest would be to buy the set that are made for your unit but it usually costs a little more going that route. Good luck!
This is the sweet spot of the EX line. Its fully weight in stereo at 120 watts. 10 to 70 khz. You have to go up to the TX1000 or TX50 before you get 120 watt 2 channel. I have one of these myself. Clean flat sound. Nice unit.
Hello. Sorry I don't have a link but any hardware store will have general use replacement plugs like this. The one I used was an old one I found in my father's work room so I don't have the package any longer. Good luck and thanks for the interest.
Hi, I'm Having Klipsch R-12SW Subwoofer. the issue is there is no output. I had tested the Speaker its good. then checked power is good. I keep it auto mode, and when signal pass it turns LED light on. can you help me out to resolve this issue. where and what other component to check there are many surface mount Cap and resistors. also there are no any over heating sign.
