I hate metrics! you take the number and devide by 2 and you get the MPH! The Brits and others get their rocks off over metric numerations...1760 yards is a mile and 1000 meters is a half mile give or take a yard or two! What's next metric time? How long is a metric Dog Day??
99% of Cars in Briain are sill using MPH (1760yds) because they all have Speedo's marked in MPH - all the road signs are in Miles too ....... what they do in Europe is their business - Napoleon Bonapart invented Metric measurements after the revolution when he became Emperor (yeah that's Revolution !) to foist on all the countries he Conquered instead of Leagues and Miles, which is probably why the English at the time didn't take it on board. I think you'll also find that the USA uses Miles because the first imigrants to the North American Continent were using Miles as the standard measure of distance and it stuck. I hope I never see Kilometres in use in the UK, and every Soldier and Sailor from Circa 1500AD would be spinning in their graves to see it too.
