Saw these guys many times in the late 80s. They were unbelievable!, totally ahead of their time. Gutted to hear about Ollie Olsen. He was a genuine original
The Jesus Lizard - The Jesus Lizard (1997) [Full EP] 1014am 17.10.24 they sound(ed) bored, here. as they do with the new album released lately - it's 2024 for fook's sake... is it sacrilege to suggest so? probably...but there you go. less the passion...less any desire to write a song... so it seems. i mean, i could be wrong..... or maybe the growing number of fans diminishes any umph or value it maybe has - live speaking... well done, though. highly enjoyable live and highly recommended.
I have entirely the same sentiment and regard for the Venn diagram that is the various stages of this phenomenal group of musicians. I'm happy there is new music and they are still ferocious as a live entity but their studio work post Mac's initial leave seems feckless and uninspired at times.
I heard this album for the first time about two years ago (thanks to Bandsplaining and a quick internet search) and immediately downloaded each track. I’m a vinyl record collector and psychedelic rock/music (old and new) is my #1 musical genre/sub-genre. I just placed an order directly from China for the LP. It wasn’t cheap but I, after putting it off for two years (not the first album I’ve done this for a record - I’m cheap), took out the credit card and placed an order. This’ll certainly be one of the more obscure psych records in my collection. Their follow-up album “Family” (as Canned Dream) has a lot of great moments including jazz tracks but I don’t go back to that one the way I do with this one. Plus, Family is also only available on CD/digital. I also like the Chinese band Backspace (they remind me of the old German band Neu) but their records are very pricey as of 10-13-24
