Just an FYI ACTUAL FOOTAGE exists of the battle shot by the Prinz Eugen. It doesn't really show HMS Hood being destroyed but seeing the giant shell splashes is truly awe inspiring.
My Grandfather was in the Royal Navy on board a submarine, HMS Trident, when this happened, 1941. The Trident encountered the heavy cruiser which accompanied Bismarck on this day, Prinz Eugen, just 9 months after this battle. The following is on Wikipedia. “Perhaps HMS Trident’s most important targets were the German heavy cruisers, Prinz Eugen and Admiral Scheer, which she sighted off Norway on 23 February 1942. Trident fired seven torpedoes against them, one of which hit Prinz Eugen in the stern, jamming her rudder and damaged her engines, the Admiral Scheer escaped unscathed, Prinz Eugen limped back to port of France.”
Yes Trident's strike on Prinz Eugen in Feb 1942 put her out of action for eight months. She originally returned to Trondheim in Norway, before returning to Kiel in Germany a month later for repairs which saw her out of service until Oct 1942. Trident's torpedo hit on Prinz Eugen once again highlighted the poor design of the stern of the major German warships.
Everything you heard about directing is wrong. You don't need to be passionate about filmmaking. Just be as bored as this guy and you'll get the job lol
IF any "scuttling" actually took place then all that was scuttled was a 51000 ton mountain of sinking, flaming scrap metal. All guns silenced, her superstructure devastated, her main armour belt broken and penetrated in several places, her command staff physically obliterated, internally aflame from end to end, her stern and port gunwales already underwater, a thousand of her crew dead, and further hundreds of her crew already in the water behind her.... All that any scuttling did was to sink her a few minutes earlier than was already happening. In the world of boxing the crew's scuttling efforts are what is known as "throwing in the towel", submission of a boxer AFTER he has been punched senseless by a more skillful & powerful opponent, and only a deluded child would say, "the victor didn't win because his opponent killed himself before he lost.", when the truth is the loser had his arse ripped off by the victor and handed back to him on a plate. Imagine the ignominy of being forced to commit suicide by your opponent?
The big daddy of all cinematic bad guys right here I can only imagine the audience reaction to his face reveal after two movies of only seeing his hands
@@walterkronkitesleftshoe6684 My original post stated that the IJN Yamato had 18" guns - no date was mentioned. Your response was pedantic and not necessary.
@@Mk1Male Yes the lack of chronology in your orignal post was its weak point... Such a pity you're so inadequate that a friendly addendum causes you so much heartache.
Et dire qu'il y a encore des gens pour véhiculer l'idée que le Bismarck a été coulé par les cuirassés anglais ! Réveillez vous ! On a retrouvé l'épave, il n'y a aucun dégât sur les superstructures.
Prince of Wales was hit four times by Bismarck. One shell hit below the waterline and penetrated a fuel tank. Like the shell that hit the bridge, it didn't explode which was fortunate, and was found and removed after the ship was dry-docked. They had to cut a hole in the bottom of the hull to get the shell out.
