You just scored another subscriber. Welcome to Newcastle. Both my parents were born and raised here too. At the of my street is Blackbutt Reserve. There are snakes in there, I have seen them. Do I get any in my yard ? NO! I will be seventy two in a few weeks. I have never been bitten by a snake or a spider. Newcastle is a great place. It is big enough that you can get most things off the shelf. If you can't it is only over night from Sydney. I keep hoping to hear an announcement that the light rail is going to be expanded but I am not going to hold my breath. Public Transport here is a disgrace. Othe than that Newcastle is great!
Dear Ashley, Thank you for the nice things you said about Australia! You're most welcome here! We're both lucky to have such great countries and I'd love to see more American's being able to have the Aussie experience as well.l Some Americans may also know/recall some other famous Australians you didn't mention such as, Olivia Newton John, Air Supply, Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchet, Russel Crow, John Farnham, Rose Byrne, Errol Flynn, Mel Gibson, Toni Collette, Naomi Watts, Crowded House, Johhny O'Keefe, The Seekers, Iggy Azalea, Gotye etc...etc...
AFL. Australian Football League. Australian Football. Australian Rules Football .. more prevalent in the southern states Our spiders, snakes, bugs ONLY bother scaredy-cat Americans & English. The rest of us hardly notice them. We use this (overblown , exaggerated) hysteria to frighten off overly timid unintelligent perks from overseas.
Much of the USA have hot climates. Surely you don't waste electricity on dryers. In Arizona & southern California. Why?? WiFi now is much better. At least Adequate if not lightning fast like Singapore/ South Korea.
HUGE Difference....this is coming from someone who has lived in USA for 28 years, Australia for 23. DRIVING. Australians are pretty rubbish at it. With little awareness on the road, they are clueless. The best is, when at a turning lane, they get a green arrow and drift on through the intersection, like they have no purpose. This let's you get caught at lights for sometimes 3 or 4 cycles, even though you are only 7 cars deep. Pathetic.
The driving is not safer in Australia. I am an American living here in OZ for 20 years. The roads outside of all capitol cities are falling apart, and Australians are horrid drivers. They don't have very good awareness, tailgating runs rampant and they generally have no idea what they are doing. The city drivers are much more competent. If you go regional you are asking for trouble.
To put internet speed in context, for mobile: Australia is 31/148 countries (av=89.66 Mbps) for mobile, US is 6/148 (av=192.26 Mbps), Cuba is last, 148/148 (av=4.01 Mbps). . For fixed broadband: Cuba is still 148/148 (2.92), Australia is 94/148 (60.16) and US is 5/148 (254.01). The US climbed significantly after 2020 due to the upgrade of the country's internet with the Biden Infrastructure Bill injection of USD 65billion. Those are averages and there will be places in Oz where the speed is faster than in the US: Vermont, for example, is the slowest US state with av=42.29 Mbps.
Regarding ordering in American establishments, I would say it depends a lot on what region of the country you find yourself. I travel extensively throughout the U.S. I'd say that people who are from the Midwest and the South are generally more polite and well mannered than the rest of the country. Of course, there are always exceptions. By the way, I have visited Down Under!! P.S. Don't forget to mind your manners!!
Malcolm Turnbull was the minister at the time of the NBN,He seemed to think he was the man to fix the internet. The truth is as it turned out he was an Idiot, I suppose it was a political decision, because in hindsight labours idea was way better. The liberals lied to the people saying, they will do it better and cheaper. The final result a lot dearer and as we know it’s rubbish, also it made us the joke of the internet world. Congratulations Turnbull you idiot.
The conversational aspect of ordering is not expected to be long, especially as there may be a long line of people behind you. So often is it as simple as an acknowledgement that they exist. eg: "Giday mate, could I have a Chicken snitty sanga & chips with heaps of chicken salt?"
Lololol on your video.. I loved it.. loved you talking about the manners. The knife and Falk was hilarious and towards the end of your video I could hear a crow squawking. It's was a wonderful comparison but you forgot to mention the Aussie rules football. Thank you again. Will try and watch all of your videos. Your so funny and keep up your great work.. take care and oooh, welcome to 🇦🇺
There is no one who lives in Australia who hasn't had a huntsman sitting on the wall trying to catch flys if you leave him alone and he will be on his way after he's had a feed he's harmless
I lived in Australia in 1970 came over with my family when I was 16 and stayed 10 years. I love Australia. I love having cups of tea with friends, the food, the beaches, double decker busses. I hiked all over and never saw a snake or spider but there was a snake in my moms bathroom (poisonous one) at Whale Beach on Bynya Road and I had a funnel web in my bathroom one time. Other than that no bugs. (flies of course). Swam everyday even in the winter. Coming from San Francisco beaches are cold. I was lucky I have never been stung by a jellyfish. For the amount of people who live in Oz the shark attacks are really not that many. They have fantastic surf clubs and good looking life savers, sky planes, nets and shark alarms. I lived mainly between Palm Beach and Manly and shared a flat in Seaforth. I love the brick homes. I miss fish and chips on the beach and shopping with my basket to the butchers, fruit market and bakery. It was very personal and charming. I hope to come back some day. My mom was born there and lived on a Cattle Station then moved to Sydney when she got older. I love Sydney just like I love San Francisco. They call them sister cities.
🕷 spiders actually catch and eat other insects, so they're kinda doin' us a favour. Our polymer money is the safest in the world 🌎 ( Aussie invented of course).
G'day Ashley! As a Sydneysider myself, congratulations on your citizenship! How has life as an Australian been treating you? If you like village areas in Sydney, check out Lane Cove. There are nice restaurants and eateries to try there.
Check out MATE as it has a thousand meanings... MATE is all about HOW you say it It can mean everything from expressing a great friend to congratulation to I'm gonna punch your lights out..... LOL. I quickly learnt not to say it to strangers while in the US - even using it in a comment with some ppl on YT, has got me attacked lol...
Xmas growing up..... my parents would bring out the plastic pools and we would sit in them and have our family breaky (breakfast). Then have a food coma nap lazing in the wading pools... Then grab all the huge amounts of leftovers and head over to the extended family for the night time meal (dinner). My parents (silician born), and so was I ~ by accident coz they went back to visit family and Mum didn't know she was pregnant lol, so when they were suppose to head back to AU, she was nearly full term and the cruise line would not let her travel... hence I was what Dad called "His accidental Bambino"... my point is though ~ when I say "leftovers" I mean a hella lot of leftovers!! 🤣😁😂
Customer service... yes, when I travelled a bit back in '95... I felt really overwhelmed in the US with how the staff 'seemed' to be crazy attentive... UNTIL I asked someone 'WTH?' Once I realized their wages were heavily tipped based I completely understood and remembered to make sure I tipped my servers, hotel staff etc....
10k Race..... did you know watermelon is great to cool muscles and will rehydrate you faster then water at the end of big physical activity. Before I ended up in a wheelchair, I was a clean and jerk power lifter (again several decades ago) and our trainer always had us eat chilled watermelon after a big training session. I always found a massive difference in how much less my muscles ached the next day!! Oh and watermelon makes amazing slush puppies!!
