Space Camp® launched in 1982 to inspire and motivate young people from around the country to join the ranks of space pioneers who persevere to push the boundaries of human exploration.
The Space Camp Alumni Association (SCAA) represents all Space Camp®, Aviation Challenge® and Robotics Camp STEM education program alumni. The SCAA serves to harness the knowledge, abilities, and resources of camp program trainee and staff alumni for the advancement of programs, projects, and initiatives benefiting Space Camp, Aviation Challenge, and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center as a whole, while also inspiring both current and future alumni to action.

I miss space camp I went to every single one my first one was Quebec. My fav was the mat and the space craft mission where we simulated real missions with ground control and all and it had the huge arm we got to use to fix a satellite and I was the commaowhere I flew the shuttle from take off to landing and directed the whole mission aboard the space Craft
I humbly submit: Space Academy, Huntsville, 1996 alum - Indie computer game developer, freelance programer, graduate in archaeology specializing in archaeometry. Space Academy taught me many lessons, inadvertently. Perhaps 1996 was not the best year, or I got a maintenance week. All the activities were there and fun, for sure - but I got stuck in a group that seemed like... the low track. "Magellan." These kids did *not* want to be there. Their parents were on vacation and they got shipped off. I remember during the mission control simulations, I was Flight Director, the kid next to me had his headset over his eye and kept saying 'I AM LOCUTUS OF BORG' when I tried to move the mission along. Our shuttle burned up. We also never completed our Mars Habitat Dome project and I felt quite humiliated in front of Dr. Georg von Tiesenhausen. I also remembered the only time I was bullied by a Star Trek nerd for being a Star Trek nerd (only at Space Camp!). The physically large bully kid also kept popping our counselor's bra clasp... which I can't believe she put up with. I also remember at least one whole day where we just sat and watched the Aviation Challenge kids plunge into the water. I am just not sure if I had fun or not. I was going to go to Academy II the following year, but my grandpa, who paid for it, passed away. It probably wouldn't have helped me. I became a deviant kid and was bad at math and fell off the STEM track (which was not really a thing in late 90s midwest ruralia anyway)... but you know what? After 12 years of soul searching, I went back to school, studied archaeology, won two awards, graduated in 3 years with 2 degrees... then left the field and taught myself programming to pursue ... any dream I choose. Inspirational story? I don't know. It's just what this video made me feel like sharing.
It just occured to me - maybe we spent the day at Aviation Challenge because the counselor *did not* put up with that and there was no sub. Good for her if so. Can't remember her name, but she's in the picture with us at the end. Edit - Also, I wore my free Space Academy shirts until they literally disintegrated around me about 5 years ago, and my Space Academy wings were a prop in an independent film.
In a pure dogfight with a great pilot the Mig 21 was deadly. Better training and tactics could turn the tide in the F-4's favor, and often did. Also the F-4 was deadlier with longer range engagements. The Constant Peg program showed U.S. pilots how to fight the Migs smartly.
During my time at space camp this year I love the multi access trainer. Something funny about it was the group leader had to help me get my feet inside I forgot what you call it. But I would love to come back next year!
@@murph4364 simulated space shuttle missions, training simulators, rocket building and launches, scientific experiments, and lectures of past, present, and future of space exploration. you'll be put into teams so take the chance to be friends with everyone on your team. make a groupchat to keep in touch with them afterwards. you and your team will compete against other teams to see which team has the most knowledge near the end of camp so prepare for that. hope this helps :)
Where I come from we don’t wear panties on our face because I come from a place where we actually study science unlike Stupid NASA if your breath is that nasty go brush your teeth or something!
I went to space camp when I was like 12. Now I'm 40. I flew from Washington state to Alabama. I was told I was too tall to be an astronaut. I was probably 5'9". Now 6'3". The entire experience was a complete disappointment. The camp counselors were shit. Complete waste of time.
hey i desire to join the space camp this year, is there any way I can contact u so that I can learn more about how to get selected?Preferrably on Instagram or G-mail?
Space Academy is for ages 12 through 14, and the underwater Astronaut Training is a part of the Advanced Space Academy program, which is for ages 15 through 18. You could attend Space Academy at age 14, and then return for the Advanced Space Academy program after you turn 15! That's what I did (person in this video)!
@@SpaceCampAlumni Thank you for your reply. I last saw the Florida camp in November 2010 and now Google Earth street view shows an empty site, so I guess the change was after then - I live overseas. I suppose Shuttle Inspiration was re-located?
