Golf Smart Academy teaches golf instruction that is backed by science. The information you'll find on this channel and on golfsmartacademy.com is sound golf instruction and not just for "entertainment value" like many of the other sites out there that employ golf personalities.
Tyler Ferrell, founder of Golf Smart Academy, has personally studied the body and collected 3D data on players of all abilities. He has organized his findings into simple instruction videos that teach the key movements of the golf swing as well as how the movements relate.
Here at Golf Smart Academy we'll always give you the "How" and "Why" of our teachings and you can trust that the answer is backed by scientific data.
We are here to help you get the most out of this great game. Happy golfing!
Any particular feel you suggest for aggressive wipe? I usually try to move my left elbow going towards the target hard, but curious to try other feels as well.
I think you're right. I'd actually argue that the "supination" you're referring to, if done correctly, will shallow the club all it needs to shallow WITHOUT disturbing the on-plane motion. What does a "hold off release" mean to you?
I would contend that "body lag" or in TGM terms "pivot lag" is the primary lag to consider. I agree with you. The cocking and uncocking of the left wrist should not be the primary focus. This is what we see in tour players. You'll see some, such as in JB's case, or a ton, or at least the appearance of a ton of lag, with Sergio or Ricky. They all pivot lag. Great video man.
Yes it is confusing I agree. Some instructors want you to fire the arms early and some like this one want the arms passive. Tiger did say stop watching RU-vid! Maybe he was right.
@@1snajhe’s trying to say if you want to have more shaft lean/de loft then you need to feel the head turn over more at impact. This is actually what I’m working on now and a lot of my shots were coming out right
Too technical for RU-vid. Too long for an online lesson. And you can’t see what the viewers are doing with their swing while they execute your directions.
Jezz, just go to the range, point the swing like to the right, groove the feel of hitting straight right then incrementally close the face in the grip, aim inside on the ball and you’ll see the ball curve back to the left ).
Hmmm… near the end, I think you hit on something I’ve been thinking but just couldn’t confirm. I never thought of an arm dominant or body dominant swing, but it makes sense. I’m definitely more arm dominant; coming over the top and slicing. I incorporated two thoughts; straighter arms and that “motorcycle” move. For some reason, I believe bowing the left wrist makes me shallow the club more and my swing plane feels like I’m coming from 4:00 to 10:00… if that makes sense
Interesting topic. Man, Jack's swing is beautifully savage. He just ripped at the ball. From what I can see, Jack releases half way down. As you mentioned, is this what Jack means by the top?....or does he indeed mean the literal top? Nonetheless, I love Jack's swing.
There is zero to improve. His name is on a US Open trophy plus $61mil in winnings. He is spot on at impact which is all that matters in the golf swing. Jim simply sets up with impact in mind. In many ways the best swing on tour from that position. Only a fool would touch this swing. Jim was smart enough to NEVER let anyone but his father work on his swing.
Are there any tips you have when let’s say, you’re forced to play tired/exhausted? Is there anything I can focus in order ensure a decent finish to the round, keeping things from getting out of control? (Obviously this is not ideal but, just as a hypothetical.. what can I do differently when faced with fatigue)
This is why I feel you should not practice impact position. Rather, like the overhead view shown one should see the hands and handle blur past the ball, and for me never actually see the club head make contact with the ball. If I try to see contact I will end up straightening my right arm too soon.
Little off subject but I would like to get your advice about ulnar deviation with the right wrist. At what point in the down swing does the right wrist release into ulnar ? Thanks
Think this is something I need to work on. I don't feel any bracing with my lower body. I've been working on clearing my left hip but really don't feel bracing or extension of the arms. thanks for the video.
Recently I bought a new driver. A TM Stealth 2. I had always an open clubface at the ball and I changed all the adjustments you can make with the shaft position. And I tried really everything from grip to positions in my swing to get the ballflight straight. With no success. And today, on the range, I remembered a quote from somebody on the internet that you cannot release the club too early. So instead of trying to roll my hands thru the impact zone to close the clubface in time or slow down my lower body with no positive effect, I rolled/released my hands as early as possible in the downswing. This is most probably just a feel but it works. From a push/push-slice to a very long and powerful and perfectly straight ballflight because of Jack's advice. Thank you Jack! My feel hitting those terrible high pushes was always that my hips are too fast opening and the arms are left behind but this was also not true. Now I can turn as fast as I want because I release as soon as possible.
You need to explore face orientation much more . Such factors as 1 . Grip strength 2. Forearm pronation / supination 3. Wrist extension / flexion 4. Rib cage rotation are all factors in the orientation of the clubface at various stages of the swing .
