Actually the best gaming headphones do exist and are are widely considered to be the Audeze maxwells although I don’t even have those. Also the ps5 pulse elite are considered to be one of the best choices for mid tier budget gaming headphones.

Never fell in with streaming, always did local storage. Not an audiophile since I use a 16GB SanDisk Clip Sport+ (oddly enough paired with Audio Technica M50X cans). I've long known of the pitfalls of relying on streaming, and that issue of licensing snafus (or hobbyist musicians that just flake out for "reasons" ) making stuff go _Poof_ . That's why I buy mp3's from Bandcamp (mostly) or Amazon and keep local copies on the SanDisk (plus backups on 3 external drives). Currently have a bit more than 1300 tracks on it -- a modest collection that gets played on shuffle so I can go weeks of daily listening before I hear all the new songs I've added in any one purchase (the most at any one time is around 35) I'm also familiar with the oddity of players being picky with album art. I've since found my Clip Sport will reliably* display embedded album art if it's 400x400 or less. Most album art is 500x500, and I've seen some with 600x600 or more from some outlets. *a quirk peculiar to this player is if you wake the screen as its playing, it will only show a placeholder image. But if the track changes / is changed while the screen is lit, the album art will show. My oddball processing routine with new purchases goes like this: --reverse artist+title in filename --run through volume leveling with MP3Gain --extract album art with MP3Tag -- re-size resulting JPG in an image editor then... --re-embed both resized and original album art in the mp3 file <again with MP3Tag> --Archive volume-leveled MP3's (and extracted album art) on external drives, then add same to the Clip From time to time I look at reviews of various DAP's as an upgrade (how I ran across your vid), but I've become spoiled by the Clip Sport's...well "clip". As in, clipped to my shirt collar when out and about during that part of the year when it's too warm for a hoodie or jacket. No DAP I've seen to date has any means of attaching the player (obviously, the smaller ones) to one's shirt or belt. All of them need to be pocketed, where they'll compete for space with either one's wallet, or keys & coins (i.e. "scratch-up city"). Jeez, that's a lot of text. Good thing I use paragraphs.

I love them, they are kind of expensive but yes, if you are using a USB-C cable and connect them to a laptop and play FLAC files, it's definitely a better quality rather than connecting them to the phone and playing RU-vid sounds, RU-vid also limits the sound quality right? : )

Nice, I've got HEAVYS about 2 weeks ago, and they are amazing. Nice noise isolation 4 drivers in each ear, plus twitters. they are also not leaking sound as ATH-AD900X, and they are big : ) but I'm happy, they are not cheap, I do have a discount code if anyone is interested. But man I love them, I was a bit sceptical but they are really nice when it comes to the over-ear big headstones. :) Would be nice to hear your opinion if you have access to them. I do love how they sound while listening to Metal music, but Opera, EDM, DNB, it all sounds really amazing.

Guys, the purpose of Gaming headphones are to be a multi tool. It provides good sound quality, a microphone built in, do not need an external audio interface, some are WIRELESS which provide more comfort to be able to listen to music or the game while you have to step away for a second. They are not for having the BEST Audio because if they were they would just copy studio headphones. Even then there are some gaming headphones that sound just as good as some studio headphones they just need some EQ of your liking.

My experiences PC38x: the sound is fantastic. I use DTS and i love it. Lacks bass, but its fine. The sound quality is great. Honestly all you need in sound. Comfort is were is gets shaky. Its comfortable, but the clamp is strong. I get an hour and a half to 2 hours before im ready for a break. Especially with glasses. The sound is fantastic, though. Maxwell: its a little complicated. I love the sound, but if it's bass boosted at near max volume it will start to make cracking sounds. I told audeze (solid customer service, btw) and they linked me a frequency test to stress test it. I maxed the volume and got to about 60khz and it turned into a torture device. The shrieking sound was so bad I literally threw it off my head. Outside of that, the sound is fantastic. The battery lasts forever and charges quickly. The range is ridiculously long before it cuts out. The stock pads are great, but the do get toasty after awhile. The wicked cushions fix that and are ever bit if not more comfortable. However, they do add noticeable weight to an already heavy headphone. The weight doesn't bother me. I can wear them for hours no problem, but i could understand having problems if you're sensitive to that. Anyway, this has been my review no one asked for.

The best headphones are good headphones, period. Just buy a good desktop microphone on the side (most people will get USB, but XLR mics through an interface sound THE BEST). My first moment of enlightenment was playing Black Ops 4 Zombies through a pair of Grado 80X - the soundstage and imaging made it so I could hear the zombies all around me and pinpoint where they where. It was amazing. Currently I am on Grado 325x, which is just an incredible workhorse through both my desktop amp (iFi Zen Can 2) and my portable dac/amp (Dragonfly Cobalt). I would need to spend a ton of money to get anything better than this.

Oh man Grados. I absolutely love the way Grados sound. I own the sr-325-X myself and it's easily one of the best sounding headphones in my collection. But I CANNOT use them for gaming because they're also the least comfortable headphones I have ever tried. I'm impressed you can wear Grados for long gaming sessions 👌

I use a pair of Truthear Hexa's for stage production cues / tracks as well as workout buds. They are very very good when you get them sealed properly in your ear. For headphones at home I recently upgraded and picked up a pair of ATH-R70x's. These certainly aren't super budget but I'd consider them a little better that the HD600 series lineup for music because of the less rolled off bass which gives them more versatility, and waaay better in gaming for the soundstage. They're also incredibly lightweight for long listening sessions. I agree though that on a tight budget HD 6xx's are great value. I don't believe the amp you use matters much, as long as you're getting the right power delivery to drive your devices then you're fine. If you're buying an amp to specifically color the sound a certain way it's better to use EQ. An amplifier is supposed to be flat, and virtually every amp these days delivers power clean enough that no human could possibly perceive a difference no matter what they try to tell you. A tube amp on the other hand is cool if you're specifically looking for that "old-school" flavor of sound, but I'd rather have tubes be used in a mixing / mastering process rather than applied over everything you're listening to. Navigating the audiophile hobby is very difficult these days. There's a lot of snake-oil and an even greater amount of placebo that people swear by as fact ("I swear you gotta use this $6000 amp for your headphones bro or they won't sound good"). My advice is that consistency is key. If you like or dislike a pair of headphones / IEM's see how they measure and compare that measurement with others that were measured on the same equipment to get a feel for the tuning you like. Staging and imaging is something you'll need to hear yourself or find a reviewer you trust on how something performs in those areas.

The BTR15 (the newer revision of the BTR5) is great too! The software is a bit janky but it does the job. Fiio is also making a BTR13 as well, the successor to the BTR3, for those who don't need as much power! Also for Android users, Wavelet/Poweramp EQ is nice for system wide EQ.
