Actually a little bit chocked that they don't mention either Mats Näslund, Hakan Loob(Håkan) Still only swede to score 50 goals in a season. His story should be told more often. From the small town of Karlstad in the middle of sweden he got drafted by Calgary in 1987 i think and 1988-89 was his first season. 50 goals later THE FUCKING CALGARY FLAMES WON LORD STANLEY. So Håkan decided to go back home and retired from the NHL. He is one of few (with Mats Näslund, Nick Lidström to name a few that has won Canada Cup, Gold in Olympics and won the world championships), BORJE SALMING (with and Ö instead of O) KING HANK to name a few.
Lol. Anyone who thinks this is real obviously hasn't watched the all star competition where it takes them like 10 tries to hit 4 volleyball sized targets.
Mario wasn’t protected like 99 was. He was hacked at, he had to drop gloves way too often and he played on a bad pens team early in his career. All that and cancer and back problems and he still retired initially as only player in league history with a 2 points per game avg. 2.02. Mario is the greatest player in history of the game. let’s go pens.
Mario Lemieux....Dragging 3 players with him scoring a goal one handed. I am from Pittsburgh. When I would see Mario out in public, I would always be humbeled about how big he was.
I will never forget watching the 1969 Quarter Finals between Boston and Toronto when Quinn hit Orr (0:42). There was a near riot in the Boston Garden. Some fans near the glass were being elevated high enough by others so they could strike punches to any Leafs along the boards. I remember the Leafs would go on to lose this game 10-0 and the next night 7-0 and then returned home to lose the final two games and the series 4-0. After game 4, owner Stafford Smythe went right into the Leaf dressing room and fired then-coach Punch Imlach on the spot

In hockey, I tried to mold my playing style like him. The first player I ever seen. I even had a Mario Lemieux coin that was dated for 1991. The year I was born. Sadly I lost that coin. #66
Mario and many others here had killed NHL today. Don't forget that they played with inferior equipments and wood sticks! Also the 70's to 90's were a ruthless time with a lot of slashing, hooking, roughing, fighting, interferences, murderous hits by +100kg players etc... A current NHL referee had cancelled every games in the 70's to 90's after just some minutes. NHL today is like from.a different universe.
I remember watching the bruins and rangers in a playoff game. Rangers had a power play, Orr had the puck the whole 2 minutes, skated around the rink. Best player I ever watched
Fedorov and Datsyuk were better than pretty much every player on this list in terms of pure overall skill. We're talking skills, not individual stats. Also, where the heck is Peter Forsberg, possibly the best skater in history? A better list , rating actual skills, not selfish play and stat padding and bringing it up to date. 10. Connor McDavid--an immense talent. 9. Sidney Crosby --If you were to design a human to play hockey it would likely resemble this guy 8. Wayne Gretzky--watch him play and you wonder how he scored a single goal, never mind nearly 900. His main skills were intelligence and vision. Crazy to think a whole year of stats don't count (WHA) and he was never the same after the shattered disc. Might have scored 3000 points otherwise. 7. Valeri Kharlamov--a whirlwind of hockey talent and skill 6. Jaromir Jagr--probably overall more skilled than Mario 5. Pavel Datsyuk --a prime example of the ultimate russian player. Skill set off the charts but shockingly low offensive totals. Then you look at his defensive stats and you see the hidden story. 4. Sergei Fedorov--did everything better than everyone else did anything. 3. Peter Forsberg--so much skill it was scary 2. Mario Lemieux--a terrible defensive player and not the best skater on the list but what a pair of hands. Probably should rank lower in terms of skill but I'm giving him points for enduring cancer while still playing hockey. 1. Bobby Orr--a generational talent unlike anything the NHL had seen Who the greatest player was is another question. Orr would remain 1 or 2 but Gretzky would, of course, rank up there too. And the likes of Fedorov and Datsyuk probably wouldnt make the list.
Pavel Bure and Datsjuk top 5. No guestion by that. And Vovaljev on top 3.nr 1 mario2 gretsky. Datsjuk.4 pavel bure.5 kovaljev.6 Larionov.6 kamenskyj. 7 mark messier.8 makorov.9 krutov. There a lotaø s off others like kenta Nilson(may krutov abd,Nilson R.I.P)forsberg and lits off canadians. Sorry Guys an ladies but I am an russian fan. But the best I love ❤NHL.but they are my Favorite by the fans. Look at 20-Junior hockey VM. Canadians plays for rhe Nations "blood in and blood out. Its right that they get good hockey player❤😮😅❤❤
Where the hell is Guy Lafleur? Game after game in the mid-to-late 70s I watched him skate through entire teams and score. He's not number 1, but he's definitely in the top 10 of all time. Peter Forsberg also deserves to be up there. Those two were fantastic. And does anyone remember Valeri Kharlamov? If you're old like me and remember the 1972 Canada vs USSR hockey series, you marveled at the pure skills of Kharlamov. He blew everyone's mind at the time. Other notables in my book would be Jean Beliveau, Peter Mahovlich, Dave Keon, Henry Richard and Ray Bourque.
Without a doubt Mario is the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a set of skates I am grateful and thankful to have had the privilege to live in Pittsburgh and watch this man play Unbelievable.
Gilbert Perreault a legend and a legacy that set the foundation for what became known as the "skilled forward." The skilled defenceman Bobby Orr did the same thing revolutionized the offensive defencemen.
