I wish my grandfather didn’t wreck his 96 f150 that had the 300 in it with a 5 speed manual and it only had 84k original miles on it that truck was just about 20 years old and was just being broken into sadly he totaled it after falling asleep behind the wheel I like to think someone ended up getting ahold of that motor if it survived the crash they got themselves a great motor it didn’t even have any leaks yet.
Some of this is correct but he’s making this job harder that it needs to be. You never go more than two wide on the same seam and never leave a one foot board. Going under the trailer and marking your holes is crazy.
Great video on the legend! I pull the same load with my 69 f-100. It has a 300 6cyl, C6 auto.,power steer, no AC. I have to climb a very steep hill, but no problem. The trip is about 60 miles long. Ive owned this truck for almost 44 years, one owner, no rust, never been wrecked. I paid $1,200 in 81. I have never regreted it, as l pass up loaded pickups along the road either broken or overheated. Some are newer trucks too. Im amazed at what the 300 can haul and pull. In 1986 it pulled a 16 ft. car hauler with a Jaguar on it to deliver in Arizona. Had absolutly no issues the entire trip. The truck has well over 500k miles but l couldnt prove it. On the loaded delivery trips l never go over 60 mph cause it doesnt have disc brakes, but it can go faster. The trailer does alot of the braking, dual axles with electric brakes. Also l replaced factory radiator with a special ordered Champion aluminum one. The engine runs alot cooler, doesnt even get to the quarter point. The radiator wasnt cheap but its done a great job. I do all the maintenance on truck myself. Very simple to work on.
Man I love the 300 there so strong even when there worn down I just picked one up little short box 4/4 five speed manual transmission I could put it in low lock first gear crawling 😊😊
I once put 6k pounds of bricks in the bed of my 68 f100 with a 240 inline 6. Many times I'd haul 3k pounds of soil. with 3.70 gears and 31" tires I'd really have to smoke the clutch to get moving. The axle would rest on the bump-stops at 2k pounds
It tickles me when people are so impressed with common deisel and i6 vehicles. Dont get me wrong, i love them too... but people were moving CRAZY loads with trucks in the 20s, 30s, 40s, etc. Vehicles have become more fuel efficient and lower maintenance, but people were accimplishing insane feats, even with coal and steam
Piece of cake, 89 F250, 300k miles, gooseneck trailer 2001, 26.5k pounds over the scales, coast to coast on I80, would only do 52 with the ac off and 51 with the ac on (flats) but uphill it was a little slower, 100% power for a week running long days. never missed a beat. My only historical issues are tearing/crushing the fluid filled motor mounts so I have installed a chain on each side down to the engine cradle to limit movement, problem solved.
I really lost interest in Ford trucks after they stopped building that engine. although I drive a newer diesel F250, my old trucks, all with the 300 six were far better trucks overall. My 6.0 makes more power and accelerates faster and gets better mileage but that 300 I6 F250 also didn't cost me $55k new. You can buy a lot of gas for $55k. Or the $99k they want for a new one now. I really wish I had my old '92 back or that they would have still offered that motor back in '03.
I've had a few trucks with the 300 six, the biggest problem I've had with them is they don't like their head gaskets if you like to push the RPM. Tough as hell, just they don't like high RPMs. Debating on building one for a turbo, seeing as I have three of them lying around
My dad hauls his 35k pound travel trailer with his 1995 f150. It barely does it and can barely stop but it does a good job for what it is, a tractor engine
I have had several and a few with 300,000 miles + on them. They are great engines and do really good at farm work. They just don’t have what it takes for hauling at highway speeds.
Well I know this is an older video but good video I enjoy it I got a straight six in my 88 GMC 2500 I love it but then you hear what year is that Ford pickup you got thanks brother
