Hi, I am David Backholer and I am a real estate broker based in the Portland metro area. I have personally gone through several international and domestic relocations and I have developed this channel to help my audience with their relocation to the area.
Contact me today if you are considering relocating to Oregon.
I love Portland, but stop sending people to Voodoo Donuts. Their success is clever marketing, cute names, and lots of frosting to take you mind off the truly craptastic donuts. I groan every time someone brings them to a meeting. Blue Star Donuts are good. Actually, almost all the donuts in Portland are decent. I love donuts, but Voodoo Donuts are inedible. Too much frosting. All decoration and naming, nothing to do with flavor.
I actually really like Voodoo! The Portland Cream is super soft in the middle with nice filling. Have you tried Pips donuts on NE Fremont? That’s my favorite donut shop and dangerously close to my office!
@@relocatingtoportlandoregon I will have to try Pips. I am picky about donuts. They have to be delicious without any frosting. My mom had a cafe and was renowned for her donuts. Her recipe begins "Take 10 pounds of flour..."
South Waterfront has a MAJOR flaw in my opinion. There is no grocery store such as a Trader Joe's, New Seasons or Whole Foods. I worked as a field tech and have been to all of those buildings and that is a consistent concern I heard from my customers.
That's great feedback - thanks for sharing. There is Urbana Marker for the smaller trips, but you're right that it could do with a larger store within the community.
Hi David! Great stuff! I'd love to work with you, If you need a video editor, I can edit one video for free to show you my work. If you're interested, just let me know! 🙂
Thanks for a good review, our in laws live in the area and we visit from the U.K. everything is within 10mins and really well thought out and clean place to live.
another great video! Mr. Backholer you provide excellent information, I've enjoyed your videos a lot. Your videos are very informative and have educated me on the different neighborhoods of Portland. In the 80s I lived in Beaverton as a junior high schooler and my dad worked downtown, and I never knew any of the names of the different sections of Portland. Thank you very much for covering Portland (and the surrounding areas) as well as you do!
@@relocatingtoportlandoregon Hey thanks for your reply! I am enjoying another one of your videos right now...top places to live in 2024. Your content is always very useful, and the maps and other footage is really good and adds excellent perspective. I really appreciate your coverage - all the information is extremely interesting and valuable.
Glad you are enjoying it and thanks for the feedback. I am actually in the process of editing a video on the city of Newberg right now - look out for that one in a few weeks time!
I am amazed at your ability to film this video without tents and overflowing shopping carts in the background. No Portland is not a wasteland, but it certainly has dropped off the last 10 years. No worries as Beaverton, Hillsboro and a handful of other burbs have taken off.
There were tents down the smaller sides streets, but the main areas show signs of recovering from covid times. I agree about Beaverton and Hillsboro as strong options and my Hillsboro neighborhood guide is released on 7/23! Thanks for watching and have a great week.
When were you there last? I was there last weekend. It's remarkably cleaned up. The only good thing that came out of the pandemic was outdoor seating at restaurants. There is so much potential down there. I walked all around downtown......I was disappointed the Keller Fountain is still empty. I never felt threatened. Everyone was nice and pleasant. But not enough people. Lots of things in the works, but it all takes time. Where are all you transplants with real estate money just waiting for a commercial opportunity? I'm so tired of internet shopping funding oligarch's rockets into space.
I go up there all the time to walk around taking pictures downtown has recovered nicely but there are still aras where I hide my camera. The area around the train station and Chinatown is pretty rough as is the area near the Burnside bridge I have lived here for 14 years and Portland is better but not as good as it was when I first came here but what city is better?
@mgman6000 My Dad worked at NW natural gas downtown by the steel bridge. I was really bad then. Park street was all peep shows, gay bars and strip clubs.
@@csnoremac1 If you are open to the condo/townhouse lifestyle, then there are plenty of options in your budget. North West Portland including Goose Hollow, the Pearl district and Nob Hill will have a lot of options, however condos & townhouses are scattered throughout most neighborhoods in Portland so it depends on what your requirements are. Feel free to ping me a text with a little more information on what you're looking for: 971 380 0678
Nah, downtown PDX doesn't suck. It offers a lot. There's plenty to do there. I'll be watchin' for all ya to sketch! Keep Portland Sketchy and pick up Sketchy People books at Powell's!
Hey Jack! I've seen some of your sketchy work on social media before (and I think I saw your stand at the Mississippi street fair last year). I love your work!
Does it suck to try and make $$ on this bozo video??? Vancouver, Wa waterfront is getting worse then Portland now. But they both suck. My condolences living there!
One pays slip rent OR HOA fees, never both. I don't think you meant to imply that but at 3:40+ it sounded like you were talking about slip rent and an HOA as an additional fee. One either rents their slip (slip rent), or owns it (HOA). I live on a floating home and so do my parents. I can attest to it being a fabulous way to live! Nice video.
Hi Rita. Yes! I have a video where I talk a lot more about the 55+ community shown in this video (the Claremont neighborhood in Bethany) in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eLYb0zNbyik.html I also show 3 other nearby 55+ communities in this video. Please send me an email if you would to know more about these: david@pdxhomerealty.com
My company has a branch in Vancouver WA and Portland and I have looked many times as I am a trail/ultra runner however the out of control drug use that has destroyed Portland in my opinion keeps me from considering the area
Thank you. I'll have to check out that game! Lost Lake is a stunning spot. Very relaxing and a nice separation from the hustle and bustle of everyday life
I made the move from Texas to Oregon in 2018. I lived on the coast, lived in Portland and in the valley. The best part was the valley McMinnville in particular however, I moved right before the pandemic and only went back once to try it one more time as I’m a big love nature and the outdoors and Oregon definitely has this hands-down, but I could not overcome all of the drug addicts and wading through homeless people, human waste all over the sidewalks to get to the front door of my office in Portland. Also the evening commute killed me. I will never consider living there again during the current state of the USA. I moved out of the country 2 years ago from Salem and best decision of my life.
Thanks for your comment. I agree parts of Portland have their problems. Is it getting better? I personally think so, but there is still a long way to go. Best of luck with life in your new country...
@@relocatingtoportlandoregon Getting better? Things don't get better unless you do something to fix it and improve it. Oregon government does nothing to fix current problems. It's going to get worse.
Thanks Chis. I think it is one of the hidden gems in the area. If you are thinking of buying a home in Dallas, take a look at a video I released a couple of weeks ago where I tour the Fowler homes development in more depth. Unbelievable prices for new construction! Please reach out if I can help you and thank you for your interest in my channel.
