Looking back on this, if geeks were chic, then why did all of the freaks go on to be huge stars but only one of the geeks did and that geek was half geek half freak on his biggest role, Silicon Valley?
I never saw or heard about it when it originally aired. In 2005 I saw the boxset in Target and bought it. I’ve watched every episode atleast 30 times. No episode ever gets old. I graduated HS in 1984 and these characters are archtypes. I feel like I knew them when I was in HS.
I remember in one of the commentary tracks for Freaks and Geeks, Judd Apatow said that Samm Levine was the Rupert Pupkin (a reference to King of Comedy star Robert DeNiro who kidnapped Jerry Lewis in that movie) of kid actors because he was soooooo desperate to end up on television as an actor.
Next to Firefly, I so wish Freaks and Geeks hadn’t been canceled. I only saw one or two episodes of F & G when it was first broadcast on NBC, but I didn’t really discover it until the golden era of Netflix when you could rent DVDs that were complete and had commentary tracks on them at the beginning of 2004. By the time I finished watching the episode where the geeks had befriended Maureen and took her to the park to watch them launch model rockets and the hilarious dialogue between Neil and Bill about Bill’s big rocket, I fell completely in love with this show. I immediately bought the box DVD set and it remains one of my favorite TV shows to this day.
I was in HS in the 80s, this show got it SPOT ON! Right down to the army jacket lol (the uniform for kids who wanted to identify as part of the "stoner crowd" - which was me back then 😅). By far the most realistically acted teenager show EVER, every single character almost!
I only saw the pilot episode i loved it i had to work when it was on. If you were not an outcast in highschool much of it probably people wont relate too. It gave me an appreciation of four years i hated.
If you haven’t watched freaks and geeks.. you’re missing out. Amazing casting, amazing writing. Bill Haverchuck was my favorite. He was me as a kid, the going home anxious and sad and then eating the microwave dinner alone and being blown away watching a comedy special hit me hard.. cried a bit. Martin Starr is a treasure. They all are but we all have our favorites ❤
I don't think we can ever forget Freaks and Geeks because the show left the cast with everlong friendships like for instance the friendship that Seth has With James and the friendship Seth has with Judd
I wish that Seth Rogen and Busy Phillips had better ideas for their character's futures. It sounds like they just went the stereotypical route for kids in high school in a small town with the odds stacked against them as far as upbringing and social influence. Just because you're a bank teller doesn't mean you can't lead a happy life.
Una serie muy avanzada a su tiempo y para mí una de las mejores de todo el tiempo me encanta todos los temas tan delicados que tocan .....saludos desde México
A someone who grew up in the 70's, despite one season, I think it is one of the top 10 tv series of all time. Brilliantly written and even better acted. Something from every episode resonated in some way. Was crushed and shocked when it was cancelled. Bought the only season on DVD and to this day still mad it was cancelled. Even more surprised another network didn't pick it up.
Here’s where I see the freaks: Kim: Breeder for dogs Ken: Stand up comic Daniel: Male model Nick: Music store owner Lindsay: University math teacher and married to Neal’s brother Barry
