I don't cast braid anymore. I simply use the pitching technique. Why cast far when the fish are everywhere around your boat? Use a long 10 foot rod and just pitch it out there.
I have the feeling that you missed the brain at the start. There was still regular movement of opercula/gills (1:33) and eye-roll reflex. Hitting the brain is very important to reduce stress and increase meat quality. Otherwise, a good video to show Ikejime.
Some YT videos state that fresh water will deteriorate the quality of the fish. I understand that the flushing and cleaning are done with seawater to preserve the quality, but is the ice not fresh water and does that not cause deterioration?
@trevorchang2973 great question! Using a ice/slurry with 1 part ice and 1 part seawater has found to cool fish faster than other methods and also extend shelf life of fish longer than other methods such as shelf cooling at 0degrees, ice only or chilled water only.
Thanks for the tips!! I fished for a couple years on my 8' surf rod, over spooled(4500 slammer iii) with 45lb jbraid(limber) or 40lb power pro(kinda stiff) and never had any issues. Recently I spooled a 3500 slammer iv with 30 pound jbraid and have had nothing but issues, the only time it doesn't wind knot is if I throw a >3 oz bait with the perfect cast. The line lay isn't the best and a bit loose, so I'll shim the spool and respool it in hope that will fix it, if it doesn't I'm going back to 45lb.
Nothing is impossible, but it's a huge feat if you pull that off. Your odds would definitely be higher aboard a boat with someone like No Boundaries Oman. Good luck!!
How large of species do you target with the fg? Been tying it for years but haven’t tried it jigging for tuna. I swear by this knot but a lot of nay sayers claim it’s not strong enough for tuna.
Use it for everything! Topwater GT Fishing, Tuna, jigging, game fishing, even joining backing on trolling outfits and all the way down to light finesse gear
John Amazing presentation indeed! I am a New England(Massachusetts, USA) Bluefin freak who like you, is fanatic about the spin/pop approach. I make my own custom tuna lures too. I found the description and pics of the subtle surface disturbances especially helpful because I see it up here and ofter fail to explore it simply because they don't reveal themselves on top....what a dope! I'll try to be more patient and work it over more thoroughly in the future. Thanks for the tip!! Keep up the good work. You are top shelf!
Hola.
Yes you can recover Tuna. Swim them beside the boat to recover, a great technique is shown with Pratiko Tuna Grips and reviving fish. Fight the fish fast and not to exhaustion, recovery will be better.
