The Viking seems to make a puttering noise and a clacking sound. Is that coming from the engine, drive train, or mic? I am planning on buying one but worried about noise level.
If I do get a 4 seater it will probably be the yamaha wolverine x4 XTR 1000. I like my viking but if I were to change i want power, quiet, and smooth. I must be getting old.
It would be interesting. I guess it all would boil down to traction and how wet the ground is. I was ok for power, but I had my hands full getting traction.
So that radio is an SSV works radio. I cant lie I got rid of it shortly after this ride. Wasnt a fan of the sound quality for the money. I currently have a setup I piece mealed off amazon for about $100 that works GREAT!!!
Hey I like your videos. I have a 2016 Viking and love it. I was looking at getting the Yamaha soft doors and back window. How is it holding up? Does tree limbs scratch it bad? Can you haul it on a open trailer?
Roddie the windows do get scratched a bit, but its to be expected. $400 vs $4000 for a hardtop I can replace them a few times and still be ahead. I do haul on an open trailer about 120 miles to camp and it does ok, mind you I keep an eye on it. I only leave it on in the winter, too dang hot in the summer!!! Last but not least thank you for the compliments, I have barely rode this year as we have been busy. I think I have only put about 65 miles on it since christmas. Just havent had time...
Do you close the windows when hauling? Someone said you should trailer it with the doors open but that seems like it would act like a parachute. Sorry I keep asking questions it is great to see someone that actually uses something.
awesome man. IV been there with dirt bikes IV never took my Viking there yet your s did well. what tires are you using I got 28 wild things on mine no lift. an no rubbing what so ever. an 18 gram primary weights stock secondary spring an a JBS miled sheve an wet slugged wet clutch
Topgunviking Hard To Kill hopefully this summer we will get some more videos up, didn't have a whole lot of time last year to ride. this year I'm making time for it.
Ya IV tried a bunch of different combinations in the clutch set up. I'm in pa I do the same type of riding you do. Check out JBS there great people.. 18 gram primary greaseless weights I've used the orange secondary spring it's good if you're running a lot of mud and keep the RPM up but I don't like that for Woods riding so I use the stock secondary spring it keeps the rpm lower uses less fuel but make sure you get the slug kit for your wet clutch that's the first thing I did when I bought the machine yours might be burned up they're like 200 bucks when you go to take that off it's a left hand thread on the wet clutch drum make sure you get a new nut every time you take that off it's a stake down nut
I was wondering the same thing about the tires. Those stock Maxis Big Horn 2.0's are OK for a break-in period but a larger rim (14") and bigger (26"+) beefier, knobbier tires are a must on the Viking. The 686 CI has got a boatload of torque...it's just needs a firm grip, more clearance and you're damn near unstoppable :)
Gary ive had the ebrake adjusted everytime its been in for service. as far as the lift affecting the ride not at all, tires have made it a little more rough. The only thing that affected any handling was removing the rear swaybar to accommodate the lift. I dont ride at high speeds much so its not a big concern
I am 6'6" and I agree with you that overall it has plenty of room. I have aroun1650 miles on my Viking and I have had it about the same time as you. I agree that more power would be nice but it has yet failed to get me where I am going. I still have the stock tires and was wondering how the lift and bigger tires effected the ride. I like the windshield and was ready to get one however for the fact that you are nearly as tall as me I might end up with the same eye level problem. One last thing is ; Have you had any problem with your emergency brake not holding. I tried to adjust mine but I still can't get it to really grab as it should. Hey videos you put up.
Brandon Corwin oh nice it looks like a nice ride I've been trying to decide between the viking and the wolverine I think your videos just helped me make up my mind
Terry I love my Viking, I like the wolverine, but I love the Viking. I dont think I could do without the dumpbed! I put that thing through its paces. I will get some more videos up soon.
Brandon Corwin think you could do like a walk around just show the inside and how much space it has I can't find to many good videos of walk around on the viking
Terry I think I can do that. Im 6'4" tall, so i can tell you its more than roomy. The bed can hold WAAAAAAY more than Yamaha claims lol. I will see what I can do Tuesday when I have a day off...
Love the videos. Does the Viking ever feel like it's lacking in power? Does it feel real stable on hills? Thank you for sharing your Viking vids with us.
jj bepp there are definitely times I wished it had a little more power but for the most part it does exactly what I need of it. As for stability you have to try really hard to roll it. I rolled it the other day for the first time and I mean I was leaning hard before it went over. Hopefully I will get to post some new videos soon...its been a busy summer so I havent had it out much this year.
+jj Bepp 26" ITP mud lites now, the stockers sucked! Im toying around with a lift too, as if I had just a hair more ground clearance I could go anywhere!
Hi Brandon, I really enjoy all the Viking videos. I am planning on getting a Viking in the future and it's real nice to see what they are capable of. Keep up the good work, and keep the vids coming, I can't get enough of them. Also, what size tires are you running on it.
+jj Bepp Thanks for the nice comments! I forgot the gopro sunday when we were riding, the ole girl was beastly! I promise you wont be disappointed if you get one, it does everything I ask of it and more!
I took a $15.00 waterbottle brack off one of my MTB and mounted it inside the rear roof of my 2015 Viking. it holds an EU Boom speaker perfectly. I use my Iphone, Pandora app and Bluetooth. Sounds great - all in I spent $215.00. inexpensive, great sound, remove it for security and charges off the cig-lighter (15 hours per charge. When im not on my viking, I simply remove it and use it in the house, boat wherever!
Jeremy I have 26" ITP Mud Lites. The big horns clog up with mud too easy. Since changing the tires I can go all sorts of places that used to hang me up.
Eric D The radio is an SSV works. I actually just took it out and sold it as the reception was terrible, and the sound quality was ehhhhhhh. I actually just mounted a Kenwood marine head unit, with marine speakers which is 10 times better and less money invested! I also have a marine amp that I may throw in there too for the fun of it. Just a little worried about too much draw on the battery.
Cool! Thanks for the input. I saw in the accessory catalog that they offer a "second battery kit". I won't go that far, but some tunes would be nice. Out here in ID FM coverage is spotty at best, I will have to go with a satellite set up if anything.
Jake it will rub on both sides of the dump bed. Double check before you head over there, they are grooming trails through May. Bad winter toe the place up pretty bad.
was looking into a teryx. Whats the cab room for the driver like in comparison to the two? I'm a pretty big guy. at 6'6' its hard to find a comfortable fit for a sidebyside
appreciate that. Buddy has a rhino and its just like a little tight for the liking. Honestly like the both viking and teryx so now the choice begins. thanks again!
Gary I stay in low range when we are in the woods, we never break 20mph. 4wd was a must yesterday since there was plenty of ice under the snow(its been below freezing for the last few weeks here). In the summer I use mostly 2wd until im good and stuck!
Gary, I tried diff lock, but ultimately just backed up and gave it hell in 4 wheel drive. It was solid ice in our tracks, it added a little element of fun. To answer your other question Im running a bone stock machine.
I have a 2015 Viking and I live in So. Cal. where it can snow. I enjoy your videos and I was wondering; While in the snow do you use low or high range while traveling in hill like terrain ? Also do you find you travel most places in two wheel drive or do you stay in 4x4 ?
Brandon the Viking is an awesome machine! If it will fit, it will usually go! We do a lot of riding when the weather is a bit warmer. I've no desire to freeze to death in this cold nonsense!
That was awesome. I just traded my Rzr in on 2015 green vicking haven't really had it on any trails yet I'm in Pennsylvania about 30 minutes away from Pittsburgh we should go riding sometime
Jasen, It was more nerve wracking knowing that we barely fit through the door! It was pretty cool, as we were 300+ feet below ground. Its definitely something that Im glad we did!
Hey Boeing, This is at Mines and meadows in Wampum Pa, about an hour northwest of Pittsburgh. Its a GREAT place to ride, lots of trails of various degrees of difficulty. There is an mine you can tour, which was pretty cool. I have those videos on here as well.
Ryan Both are more than capable, I own the Viking, and my cousin owns the Teryx in these videos. The Viking has the ground clearance, and the Teryx has a little more power, but all in all very very good machines! The downside to both is they are a little wide, compared to some of the other offerings. That said this was the only solid instance of being truly stuck in our riding this summer!
