The Bee Gees should be proud that a spoof Act has produced a work of superior quality the heebie-jeebies are to the Bee Gees as the Rutles are to the Beatles
For a laugh, there was a parody group of the Bee Gees, the Hee Bee Gee Bees "Meaningless songs in very high voices: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zlWqNl4Yips.html.
Michael Fenton-Stevens went through a period of playing slimeballs and wusses on radio and television but he has a podcast now and seems like one of the nicest people on Twitter. He's also playing the Wizard in Wicked at the moment.
We can go out to a movie to a club or to a restaurant I don't mind where we're going This is just another Friday so let's just go out and have some fun I don't mind what we're doing Don't just say you're in love tonight I will run run run run out of sight Go anywhere, anywhere, anywhere, anyway... I don't love you! I don't love you! You don't have to be so charming I've made up my mind I'm going home and that's alone without you Let us still be friends tomorrow so let's just go out and have some fun I don't mind what we're doing Don't just say you're in love tonight I will run run run run out of sight Go anywhere, anywhere, anywhere, anyway... I don't love you! I don't love you! I hope you're doing this just for fun I hope you're doing this with no intentions I really hope you don't like me too much Go anywhere, anywhere, anywhere, anyway... I don't love you! Not so. The BeeGees had already stopped "mainstream" recording at the end of 1979 due to a backlash against "disco" music - "Disco Demolition Night" was on July 12 1979 set up by two Nazi DJs who didn't like disco music and, on the back of Saturday Night Fever, the Gibb brothers suffered most from this charade. Ironic bearing in mind the Gibbs never did disco music, there's was RnB. Their last big hit, Tragedy, was just before the disco demolition night of 1979 and the HeeBeeGeeBees recorded this around 8 months later. Besides, the brothers had already decided they wanted to take a back seat and do solo work and work for other artists - they never saw themselves as singers anyway, they saw themselves first and foremost as writers. If you look at the list of artists that they have written songs for you'll understand this - going all the way back to Otis Redding in the 60s.
The story goes Maurice first heard this when he was out shopping, and for a minute or so was like, "Hang on, I don't remember recording this one." His state of mind was hazy at the time due to his pharmaceutical intake
The true story is that Angus and the guys had approached the Gibbs for permission and the Gibbs (rightly in my opinion) asked them to change the lyric "meaningless" and they refused and recorded the song anyway. Maurice was never "pharmaceutically" minded, he was alcoholic and was in a mall in the U.S and, upon hearing it, even whilst slightly drunk he knew it was them and they'd recorded it anyway and he was fuming. Personally, as a lifelong Bee Gees fan I find the imitation amazing but I'm with the brothers on the use of the word "meaningless".
@@StephenHarris-nv5rhyou’re right. Their songs were definitely not just sing along songs. They wrote about a lot of really thought provoking things and important social and political issues. 😂
