Thank you for this - I particularly like the 'tools' supporting the back of the honeycomb 'cone' which enabled the correct height for alignment. The 17mm is derived from when the top face of the honeycomb is planar with the face of the frame 'well' into which the outer surround mounts; Rather than use the 17mm measurement, (which is from the very top face of the frame to the underside of the honeycomb - neither of which surface is actually being utilized in the actual mounting process) I actually aligned it by the following method - take a 150mm (6") steel rule and place it on its long edge on the top of the honeycomb; adjust the screws to set the height of the honeycomb such that you can just slide the rule over the edge of the frame section; adjust all 4 screws and use your rule at different points around the frame to ensure that you have consistent planarity between the honeycomb and the frame. This method is much easier to achieve the result and I would contend more accurate too. Thank you for your feedback, Decosse. I assume your easier method is good and maybe even more accurate to. My APM speaker boxes are in use since the RU-vid publication date and are still working great. And yes, there are more suppliers of the refoam kit. If you have good results with your UK-supplier, it must be a good aternative. When I replaced the foam, a few years ago, I saw only Turkish -, and Russian suppliers. I choose the Turkish one, who delivered rather fast and turned out a reliable refoam kit. More choices these days, so it seems. Good luck with your APM's and thank you for telling me your experiences.
Hi Hans I have a pair of APM 55W that require refoaming. Using your repair method, would the 17mm distance between the wooden slat and the top of the aluminum frame still apply? Where did you obtain the 17mm reference for the APM 33W repair? Thanks, Warren
Hi Warren, because these are different speakers, I'm not sure if the 17mm is the same for APM55 speakers. The only reason is to hold to surface of the speaker in line with the frame, when it is in "standby" position. When the foam has gone, and you lay the speaker on it's magnet, the coil and surface go down a little bit. The slats should present that happen. The slats should keep the surface up in the common "standby" position. With the bolts in the slats you can tune exactly. I suppose it will be 17mm or more (magnet is heaver). Once you tuned the right position you're able to glue the new foam correctly. Is it clear for you? Regards H

My apm101es speakers had exactly the same problem. I sent to Russia for the new foams. Fitted them myself BUT my woofers are black not silver and had the original glue from the worn away foam on the underside of the black cardboard woofer not on the top like your video. These are from 1990. Can you give me any advice or help.? They sound great. But at about No.5 on the vol. I get a small howling noise in the background. Thanks John
Hi there John, I am not at home at the moment to check your question. But normally squaking noises or such with louder volume could mean that the speakercoil is not completely free moving (with more power) and touching the wall of the speaker magnet. Maybe it is not correctly in the center rearanged, when the new foam is glued? Our maybe the coil is swollen by overheat? So it takes more room then original. Much more other reasons I can't imagin. If you try it by hand carrifully, maybe you can feel it if it touches something. Good luck! Regards, Hans

Well my apm 158s for my fh 15r just went out whilst playing bass music. Guess ill need foam now, good thing reproductions are sold on ebay. Also good thing i shut it off right away before damaging the coil from scraping

I wasn't sure about wanting to fix my APM 33's, but after watching your terrific video a few times, I've gone ahead ordered new surrounds from Behzat's eBay store. Can't wait to get them so I can rescue my Sony speakers. I'll post a short video showing the results afterwards.

Jaarlijks op 10 december gedenkt ook Amnesty International-Almere de Dag van de Mensenrechten. Het thema ‘Vrijheid’ is in beeld gebracht met ruim 45 kunstwerken gemaakt door deelnemers van Stichting de 4 Elementen in samenwerking met Amnesty International afdeling Almere. En net zoals in de hele wereld werd op deze dag ook in Almere een ‘schrijfmarathon’ gehouden, een mogelijkheid om brieven te schrijven met verzoek om recht, eerlijke processen en vrijlating. Hoop voor slachtoffers en mensenrechtenactivisten. De kunstwerken zijn te bezichtigen tot 10 februari 2015 in de publieksruimte van HierTV, Kerkgracht 41 in Almere-Haven. Hallo Pimpelimpaux, wat gebruik je om af te spelen? Een Telefoon, Tablet, van Android, Apple?, Of PC Windows? afspelen via Player Quicktime, WinMediaPlayer? Ik zie hier op diverse PC's, TV en Mobieltjes geen enkel probleem en hoor dat ook niet van anderen. Het videoformaat is HD 1280x720-30p zoals al mijn uploads. Een formaat wat alle IPad/Pod achtigen snappen. Laat het even weten.
I think you did a wonderful job repairing the speaker. I own a set that needs repair and really not capable of doing the repair work. If you know anyone who would be interested in purchasing mine, please let me know. Cabinets are in wonderful shape. Even have the metal stands that were sold with them.
Hi Jeff. It was a matter of step by step carefull thinking and no hurry. First, I never thought those square foam suspension were possible to buy. Surprisingly they are and Behzat from Turkey did deliver those. Probable limited to certain great vintage loudspeakers. About repairing; well I´ve heard there are some specialist who are capable to repair such vintage loudspeakers, but no idea precisly who and where, never checked, but that is in The Netherlands. No idea who offer such service (and for what price) accross the ocean in Arizona USA. That is where you live if I understand your Google+ profile correctly. So also if you want to sell, by eBay or such, I asume it is only possible to sell to people who can repair them and living, more or less, in the neighborhood because of the high transport cost for such heavy loudspeakers. Dank u Wilna Buijtenhuis. En inderdaad spannend, omdat er in het gehele proces m.b.t. bronsgieten volgens de 'verloren wasmethode' veel voorbereiding vereist en het nodige fout kan gaan. Voor nadere informatie, zie ook de website van Marja Thijssen, de docente.
