I switched from Bolt v2 to Garmin Edge 840, but 2 months later came back. The Bolt v2 has a certain elegance, a simplicity afforded by the things it does not do. At the same time, the data screens are so well-designed and information intensive in a way I was unable to replicate on Garmin.
Nice overhaul. Very Nice. I once picked up a curbside Black 5 Speed Schwinn Suburban that I rode daily. I only let it go because it was a very large frame and I received a very nice offer from an acquaintance. I do miss it. Replaced it with a Black King Sting.
I have noticed that every Bike I buy from the Marketplace that has caked up Grease, Lube, Dirt are usually in better condition that other bikes. I call them "Mummies" since it seems some of that gunk is acting as a protectant.. lol
When assembling a stem to handlebars I remove the bolt from the handlebar stem clamping area and tap a tapered wooden shim in the gap to spread it slightly. That way it will slide on. I don't wiggle it on and scratch the handlebars.
Agree….the chamois makes these unridable! These shorts use a very large thick chamois pad. If you are size XL-XXXL they may be ok. Pad for Medium size short doesn't sit right for the sit bones. Strong pass for this reason. Material feels good and overall sizing was ok for my 6' 165lb body.
Just finished first sprint tri, had an awful swim, a really good bike and a PB run time after biking. I hadn't swam in years, but trained 2-4 times a week for 4 weeks before the race, it was not enough. i'm a idiot for thinking it would be easy. If you aren't a strong swimmer don't do what i did, Make sure you practice swimming consistently, also a good tip is to practice "sighting drills" in the pool, swimming in open water is very different, theres no black line to follow, visibility is almost nothing and you will find yourself swimming off course and end up swimming further than you need to, so super important to practice looking where you are going and following a line. Overall time was just under 1h20 which I'm super happy with but a lot to improve on, i spent 12 mins in transition which can definitely be halved at least! Some great swimming channels on youtube i'm learning a lot from are, Effortless Swimming, Global Triathlon Network, Fares Ksebati. Good luck people, you can do it!
Schwinn's Bicycle ride is solid, I like it. I feel like I can ride it anywhere and be ok, no flats like I get on my lightweight bicycles all of the time. I bought a Schwinn Le Tour III this past Sunday, I'm as excited about it as I was when I saw it on the Facebook marketplace.
If you connect varia to the app on your smartphone, can you simultanuosly use google navigation and varia? I'm thinking of getting one, but I ride with the navigation on...
I was looking for a channel exactly like this. Thank you for your great job on this bike and bringing back to life again. Subscribed and will check all of your restorations!
The shop I worked in back in the day was a Bridgestone dealer. I got pro deals on a yellow/white RB-1, like yours, and a white MB-Zip. I should've kept them both! The RB-1 cable housing was silver/gray. I believe the brakes were Dia Compe 300. The stem was a Ritchey, bars were Nitto. The wheels were Ritchey Vantage rims laced to Ultegra 600 hubs. The headset, cranks, derailleurs, BB, and bar end shifters were all Ultegra. I can't remember what the saddle was. I switched mine over to a Concor. The seatpost was an ugly Sakae. I upgraded to a Ritchey/Nitto.
The Bolt is not for reading messages, FB, etc, while riding. It's dangerous.! It should solely give only essential cycling information. If you want all of it, then pay more. Many of us just ignore hp alerts & just concentrate on cycling better.
Sensational frame, great colour, ugly groupset. More than half of this video only shows brake hoses fiddled through the frame, and what pro mechanic lubes the chain from the outside (let alone a new one with perfect factory grease still on it?!
Sorry, you think packing grease is good chain lube? That says enough. Also, you think I'm a pro mechanic? Building bikes in my spare bedroom my guy. I appreciate the compliment though lol.
Justin, so after 11 days when you did not get a response, why did you drop the issue? Why didn't you follow up with them? It sounded like you were close to them rebuilding the wheel around your old hub. I think you should have pushed the issue. Additionally, sorry about your crash, and I can somewhat relate to the experience you had. While I never had a catastrophic failure on my pre 2011 Fulcrum carbon rim brake wheels, as an engineer, I could never seem to find any data that would help determine when the useful life of carbon-rim brake wheels is up. It has always been a mystery that haunted me on every ride. Now, with a set of Boyd Prologue 44 disc wheels, I dont worry about that issue anymore, and feel confident in a robust design. Good luck.
Thanks for this, very helpful! One major tip I would give is RESEARCH the course. Make sure you are comfortable with the swim and the elevation for the run and bike ride. That way you can preserve your energy where you need it.
First triathlon coming up in 4 days: Ironman Kalmar. I don't think I prepared enough for the cycle, and also don't know bike maintenance. So I'm a little nervous. But let's see.
You’re better off getting a bike and trainer so you can at least go outside when you want to. A $500 trainer and $1500 bike will give you more happiness. Peletons are good to use at gyms. I like their resistance gauge and it’s smoother than a trainer.
Ah comon. Messages from google meet and facebook? I go riding to leave all this things behind. To be with myself, to relax. I don't need all these messages, notifications and instructions. Just spin, relax, look around the great views and enjoy. Thanks a lot for the review. I decided that I need to buy it at 2024. Hope Wahoo will not release v3 in few months after I'll buy v2 lol. Have a great day!
Old vid I know but I just found it. Very good points and I am looking forward to getting mine..order is in. it's on the way. Now if we can just get some decent weather LoL
Video was so helpful for bike service in general. Working on a '86 Schwinn Tempo that I purchased almost fully restored four years ago. Rode the thing to work and back every day in the city for two years and still continue to ride it every week. It is finally getting the love and overdue service it needs. Many of your tips will be a huge help during that process.
I just finished my first sprint triathlon today. I followed your advice and it was extremely smooth and successful 375 m swim, 10:45 22K cycling, 46:38 5k run 29:06 Total time including transitions 1:31:39, which is much better than my expectation. I thought it will Exceed’s 1 hour and 40 min
Wonderful explanation of the emotional and meditative experiences in restoring bikes. Too, going beyond making a classic bike as clean and functional as it can be AS IT IS, is not super classy IMO--happy you let the paint show its age and experience.
my this account for designers and i only sub to graphic designers and animation and all that stuff........ but i am subscribing you ...... coz i guess i got same inspiration form you...... as i get form designers and animators........... cool....... god bless you.............
Did you have shin splints on the outside or the inside then? I believe you pointed out that you were feeling it right where you had the pain which is on the outside. Do you think it helps for shin splints on the inside of your shins? Thanks!
I did my 1st Tri last year and learned all that Justin said the hard way, I did my 2nd yesterday all be it a short novis one 400m swim 10-mile easy MTB bike, and 3k run I was 2nd last on the swim but I am a mountain biker and some times runner (between injuries)but came1st overall by three minutes in a field of about 80 couldn't to believe it. Practice really paid off. The punch line is I am 64 years old.
He got a lot of valid points and criticism. This is why I haven’t upgraded my Bolt 1 yet, but are slowly starting to use my Apple Watch and iPhone for cycling. With watchOS 10 and 11 Apple is starting to become a real contender for the non professional cyclist.
