My dad, Lt. Homer P. Schilling, was C/O of LST 347. He called them Large Slow Targets. He took part in landings at Bizerte, Salerno, and Normandy. Here's to him and all the other sailors, brave or otherwise, who fought the Facists in WWII. May we never forget them.
Well, it is an unknown. Bought back a commercial Angus 4-H heifer from a family. Said she was never with a bull. Guess what this is what she had and they said they didn't know what happened. So I guess she could be called an Oops!
They don't use dogs? Our terrain here in Montana on our graze leases is that bad to way worse but most of us use dogs to help and they are worth their weight in gold in our steep brush, trees and rocks in the mountains.
Recently found your channel & enjoy watching. We are transitioning from dairy into beef cattle. What service sires ( studs )do you use to produce club calves ? We are starting our herd with Angus, & Limflex bloodlines, & use 100% A.I. What do you look for when breeding your pure Angus cows ?
If looking for steers, Here I Am, Wynn In Doubt, How Great Thou Art to name a few (keep in mind most of those clubby bulls aren't calving ease). Breeding maternal look at a lot of the Griswold bulls. For Angus if you want growth look at ABS and other semen company bulls. Breeding Angus for show heifers again a different story. Cattle Visions is another source of a variety of semen.
I was taught to bred by EPD,s, just look through a genetics supplier's catalog and use the EPD's to pick the ones you think will work for what you want to do. I have recently learned that can be detrimental to your herds future potential. I now want to research the pedigree's very thoroughly and pick sires that are out of very good cows, and have very high maternal traits, or maybe i should just say the cows that last a long time, and wean a nice calf. I believe some cows are stingy and keep a better body condition and wean lighter calf's, and some cows will provide all they can to produce good stout calf's and she will look a little run down at weaning, but so long as they are bringing you a calf at weaning they are providing something. She don't have to have the best udder but they need to have an udder that can nurse a calf. She needs to have good feet, I do and dont use EPD's for feet, i think feet EPD's are subjective because they imply a potential bias.... They also leave out certain data intentionally to make certain EPD's portray a false expectation, skew the data going into the EPD,s is the manipulation they are inputting, then they add in reductions on older genetics, in trying to portray new genetics as better potential, when that is not the case. I hope that makes some since.
@@derricksowers9074 Same is true with the registered Holstein breed. They push & push high genomic cattle & bull proofs, any cattle that have the proven old bloodlines ,they automatically receive a lower value or a negative index . I prefer to look for the time tested bloodlines on both the maternal & paternal side ,& ignore the hype of the bull studs. Old genetics never die, but the Holstein Assoc. buries them anyway.
