Volvo Bought Seven Marine and shut it down bc it took sales from its POD drive. The GM 6.2 engine is much better than Volvo engines, the Seven tilts out of danger, the POD is a deep water engine only and outboards are much more versatile. Yes, Volvos make great cars, trucks and commercial vehicles.
I wont say they're not cool..... But for the amount of money each of these cost, you could equip that boat with a couple amazing inboard twins which would not only perform better but use less fuel and probably offer better running performance. High priced outboards seem counter productive.
I almost feel sorry for people who post things about the fuel consumption. As far as power to speed ratio. It takes excessive power to drive a deep V boat through the water at high speeds. Why you ask? the deeper the V, the more surface area in the water and more drag. Also, these boats are around 14,000 pounds. A car weighs about 3,500 and it's on roller bearings. Think people...
Derek Ortiz I agree, but I will say again, if you have to ask, you cant afford it. Anyone who drops 280K on 4 engines most likely isn't looking to be frugal with his money. I'm sure its not his only boat.
Truth. Not about the 280k though for me. A rig with that much power would probably be at least 600k and you get a hell of a yacht for 600k used. I'd get a center console just to have the 7s though.
right and wrong. 4 outboarders on a well built center console is more than efficient. ex nortech 390 with quad verado 400s runs over 100mph whereas a triple 400 is in the 80mph. key is having the proper boat and setup
The engines are great. For everyone who thinks 75 mph in a 36' cc isn't fast you should consider the boat design itself has a max speed. Yes the quads are overkill however, you should realize 75 mph for the quads is not their top speed. If they pushed that boat much faster the boat itself would become unstable. The engines, and additional props, could make it go much faster. Remember, its a fishing boat, not a cigarette or racing boat. The 557's at cruise (60 mph) burn about 11 gallons per hour each. The engines were never designed for minimalists. They were designed because the owners/manufacture saw people hanging triple, quad and quintuplet 300hp outboards off the back of fishing boats. For those talking about drag, two 557 sevens at 1,100 hp create less drag than three outboard 300 hp (900 hp), i.e. less drag more hp means more efficiency. These engines fill a niche for those who want more hp, pure and simple, and yes two of them are more efficient than three outboard 300s.
Absolutely awesome! Talk bout powerhouse 2 the max. Sounnds great too reving out at high speed! Bring it on. Go hard or go home! Wish I was on board. Get your heart racing!
You could run one mecury 1350 single for 200,000 and save 150,000 and be as fast if not faster but then you lose fishing space and only one engine. I think one of these is the same weight as the 350 and 400hp engines.
You mean the Dexter who is a police biologist and blood splatter analysis expert making 60-75k/yr at best with the Dade county PD, who also somehow owns a 150k boat and lives in a 1.5M waterfront condo... LOL.. Hollywood...
+MotoAtheist You do realize that some of the speed is determined by the prop right? I had a boat that I troll fished on Lake Erie and Lake Michigan. Was a 24 ft Pursuit with twin 150 Yamaha's. I put the lowest pitch prop on both engine so I could drive the speed needed for the lures to work in the water properly. I could go as slow as 5 mph yet, with the boat trimmed out running wide open I could get a top speed of around 60 mph by setting trim tabs and trimming the engines in right position. Put the right props on this boat and I'm sure it would scream across the water :)
Bill Hartman Do you seriously think they would be doing a test run using the wrong props? This was supposed to showcase the top end power of these engines.
+MotoAtheist There is nothing here to suggest your claim of, showcasing top end power, in the title or description. I have no clue what they were doing, no more then you do, in this video. My comment wasn't to defend this video. My comment was simply to let people know that a simple prop change, will change the top end speed of a boat. A lot of people are clueless to this.
