I don’t varnish my cards. The rarity foil is shiny by itself, and then when I shape and engrave the card I add more surfaces to reflect light, which makes them extra shiny.

Thank you! The aesthetic of that method is pretty subjective. In my opinion the black paint contrasts heavily with most artworks, and is more distracting than a double image. What I do sometimes is cover the double image with transparent marker, if the artwork allows me to blend in the double image with the background color; unfortunately this only works for brighter colors on a darker background, and it was the other way around here.
