Thanks for the upload, sound quality is good for an old tape recording. Is it any wonder that Frank is the only muso to have an asteroid named in his honor?..and a Jellyfish.
Sjgh I was 17 drove a bunch of friends Zappa fans then in 1988 to this college in NJ with the worst acoustics leaving with a strange feeling it was going to be the last time I would see him. Don't know why ... I snuck in for rehearsals and did the dumbest thing to get kicked out I sat like right in front while Frank was conducting Sofa ...And was so young and psyched and brought my NO D glasses put them on while watching ... To see if I get noticed and did ,,, THE EXIT DOOR with my buddies,,,, We were safe before then and I did that stupid idea and still see it like it was yesterday .... Still I liked the Pier NYC in1984 more for some reason ,.... I was at I think the second night ... Frank seemed in better health and more in control.....
Am I the only laughing here? Big Zappa fan here Yes the band is amazing, and everything, seen Zappa 3 times. But No one is mentioning how amazingly *FUNNY *this is , damn it. Its a freakin' hilarious cartoon! That said, Unlike Frank's version, I saw Dweezil live actually doing a surprisingly faithful version of the tune. no dancing gnome ending from what I remember. It felt almost like he was apologizing for Frank's
With Frank, it was sometimes hard to tell whether he was being ironic or not. Although in this case, the inclusion of the 'Teddy Bear's Picnic' at the end give it away.
I saw that in Secaucus; NJ in 87 as an encore along with a Beatles medley. It rocked! I was barely able to vote I was so young, but they registered me during intermission. vote folks, or your rights will mysteriously disappear…….
