For alot of us, party culture seems to just have alot of degenerate behaviour. More and more light of it goes by with the internet too. Dont get me wrong ive been to frat parties and had great times, but I also knew most of the people and it was a tight group that kept each other accountable.

The consumption of music changed. You needed to go somewhere to listen. Then radio happened but still the best access was going out. ITunes and Spotify killed the way we enjoy music so the songs don't ever talk about clubs and such cause it's rarely there.

It's interesting to me that u seem critique clubs and bars as being places where ine can't use senses. Yet, it's jamming and dancing to music in clubs that allows people to feel the music in another way. Moving with other bodies is an awesome way to connect with people. Alcohol drinks can be enjoyed when you're not just trying to get drunk. You can indeed USE your senses.

“Technology” is the comfortable scapegoat, but there are other less comfortable trends people don’t discuss Lack of incentives compared to before: In the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s the main reason people would go to clubs was to get laid. But the shame culture behind sex has increased dramatically; most now consider drunken anonymous sex to be rape, or rape when someone regrets it. Maybe society is better without that, but parties and clubbing is going to be the cost of that because that’s the main reason why people did both. Basically, parties and clubs weren’t primarily about making friends, they were the exciting time where “getting laid” was possible. The whole culture around sex has been re-written in a very short time and the things they incentivize (parties and clubs) are the casualties. 2. Infantilization - in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, when you were 16-18, you were an adult. You could join the army, smoke, drink (depending on where you lived, if you were under age it was still no problem to get alcohol), get a car, and basically had unlimited freedom. In the ages of 10-16 kids also had WAY more freedom than today. In 1994, 12 year olds were the babysitters; in 2024 14 year olds need babysitters. Parents would dump their kids outside, and there was often a struggle to get them to come in to eat supper with the family. Now, kids are locked up-the technology is not the reason, it’s merely a tool parents use so they don’t have to deal with their kids for the length of time they have them locked inside like 4 year olds. Many adults are mostly frightened of adult things, and outright demonize them like some PSA (that we all used to make fun of). 3. Why technology is not the issue: kids had technology in the 80s and 90s too, TV, video games, computers, ICQ, and so on. There were other things as well, kids read a lot (I think kids still read, just not as many); but that didn’t stop most from socializing-there were always a few of those “helicopter parents” though that treated their kids like 98% of parents do today… those kids were more infantilized, read comics as teenagers, didn’t go to parties, didn’t make friends… and they were always miserable. Somehow, that culture just grew and grew. The thing is, eventually those helicopter patented kids had ways out of their parental enforced prisons because the rest of society functioned differently - now there’s little escape, kids grow up and expect to stay relatively childish through adulthood. Essentially, kids stay kids until 18-20, and are socially stunted, and immature. In short: • Demonization of promiscuity and redefining sexual encounters takes away most of the excitement of what can happen at parties and clubs (for men and women). • Infantilization by helicopter parenting becoming mainstream socially stunted a generation. Made them afraid/shun adult and social culture. • Technology is only a scapegoat because it’s an easy and comfortable one. But distraction technology has been widely available since at least the 1960s. There’s just more cultural incentives to use it to burn time like 19th century people did with religion and opium. Last, a much expanded group of friends is the side effect of parties and clubbing. You meet a lot of people, and it’s kind of a feedback loop because the more people you know, the more you party/go out. And you’ll probably do a lot of other things too, dating, sports, exercise clubs, hanging out, and so on.

I'm 29 years old and I just have never really clicked with alot of people. But it started from a very young age, I just remember not liking that kids would act a certain way around me, and then act totally different when they were around a group of kids. I still don't like that shit into my adult life, but I remember thinking they were just fake as shit from such a young age that I guess it made me just not bond with anyone. I have made a good friend through a previous job that I still regularly see, his daughter and my daughter are friends, and I would consider him a close friend. But that didn't happen until my adult life in my early 20's. I also have never engaged with social media, ever since I was young I just viewed it as intrusive I guess, youtube comments is literally the closest I get, so that was just never a factor with me. Also I am from a very small village, my graduating class was only 36 people, I figured that would also add a little context.

The gov is evil, and everything going on today is socially engineering people to opt out and destroy the middle class. If you're not old enough, you don't remember the time's before, the way things were before the internet and social media, and all this divisive bs going on today. You're not tripping, your future WAS 100% sabotaged. Please hang in there, seek the Lord Jesus Christ. Don't cringe at that like i used to. Millennial here (lol I always wanted to say that so cringe), my peak teen years were 2010-2014. My sisters were the it girls, got all the invites and had to take me with them. Initially I was a wallflower but eventually grew comfortable enough with our crew to dance my little heart out. Instagram didn’t have video, Facebook was still relatively new and hadn’t quite been adopted by the boomers yet. I don’t think vine even existed yet, there was just RU-vid and basically no one had a RU-vid channel. Anywho fast forward and my gen z cousin had his grad party, and it just struck my as so odd and off putting that as soon as you could feel that people were vibing and having fun on the dance floor one of the kids or a mom would come right up to the dance floor and start recording everybody. It was like roaches scattering it the light, so many people just took off because they didn’t want to be haunted 20 years from now, and also it’s just downright uncomfortable.

It's the expense. I'm 37 and had my party/club years from like 2009-2018. Drinks used to be $6-$8 for a decent cocktail. Now that has inflated to $12-$15. That's not even including cover, parking, and food. The last time I went out clubbing after Covid, it quickly turned into a $200 night. It just isn't worth it.

I legit remember watching the decline of club culture. At 19 years old, I went to college in NYC in 2010. Prior to this, I went to teen clubs when I was in high school starting as young as 13 years old. People had fun! They danced a lot and got really into it... Then somewhere between 2010 and 2015... The club culture began to die. Popular clubs closed and people weren't dancing at the clubs that were left... In the meatpacking district, (an area in NYC well known for it's night life) I distinctly remember noticing and commenting on the fact people were too concerned with "looking cool". This pressure to look cool, rather than just have fun, turned off people like me from going. I genuinely think you can link the decline of clubs with the rise in social media... People were no longer concerned with having fun. They only had fun if it was manufactured to look good... and that has only gotten worse over time.

I'm a millennial born in the early 90's. Party culture wasn't my thing at all. I kinda felt lonely there as well, since everyone was always after partying and drinking (which not the other people's fault though). But everytime I had some problems, the solution that was suggested mostly was "bro, get some drink and party with us!". Even though, it came from a good place, I had to reject. Right now, I feel more understood and heard, but on the other hand people are just unrelaxed and crazy (probably because of things you mentioned) 😅

Social media, Hollywood, Celebrity culture, and social hierarchy has completely destroyed Gen Z and will destroy Gen Alpha. We’ll 100% resort back to using flip phones, IPods, BlackBerry phones, etc. Technology is going to unfortunately fall down a pit in innovation. Nobody has the money to maintain all of the product and services that are pumped out for us consumers. We’re tired. Clubbing and party culture became a social media game. Social media is a game for popularity and the need to overshare personal information and also to create a social pyramid where creativity is dead. Art isn’t made for art, it’s made for consumers. Over saturation, everyone is blended to the point that individualism is dead. I’ll be honest, we’re all going to start rebelling soon. Boredom is going to cause us to desire chaos. I wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing people resort from going to clubs and partying inside abandoned building or infrastructures instead. There will be a black and white disparity between one collective vs the other collective. It’s the same pandemic we had in the 60’s when you had revolutionary groups like hippies, yippees, black panther, etc vs the prim and proper educated and working class. The only difference is that we have more subcultures of groups and also more access to technology which would create even more evolution in revolution. I rather go to a worn down factory and see underground artists perform vs seeing a celebrity perform at a stadium. We need to be frugal and innovative with how we view and consume entertainment and art. We don’t have the finances for what we could have anymore. The future is here now, but nobody sees it.
