“ know you’re capable “ is key. I don’t know why it’s not a moral issue? Why is a label put on it (ADHD) to give a green flag to not keeping your word? Maybe drop the term “ follow through “ and replace it with “ keeping my word”. It gives the person more responsibility. My BFF promised me a gift ( to get a picture of my dog framed after she passed. It was like her dog too) and didn’t do it. I brought it up, was disappointed. She took “ ownership “ but never did it. But since that time of the promise. ( Nearly 2 1/2 months) she has done a LOT for herself . I’m at the end of my rope.

The problem with this advice is that it isn’t practical because some of us don’t have anyone! I don’t have family and if I asked my “friends” to help with this all there fake asses would run harder than they do if I asked for help for anything! Some people don’t have anyone and can’t afford an adhd coach! So what do we do? How do we find a way to get stuff done?

I can understand that struggle, i was like that when I was younger. I would say to reach out to ADHD forums or get involved with groups / discords etc focused on ADHD and build some relations. Remember in life if you dont ask you dont get!

Thanks, guys! I’ve been struggling with a bad brain day today and in this exact moment, especially when you wake up with 0 powers and you’ve “eaten” junk dopamine (RU-vid shorts) you feel like there is no way your head can cleen up. But that was a small support from you ❤️ Thanks once again

I think I have the same problem of getting distracted by new songs. Helps to lift my mood with novelty but doesn't help much to be white noise. I have always fidgeted with the texture of my jewelry. I wear a pendant with a string with some texture and also a ring with some texture. I'm only now realising that I have always been unconciously fidgeting with these when I work. On the other hand the ends of my hair touching my skin, especially my face is extremely irritating for me. If I don't braid away or put a headband to keep the hair away, it would even stop me from falling asleep because I need the ceiling fan for sleeping but it moves the baby hair to my face. I also use crunchy snacks. I buy and keep roasted lentils near my desk. I've heard that some overnight bus drivers in our state do the same to keep themselves alert. I have difficulties having meals properly, so keeping some healthy snacks kind of cover for that also. Can we use a rocking chair for proprioception? I have a rocking chair but have never tried using it while working
@LynneEdris
@LynneEdris 2 дня назад
Rocking chairs can be great for soothing and for focus. I have a glider on my patio that I find so soothing and really helps me focus.

I feel like procrastination is just putting something off because you can/ feel like you can get away with it. Conversely, avoidance seems to be tied to the emotions & the body -- whether it's due to anxiety, perfectionism, self-efficacy beliefs, etc. I've been able to pinpoint all my lateness within the past year as "avoidance" versus "procrastination" after going through in-person therapy.

I am diagnosed with combined ADHD and I started doing tapping when I first saw it on Russell Brand’s youtube channel with Nick Ortner. Highly recommend following that video to get a quick feel for the technique:) the tapping solutions app made by Nick Ortner also has some free guided sessions I highly recommend. It’s been a game changer in regulating my nervous system <3 good luck everyone

Here's my weird thing. I am 51. I am 100% sure I have adhd. Been in denial for a long time. BUT, when I was 16 I learned how to finish projects. Really really well. Which is part of why I didn't think I have it. I definitely overcompensate for time and have extreme focus on tasks. I end up with burn out though. It is so confusing not fitting the models properly.
@livingwithadd

I've often said that your ADHD is as unique as your thumbprint, because you are one of a kind! We all have different strengths and talents, and we all learn different coping strategies and ways to compensate by the time we're adults, so there's no single "face" of ADHD, so to speak.

I struggle with shame and its hard to ask for help because im afraid of being judged..I also have trauma from exs weaponizing every little thing against me..Though they contributed to the mess..If i had a car? A lot of junk from my house would be gone already..Sadly i have to post each thing online..Or have to wait a long time to get rid of it or carry it to the city to donate..I have clutter because its not as easy to get rid of for me..I also have to pay extra to have extra stuff thrown out..As im in Germany,you cant just throw everything in the trash..I would love to get rid of declutter but i get depressed because i cant get rid of it quick enough..It ads up as im a single mom of a special needs kid to..So my load is a lot..So decluttering is not so easy.I also lack the time and motivation and health for it..As i also have heart issues.. So things pile up..Tried to get help before..But the people helping just wanted to throw everything away or pressured me a bit and in the end it was too stressful for me..Wrong people to help..

Great content, thanks for making it available. It may happen that reminders and the ability to transition (finish this, start that) go in opposite directions, and create stress and "dissonance". Do you have a take on that? Do you address this in some of the episodes? Happy to expand as necessary.
@LynneEdris
@LynneEdris 6 месяцев назад
Absolutely transitions create stress! It's such an important thing to understand and accept about our brains. And what kinds of reminders/prompts/cues work for one person is also very situational depending on what they're transitioning from and to, and how they're thinking and what they're feeling about that transition and the activity they're leaving and moving toward. It can actually be pretty complex in certain situations!

Too Good 💎 Mam what do you do to tackle the feelings of Hopelessness which can grab a person into worrying.. are there any top books on Optimism that can provide insights to defeat it..
@LynneEdris
@LynneEdris 6 месяцев назад
Sorry! I'm just seeing this. The answer to that is that it really depends on what is underneath, fueling those feelings of hopelessness. Often, it's rooted in some outdated/unhelpful beliefs and thinking patterns that need to be addressed and replaced. You might find some books on positive psychology helpful. (Of course, my ADHD brain isn't coming up with any specific titles right now, but I'll try to come back if I can find one!)
