Cheers Steven, always appreciate your acquisitions for sure , and if I’m honest always green with envy on the prices, damn what steals you get my friend. Have a terrific day man 🤛👊💪
@@brenlynch4811 and I always appreciate your kind comments. I'm shy about saying the prices because I don't want to create jealousy. But, I want to be honest and transparent with my hobby.
@@eaudetreasure I do actually appreciate your mentioning price points Steven as it keeps me grounded when hunting similar scents on eBay etc over here in the EU I have a fair cut off price point in my head which keeps me grounded, so honestly do please mention your purchase price as you always do . Thanks buddy 🙏🙏👍
Why do they change the scent of colognes from batch to batch? That always puzzled me and I’m older and don’t remember when you got a cologne, it smelled different and usually smelled the same. I mean don’t designers want their colognes to smell the same, especially if it’s their big hit cologne? I just got off eBay a slightly used Le Male Parfum with 95% full. They just shipped in a bubble bag and a few paper towels around it and no spray clip. When I opened the bag, it remakes of cologne. So some got sprayed in the bag during shipping. Didn’t know the original Le Male vintage batch smells different from the new batches. Let me check the one smaller bottle that I never used and check the batch code . Thanks
Most colognes don't smell different batch to batch. However, companies do reformulations from time to time for several reasons. One reason may be feedback from customers...another reason is the materials become harder to acquire. The main reason is probably money...if there's a cheaper way to make the fragrance that smells as close to the original as they can get, they will do it. Rather than raising the price of the same fragrance.
The good thing is it's still available at many stores in Japan. It's about $30-40, which is the right price. Like a budget Terre De Hermes EDT (although you can also get TDH cheaply on ebay, authentic not fake of course).
Your two videos motivated me to pickup a 1998 version of this today at a local rare perfume store. I have to say, the difference between the modern and vintage are quite striking. The modern, which I've worn for years, is more medicinal and sharper which you don't know until you compare it to the rounder and richer vintage. There is a wonderful sherry note in the dry down which surprised me and the mid-base is so smooth and buttery. And that bottle. Getting rid of the frosted glass really cheapens the modern version. I missed out when it was around and now I have to buy some backup bottles. Thanks again, Stephen!
Hello! I recently bought the new version a few months ago because I hadn't smelled it for 30 years (I was 17 when I had it). As soon as I sprayed it, it was exactly as I remembered. From what I remember, the projection and initial sparkle of the original has diminished, but the scent profile isn't any different. What I get now as an older guy is that cranberry note, which I love. Not sure what cactus is supposed to smell like in the base. Ha ha. I think this scent really stands out from the traditional freshies, then and now. I don't feel it is dated at all and use it as an after shower fragrance these days. Keep em coming, Stephen! :)
Over two years ago I bought a completely sealed bottle from 91. At first it smelled stale. I gave it two years of TLC and I tried again this week and to my surprise it's smelling good, heartbreakingly beautiful to smell. Any of yours dry down super smooth and woody. This one does. The memories were real. Just tracked down a 93 batch. I'm in China, and plenty of older batches for reasonable prices. Cheers Man!
Thank you sooo much for this review 😍😍 I’ve been watching reviews about this perfume and they kept using words like “bergamot” and “clean” 😂😂😂 and I can’t imagine the smell at all.
Most of the hubub around HiM was about the edp, but I kinda like the edt even more. Definitely in the style of GPHII, but more of a honeyed spicy floral. I think I got my bottle for something like $10 back in the day. As for HM, it's very much a floral gourmand, with that interesting twist of chocolate in the mid and a terrible lemon candy opening. I guess I was expecting more vanilla? Anyway, I could've picked that one up for $5 for a 50 mL and passed on it every time. 😆 Shame on me.
Ultramarine by givenchy gets hated on, but It reminds me of the first edition Kenzo homme, a more wearable version. If you like that scent profile. I think it's great. Look for the slightly green tinted juice, since that should mean it has the oakmoss. if it's blue it's probably made after 2000.
Also the first edition bottle and yours have a amberish yellowish juice. So it is the same formula. The last bottles after 2000 have a lemonade looking juice, bright yellow with the absence of naturals it lost its hue.
I'm still looking for a nice clean bottle of the vintage. I didn't really like this one, and hoping I can get a smell of a good bottle. Not one that got stale or changed a lot.
Awesome stuff. For me, I get quite a bit more florals in the vintage, especially the chamomile. But yeah, more mind blowing deals. While over here in North America, middle eastern dupes are selling for $60+. 🤦♂
Right. Coincidentally, I saw a few Fahrenheit dupes for $20 and $12. "Renheit" and "Fortnight". Reviews seem good on Fragrantica....tempted to try it. Even though I'm swimming in the OG, I don't want to use it all up.
Wow lucky 🍀 you , one of my top designer fragrances I is still today a fantastic scent and kept in fantastic reformulation shape. Cheers Steve great stuff 👊🤜💪
I didn't like Fahrenheit when I came out, but I should give it another go. In my clubbing years from the mid 80s to the early 90s Bel Ami, Antaeus, and Versace L'homme were my (quite effective) opposite sex attractants, lol.
This is not really a people pleaser. This is not a lady magnet. I consider this in the realm of Aramis....a spicy, leathery masterpiece to be loved by the wearer.
I have vintage Cosmair edition. The vintage one is more sour, zesty, woody, spicy, darker than currect formulation. And the color of the juice has a slightly yellow tint. The modern one has no color.
How has the juice held up over time? How has it been stored. My experience, as you can see in the videos, is that the juice is very fragile and doesn't hold up well.
I have this. It’s pretty close to Valentino Uomo Intense but lighter and far more screechy. The original Valentino Uomo has a more rounded cocoa note than Intense, and I find 9.0 is also missing it. For the $18 I spent, 9.0 is not bad but I never wear it.
This is pretty good for the price, $20 or less. I find the performance nothing special, but it's definitely closer to the original Dior Homme. It is missing that prominent cacao note that Valentino has.
Original release says made in Italy not France. I have a 100ml EDT Spray bottle in mint condition, thing belongs in a museum. People often compare this to Givenchy Insense, and I can see why as they're pretty similar. Definitely a masculine floral.
Yes, the vintage batches are considered the ones with the sticker on the bottom. That means around 2006 and earlier. Your 200 bottle, which should have a batch code starting with F (or possibly G), pretty much smells the same as the 90's versions.
Hi Stephen! I really enjoy these videos. Lucky you can get such great vintage fragrances for so cheap. I live in Toronto and they are far from cheap. I'm an Eternity for Men freak and hope you can do a comparison between new and vintage at some point. I've looked around, and there aren't that many on offer on eBay. Would love to know if it is worth the search. Cheers!
@@brianackin1580 I have a vintage Eternity "FOR MEN" video coming fairly soon, meaning sometime this year. Don't have a modern bottle to compare, but just to enjoy the vintage version.
How can I get Freeman cologne if you donate it? This is my address. You could donate me some please Francisco Meraz 115 Altamonte avenue Dalton Georgia 30720
I'm not selling anything at this time. Impossible to ship them out of Japan. I plan to setup an online store in the future, maybe 2-4 years down the road.
Recently got a vintage tester of Monsieur Rochas EdT.I assume it suffered some changes in the years either way I'm wearing it in these rainy days with fall temperature and it perfectly fits my office time as well as some leisure while heading home at evening.Frankly not my cup of tea yet I guess it's a pretty good choice for everyday's formal occasions generally speaking or when you aren't in the right mood to stop by and pick up a specific scent for the day amongst your line up of bottles. For over 30 only as for my humble opinion. Thanks for your upload !
Long story short I bought about 7 backup bottles of cpe vintage , you right about them not aging well. Something is definetly off, i can barely smell the metallic in it. And no they are not fake , they are the real deal . Also they definetly loose performace , I useto get 7 + hours with vintage bottles , now its more like 3 hours max.
Chanel must use very natural ingredients because their fragrances don't hold up well over time. I wonder how Antaeus does over time...haven't tried too many vintage bottles but the few I've tried seemed good.
It's definitely Dunhill 'd' and not Dunhill for men, but I've never seen a vintage tester! As for LDS, I've got 3 backups myself, but I might consider it a spicy bergamot tea fragrance. Decent dose of woody ambers in there too, but it's one of the few outright synthetic smelling scents I enjoy. Love the bottle design. But yeah, that MiB was easily worth the money alone. Great pickups Steven. 👍
