Great video, thanks. I recently set aside my Sony A7iii and returned to my RX100m3, and love it. Can you share any info on the wide angle adapter you are using?

Interesting and well presented. The Impressionist painting movement was inspired by Japanese art too. A lot to be learned from this simplified - although not simple - approach to “seeing” our world/

I am also very inspired by Japanese art. So many beautiful concepts... Simplicity, naturalness, understatement, imperfection, beauty of time marks and many others. I really love Matsuo Basho's haiku. But here it is very important to find a talented translation... Wonderful RU-vid channel, wonderful photos, thank you!

0:20 Fun tip for pronouncing japanese words: the vowel sounds never change like they do in english. so "e" is always "eh" / "aye". So in this case, it would sound like "Su me ay"

3:40 recalls the famous photograpy quotes of "f.8 & be there" and Henri Cartier-Bresson's concept of 'The decisive moment.' There are really deep truths to this. You build up all the skills so that in the critical moment, you're ready. You can see it, you know how to do it in an instant - just you need any available tool to do the job. The number of times I've seen a beautiful photo unfold before me while my iPhone lags in opening the camera app is absolutely enraging. And these are times I have my full frame camera with me, but I only have a 50mm on it and I want a shot at 24mm, etc. So I've been very seriously considering one of these compact cameras, or moving to an APS-C or M4/3 so I can have a small and light full range zoom.

Nice video, very thoughtful! I noticed that you have stacked your Kase filters together. On one end I see the regular Kase protection cap, but what have you put on the other end? Thanks and best regards from Sweden!

As you know Adrian, I have been following you for some time and have been greatly inspired by your advise and images. This is by far your most inspirational video to date. I don't use LR for editing my raw files, I use open source darktable. However, I immediately purchased your eBook as I can easily adapt to darktable which also has great drawn and parametric masks. I am currently staying in the beautiful English Lake District and am itching to get out with my camera. Once again, thank you.

I've had a Canon G5X ( the first model ) for several years, and I love that thing. It's not quite as compact as the Siny RX models, but the flash popup doesn't get stuck, and the battry door won't break like Sonys are known for.Takes great raw images.

What a superb photography video. Literature, humor, fog, historic windmills, perfect music, fine art photography, coffee... The only thing you're missing is a cat or two. But so close to perfection otherwise, it's almost forgivable. The bar is set very high with this one. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I still use my Sony RX100M3 camera for street photography and I am very happy with it. The lens is excellent but not the plastic parts of the body that fall apart after 3 years of intensive use so, I had to buy a new one !

I got to photograph that little tree on Loch Fada, Isle of Skye, last year, with the Old Man of Storr in the foggy background, delightful. I joked about Central Casting having put the tree there for me. This is the first paragraph of pianist Bill Evans's liner notes for the incomparable "Kind of Blue" album by Miles Davis, comparing the Japanese painting with the improvisation required of jazz musicians: There is a Japanese visual art in which the artist is forced to be spontaneous. He must paint on a thin stretched parchment with a special brush and black water paint in such a way that an unnatural or interrupted stroke will destroy the line or break through the parchment. Erasures or changes are impossible. These artists must practice a particular discipline, that of allowing the idea to express itself in communication with their hands in such a direct way that deliberation cannot interfere. (Can't recommend that album highly enough, by the way.)

I tried doing this two times. first with an a6100 and then with one like yours but mark 3 or 4, both times looking for what you are experiencing but for some reason I felt the lack of quality comparing with my a7iii, like I understood the portability but I couldn't feel happy enough with the investment. and Still wanting to get a smaller camera. Always thinking about the Fuji x100 line, or still give another chance to an RX100 hah

There's a course eon linked in learning called something like how to print in black and white. It focuses on not just the printer that's the small aspect of it but how to edit the photos to get the best tonality possible in Ur images. Once you can get the best with the numbers I think then you can move onto this creativity based approach.

Have you read Krishnamurti? He speaks of looking at a rose if the preconception of the word "rose" looks at a mountain without thought, without any registration of "what is". There lies the true beauty. Thanks for this beautiful video ,

Inspiring video, anchored by your excellent photography. I find myself more and more leaving my fancy rig and lenses at home and relying on my iPhone 14. I realize, though, that I don't use the iPhone to its maximum flexibility, I haven't studied what can be controlled and how to control. Now I'm motivated to compare what features it lacks that would be present in the compact cameras like you use.

Completely agree! I often enjoy photographing with my RX100 V more than with my Sony A7III and a heavy lens bag 😉 Made so many stunning photos with this small guy. Too many RU-vidrs are talking about which latest gear is the best but these won’t make better pictures. More people should realize it’s not about the gear at all. Keep up the good work!

Yep. I have big camera's. For model shoots, and wildlife shoots. But my dearest camera is my Panasonic Lumix LX100II. I like the aspect ratio switch, and the build in filters. When I go hiking, either in nature or in a city, I always take this camera. I even made a professional series with it about trees with human marks. I am really thinking about buying a couple while they are still available.

Your video is SO spot on. I have had the Sony RX100M2 since it came out, and because it had no integrated viewfinder I bought the external LCD finder, that integrates through the hot shoe and can even flip up 90 deg. so you look down from the top for shots lower than eye level. It still holds up quality-wise to my newer larger cameras, and because of the ever improving features in Lightroon and Topaz, you can resolve noise or any other problems completely.

This was certainly one of the most inspiring and useful video on youtube. Thank you! I was always fascinated by Japanese painting and I also bought a book on Sumi-e some years ago, it is always a source of inspiration and learning. Definitely will buy the two ones you showed too. I would as well recommend to look at the work of Chinese photographer Wang Wusheng, his book contains great examples on how to apply some of the ink painting concepts to landscape photography.

Excellent video … thanks very much! My Fuji X100V has an ND filter that gets used regularly. B&W landscape is my principal interest. This camera often accompanies me on road bicycle adventures with the PS Bagworks camera strap and a JJC neoprene camera case. 📷🚴‍♂️🌞

Not only a great photographer, but so generous as well. So many good photographers on the internet who won’t show others the details of how they achieve their final images. Have been following you for a while. I will download your book, and know it will help me, but the final part of the puzzle will always be, for all of us, our innate level of creativity. Kudos, Adrian.
