Hello, I am jienjien. Shogi player from Malaysia. I will make videos about Shogi, Shogi is Japanese Chess, it is also called the Game of Generals! I want to spread Shogi to the world!
Handicap games are only possible in an official setting for shogi because you can capture pieces while in chess handicap games may happen in an unofficial setting maybe for educational or entertainment segment between a highly rated player vs an newbie, each game for me has its own complexities
Hi, jienjien👋! I’m a Japanese Shogi player, and I enjoy your Shogi videos!! I want to interact with you. Do you have a Discord group on your channel or something?
Westerner here. I just started playing Shogi not so long ago. The best part is imagining what the pieces would look like. Dragon King, Dragon Horse, Generals with Gold and Silver armor. Gold is strong and tanky with heavy armor or a two handed sword perhaps, silver is quick and agile light armor and dual wield maybe or something. Coolest battlefield ever! Those are beautiful pieces.
It's hard to grasp at a glance for sure, i have to use alternative designs to recognise them easier. Doesn't help that a difference between chess and shogi is that u can necromance shogi pieces, meaning there's always 30+ pieces that look very similar on the board
I always find it a bit of an insult to shogi players to depict the way the pieces move on the pieces. Who would appreciate that if it were done on chess pieces? Now I do understand that the kanji characters can be a bit intimidating, but there is a nice solution for that: use colour to indicate what the pieces are! I have great design for that. Can be found on Thingyverse.
So, I'm also watching this video, already in minute 54:57. I'm a beginner too lazy (or not educated enough) to read a tsume book by myself so this kind of video is highly appreciated. I'm so lucky I still have several to go😊 Thanks so much JienJien🙏🌸
@@jienjienShogi yes ^_^ I actually played it there by mistake and liked it. I meant more material like this or written, your videos are like the only source I could find of people playing and/or explaining Kyoto Shogi! I am currently finishing the video and it's so enlightening, arigatou gozaimasu 😊🙏
@@ruthxk7844 I don't think there's more material for kyoto shogi.. we're shogi players just having fun in a Kyoto Shogi tournament. I can try to make a new video about Kyoto Shogi if you like!
@@jienjienShogi I'd definitely watch it! For now it's just me but if I can convince my fellow shogi club members to learn it we might become more - if I have any success with it I'll let you know 🙂
@@azergamingazur both need internet access, 81dojo is only internet, lishogi you can play with the Ai, there's phone apps that you can play offline if you search shogi
I think XiangQi is a much better, I just wish people were more devoted to quality as Shogi players. Most of use are playing on marker lines drawn on a spare wood or cardboard. I really like the floor Ban the players sit around.
As new player, just thought I’d share an idea which is a small beginner tournament. You could provide feedback and guidance for players after the match. I’d be interested in joining that tournament.
Hi there, I’m new to Shogi. As of today I’ve decided to learn how to play, as a visual learner I was wondering if you could direct me towards a site where I could watch professional Shogi matches?
Hello 👋🏼 You can watch videos from Shogi Harbour and Shogi Kingdom to learn about Shogi, and for Professional games, you can go to AbemaTV to watch on their shogi category!
I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A SUPER SHOGI CHESS WITH ALL THE PIECES FOR BOTH :3 IMAGINE ALL THE 20 SHOGI PLUS THE QUEEN AND EXTRA BISHOP AND ROOK LIKE ON CHESS OR A CHESS WITH LANCE AND THE GOLD AND SILVER GENERALS
Man really they couldn't make some distinct figures for shogi? how i m supposed to distinguish its piece when i have no clue about japanese? that's he basic reason i think i ll stay away
Black(sente) and White(gote) are decided by tossing 3 or 5 pawns (furigoma) to decide who is black(black starts first). You can also tell who is black or white based on coordinates. You can watch the full video on my channel! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-csNn0mp5lRw.html
As a chess enthusiast for a decade, I want to start playing Shogi, but I do not find a good platform with enough players, and also I am a little bit intimidated by the difficulty. Any advice?
Hello! Thanks for dropping a message. First of all I understand your pain, 81dojo is where all the international and japanese players play, you can try there. But bear in mind you can make illegal moves like leaving your king in check or putting a pawn in a column that has a pawn (or Nifu), you will lose instantly. There's a huge international community under the Shogi Harbour Discord, you should join them and they have many players that like to help out new players discord.com/invite/wggn65v
