I don't think it's a must at all for most photography but I do think it's beneficial for certain types of photography, in certain settings.

Hi Michael, thank you for posting this video. Do you have a recommendation for a black fabric that won't necessarily bounce light, but will just diffuse it on the sides? I'm thinking of Poly Silk. Thank you!

does canvas crack over time when it's rolled and un-rolled? any storage considerations?
@brianandre1644
@brianandre1644 3 месяца назад
Rolled canvas backdrops should not crackle in the surface, unless it is a planned effect that someone wants. However, I would like to mention a type that is not included in this video, muslin backdrops which are made of relatively heavy quality cotton and which are delivered folded. If you want it to be smooth (you will), spray it with water and steam iron it, then it can then be mounted on a pipe and remain smooth.

This isn't hatchet lighting! The term comes from the movie industry in the 40's‼ One side of the face is lit while the other side is in complete darkness‼

Of all the years of doing photography and dabbling into headshots the last 3-4 years, this is probably the most comprehensive tutorial and examples of using different techniques. Very well done and educational!

Thanks for this video, it really helped me a lot. I do have one question though. Is there a way to set up which watermark I'd like to use when I'm using the way of publishing. For example I have a watermark I use when I'm sending clients there proofs but I don't see a way to select it with this plug in.
@juanzavala8644
@juanzavala8644 5 месяцев назад
Yes, you have to actually set up a watermark on your pixieset account. After that is set next time you create a new collection on Lightroom it’ll give you the option wether to add the watermark or not when publishing your photos to pixieset

This was a great introduction to color calibration. Super helpful for us as we have experience in calibration but with a an old i1 years ago for our studio work. But that is no longer supported on newer macs so we purchased the spyder X Elite (still waiting for it to arrive) and this has been a great video letting us know what to expect. I'm glad we got the Elite especially after your comparison of the two. You production style is super professional and delivery / comminution is perfect. Very well done!

Thanks for the great tutorial! My explanation with color intensity & gels: flash light is like white paint, the more white paint (flash) per color unit (gel), the more diluted the color 🙂

what is the Key Light (fill) set at generally as a starting point? 1,2,3 stops under to bring in a eye catch light? i realize that the side kickers can be set to start wherever as per desired fstop choice desired and set Key (fill) accordingly. Maybe i missed that in the vid?? Im guessing the key (fill) at front of face is at least 2 stops less ?? possibly close to 3? thank you for any reply!!

so initially watched this video over 6 months ago. i looked and decided that a) my current space could not support a 7'/84"/220cm umbrella/reflector and b) not having the clients willing to pay for the product coming from such a reflector, i opted for the $55 6'/72"/180cm(ish) reflector and purchased a soft box diffuser for it for about another $20. i like what you did here, and you INFLUENCED my purchasing!!! lol

1600 ISO? WHY?
@Garbid
@Garbid 10 месяцев назад
Modern camera's can handle even more ISO. Also new tools for denoise. And main is it's easier to deal with noise than with photo which is not sharp dew to slow shutter speed.

I use this Spyder calibration system on my iMac monitor. I don’t usually print portraits, but I tried it a couple days ago on my Epson SC900 printer. I use the ICC profiles for the paper, do soft proofing and the skin tone on my subject is pink. The print doesn’t match the soft proof image at all and it’s only on the skin, the rest of the image is perfect. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks in advance!!

@waynosfotos
@waynosfotos Год назад
Hey Sal, I get this delivers a consistent product and it is a reference point to how all your prices will get printed, assuming the printer dials in the same parameters to correct different printing machines. But the whole fail here is that every single client, unless they calibrate their machines, will not see what you see. If they print yes, but most people consume photo and video content on screens, laptops and phones. So the consistency is lost.

Hey Alissa, didn't know you guys did other stuff before you had your name channel. I know you shoot profoto or Sal does but here in Australia they are even more expensive. Just dropped a bunch of cash for a set of FJ80s and accessories. I like the UI it looks simple on my brain lol 🤣. How did you find them? I normal wouldn't ask something like this in a video like this but there is not to many FJ80 vid reviews. Cheers
