Very interesting Kru, you launch the uppercut like the late great Salvador Sanchez, former boxing champion. I tried the ortodox uppercut and this variant and I agree with you: this variant packs more power and the recuperation time es shorter than traditional uppercut. Keep going Kru!
In my gym we are thought to hit with the upper part of the shin 3-4 cm under the knee. I was questioning the difference and after trying both veriations i came to the conclusion that the shin-ankle low kick is fast, low power and low and the one we are doing here is slow, high power and somewhat harder to preform. I think that it depends on your personal choice but i personally use the one a bit lower from the knee because this is what i am familiar with regardless
