I've heard an earlier recording of this song titled "Ride of the Thuringia Hussars", they definitely retitled it here due to being associated with Germany post WWI.

My father born in 1921 taught me that style from recordings he heard as a youth. I'm sure older violinist remember their teachers.

Vera Lynn is absolutely timeless. Of all the female voices I've heard sing, outside of opera that is, hers is the most beautifully haunting and I find myself feeling choked up just listening. We need more Vera Lynn's in this world.
