Glad you covered removing the braking mechanism and the motors. I'm in the middle of restoring a B77 mkii and it turns out the motors are a little noisy. If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase the new motor bearings?

Hello! I also have a question if you don't mind. I have about 4 revox a77 tape recorders, different mk. All have changed all electrolytic capacitors, all tantalum capacitors and all semi-adjustable. When I listen to music, should it also be heard when I switch the selector to stereo? I can't hear any tape recorder on the stereo, even on ch1 or ch2. I have one more question. Does the volume meter work with any of the revox a77 models when listening to music? As for me, it only works on the rec vometers. Any advice is welcome. Thank you very much. A good evening.
You should be hearing sound when the deck is in stereo or ch1 or ch2. Something is wrong with the audio section of your deck. Also the VU meters don't work in playback mode. They only work when you are recording. But I think the A77 mk 4 vu meters will work during playback if the switches are set correctly. Please check out www.tapeheads.net and post your questions there. Lots of knowledgeable folks are willing to help.

@@almandog Help me just this once I promise never to lie to you again I promise never to give you a message I just need this once souling for what we experienced
Wow, Matts place is amazing, great soundtrack of my youth in the background too. I’ve just got into reel to reel, just waiting for an Akai GX625 to arrive, can’t wait. I’m an analog guy & collect vinyl, I have vinyl in most areas of my home, mainly reggae, R&B, Soul & Jazz.
Thank you for playing Black Cow! Even though it's over RU-vids sound limitations, i can tell that everything is brighter and lifelike. Your system is phenomenal!
I can usually repair those A77 meters. I have repaired 6 so far.. I use toothpicks to center the magnets after two small drops of glue. I screwed up one, with the tiny spring coil breaking off on one end. With my 15 watt Weller pencil soldering iron and very thin solder, I managed to solder the one broken end.... after 3 tries. not for sissies.
Hello Almando. What the manual says about -20dB is that to adjust the BIAS you have to set the oscillator 20dB below the reference level you have set the machine to. If your working level is +4dB then you have to set the oscillator to -16dB. regards(Editado)Recuperar original
Hi Almando, are you ok? I'm sorry, I'm inconvenienced, I need your help, my son is sick, I would like to know if you can help me take his exam and it's 150 reais
Question almando, the silver roller that the pinch roller presses up against. Does that begin spinning when you power the deck on with a whirring sound? Im wondering if mine is acting up.
When you power up the deck, you should hear the relays click within a few seconds and the VU meters will flicker slightly. Beyond that you should not hear any loud sound. I am not home now so I can't check my deck to see if there is any sound from the pinch roller.
Your speakers deserve better amplification, Mac is for amateurs, I started with Mac and took me a very long time to try something else. Never looked back
@@almandog Looks like you'r set up to do professional work and definitely get professional results. (Sorry about the delay, I had an issue receiving notifications).
I know it's been a year... but the "extra" washers don't belong into that deck. The thin washers are used to adjust the height of the reel tables with 7" or plastic reels mounted. You normally used a shim pad when using 10" reels. So basically some genius didn't know that and fudged up the reel table height to not NEED a shim disk. And there you go. Studer would NEVER put such sloppy washers in. Every time I think I have seen everything on these decks and what someone has done to them..... Cheers from Tapeheads. I'm pretty sure it was me that helped you a year ago. You will notice that ALL Studer and Revox decks have adjustment washers under the brake drums.
Thanks a lot for your help at that time. I completed the deck, and it is a beauty. I have been getting a few offers for it. But I will keep it for now.
Hi Almando. Great work with these tape recorders. I have a PR99 MK3 I have serviced myself too. Did all the caps, new XLR connectors, overall cleaning etc. Works awesome! I have one question for you however: I noticed that my volume control pot would need some electronic spraying since I sometimes get some dropouts in sound level between the channels. It can be fixed by basically moving the volume knobs back an forth for a while, but I was thinking to use some electronic spray to revive them a bit better. Based on your expertise, which is the best way to access the volume pot for cleaning? Is there some access for a spray nozzle from the front by removing the front bottom cover maybe?
I couldn't get a bit of useful info from "2 track, 4 track, 2 track, 4 track"... If you find an oscillator board part number, what was a problem to use a mirror and check the f.. heads? Do you think 2 and 4 track heads look identical? Didn't you find a head model printed on the a shell?
Some of those decks are amazing! I have an AKAI GX-635D, a 10" reel tape deck with auto reverse which is a great feature. Back in the '70's I wanted a Tandberg deck. I don't see those around anymore. Thank you for posting!
Great, great, great deck! Had mine for 3 years now. I've also built a killer tape collection. 10.5",15 IPS is by far the best sounding. This is one of the few that plays both IEC and NAB record tapes which is a huge plus! I used these decks back in my college radio station days for commercials only! Man, who knew they were this good for playing music.
