Join me on my journey visiting all the league grounds in England, Scotland and the National League. I will also be visiting lower non league and foreign grounds too.

Massive Vale fan, home and away. Heartbreaking to admit but it is Stoke. Their seasons in thr top-flight boost it. Without them, it'd be much closer. Still, we carry on
What struck me about this video - and what a good job you’ve done, btw - is that although Pompey have the greater history, the big weaknesses are the ground and social media presence. I’m sure being outside the Prem is a big factor in both, but the club must address both if they are to have sustained success. Do it again in 5 years and let’s see who is on top! PuP
southamptons seasons in the premier league: 24 portstmouths seasons in the premier league: 7 it baffles me how people think portsmouth are bigger nowadays, their fans cling on to their trophies from the 1940s
You donut!!! You think we might finish off the stadium if we get promoted to the premier!!?? You MELT!! We already did!! That's why it looks like that now... Know your history!!
I didn't know too much about either of the two Bristol clubs until I watched this ~ But I think the 'Pirates', hand's down, have the 'coolest' Club Crest !
Fulham is very expensive for Premiership games you are much better off doing a cup match and getting a ticket in Jonny Hayes stand 120 years old next season.
Great video Matt…always had a soft spot for Brentford as their fans sang in support of the fans of my club Cardiff who were against us playing in red few years back
1. Fulham. Big stadium, wealthy, successful and stable in the prem. The highest attendance of the three, with a nice starium which is being extended and brought up to date. 2- Brentford. 2nd highest avg attendance, outgrown their stadium already. A good premier league team and very wealthy/established in the prem. News of them potentially buying Twickenham rugby stadoim to continue their growth. That would seat about 70,000 if it happens. Less than a rugby ground due to pitch size. 3-QPR quite a dated stadium they dont sell out, lots of empty seats. Chanpionship strugglers fallen on hard times with lots of growing debts. It seems like most of the local younger generations drift more toward Chelsea/Fulham/Brentford.
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 I thought it was nonsense but they've had quite advanced meetings about buying it. I can only guess that it's to possibly host European football in the future, I don't think Brentford need anywhere near 70k seats just yet. Maybe 25k, but land around there is very hard to come across.
This is one of these "Who is bigger" videos that is actually very close. QPR would be the most successful as they are the only one of the three to win a major trophy. I guess I would have to say Fulham but it's not by a lot.
@@historyoffootball87 qpr are riddled with debt and dwelling at the bottom of the championship with a very weak team. I wouldn't call them successful. Fulham and Brentford could be called successful. Both established in the premier league at this point, being run sustainably and making a lot of money.
@@mrwabbit9576 In terms of actual trophies won though QPR is the most successful, they are the only ones with a major honour, that is what I am alluding to.
That's old history. Being a big club is mainly about the here and now no? QPR have been very much left behind by the other west London clubs. Saddled with debt and losing the younger generation to the other three.
I agree, also I know Craven Cottage has been heavily extended in the last few months with an ever increasing capacity, looking forward to my trip there 👍🏻
@@R10xEditz not true though. This isn't Brentfords first top flight spell. Last time. When Brentford were finishing in the top 5 of the first division, QPR we're division 3 strugglers. QPR remained a lower league club and only emerged from lower leagues in the 70s, they've spent time in non league too. Brentford have never been a non league club since it's founding. Brentford have finished above QPR in the last 9 consecutive years. This coming season will mark the 4th consecutive year finishing a league above QPR. QPR beg the council for free land to build a stadium, meanwhile Brentford are holding meetings to buy 80k seater Twickenham despite already having a new stadium. QPR have been left behind by the other 3 west London clubs.
If you live here you'd understand what a silly question that is. Nothing against the Vale but Stoke are easily the bigger club however you measure 'bigness'.
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 I was maybe a bit harsh about the "silly question" Matt. We locals of course are aware of both clubs, but people from other parts may not be. It is ^propbably like me wondering about Gillingham and Maidstone....I have an idea but I don't really know. Anyway, thanks for your interest in both of us.
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 I squeezed right passed that old main stand to find a decent view in front of the two step metal terrace. The Bauvill Stadium could not handle 3,000 well at least Bauvill is an easy redevelopment with plenty of space.
There is no simple answer here, they are all bigger in different ways. Brighton is currently the highest ranked team (and arguably the largest local population of supporters to draw from), Portsmouth have the most trophies in their cabinet, Southampton have spent the longest period in the top flight, and Bournemouth have... what they have.
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 well Bournemouth stayed up and now Saints are going up so glad to see we'll get 3 South Coast teams in the Prem again next season. I predict Brighton will probably finish highest, Saints may go straight back down but as a Saints fan I hope not lol
Unlucky Chats but there is always next season Matt.Dont even think about being biased mate. You and me are from the area, even though we have both left the area. I went to school in Chatham. Highfield was at the top of the hill going up from Chatham station. Got my O levels there and started my apprenticeship in Rochester. Talking about your weather. Well i am up on the Baltic Coast at a place called Zingst, and its been sunny and warm for the past 2 weeks. I will try and send you some lol. Enjoy your summer Matt, and lets look forward to an improvement at the Gills next season. No doubt you will be bringing a few more vids out before the end of the season though, and be marking off your list again in august. Shame that the Chats didnt make it, but they have come along way in these past few seasons. All the best Dave
The issue of southern-based teams playing in the National League North will continue as long as we have a non-league pyramid where three of the four feeder leagues to step 2 are composed mainly of clubs located south of Birmingham. In an ideal world this wouldn't be a problem - you join the National League, the clue's in the name - but as things stand it places sides from a certain part of the country at a real disadvantage because of the travelling costs they incur. As supporters of Bishops Stortford this season - and perhaps Needham Market and Chesham United next season - will confirm.
Thanks Richard, the problem is that we need to draw a line somewhere to divide north and south and the higher up the pyramid you go the more travelling you have to expect to do
Haven’t caught any of your Gillingham videos yet though, cos your non league ones always pop up in my recommended videos, I have been subscribed for a little while now though, so will eventually get round to some, but they are your club you support, so I would expect you to be biased in them
Gutted for them, my aunt & uncle live in Gillingham, so have always watched out for them & Chatham & always want them to both to do well, personally I don’t find you too biased, you do seem to be neutral when I watch your vids
