2 things: - Italian nationality is inherited only, so being born there doesn't count, opposed to Australian which is territorial only, having Australian parents doesn't count 😅 - Andretti was racing with USA flag, right? When a driver has double nationality or some special cases, they choose a flag to race for. So by all means, Andretti doesn't count as Italian, like Albon doesn't count as British. Nonetheless cool fact about Andretti, something new I learned today 🏁
@@RadeticDaniel Ha ha.... Yes to all of that. I was specific. Not Italian, but born in what was then Italy. You are quote right. His biography is extraordinary. His life has been extraordinary. And... The history of the region of his birth is complex: From the creation of the Italian state, through the later collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and then the border changes post-WW2... All gripping stuff and Andretti was plucked straight out of all that chaos.
I’m afraid I think that we are past peak Hamilton but fully understand why he wants a new opportunity. It will give him perspective to decide when to bow out close to the top. We all know his race pace is still quite strong so in combination with Charles it should put Ferrari in contention for the constructors championship. I really admire the effort he is putting in to learn Italian to integrate him within the team. Just shows how committed he is and no prima dona.
Great banter guys. Nice venture by Rob. Many excellent karters somehow don't transition to cars/F1. Past performance is no guarantee of future success. Please get Danny Ric and Mark Webber on again, maybe even together?
I remember some years ago, when a team would make this much progress as McLaren has done since the beginning of last year and this year, all teams would be very suspicious of that! Even only more than a few tenth would be very questionable.
Oh FFS Eddie, stop sucking Flavios cucumber the guys a grub and doesn’t belong in F1. If he “assists” Renault to succeed it will be in under handed ways… F/ Him. I find it remarkable that no-one speaks of the inconsistency of ground effect in these cars and how tight the margins are that it can make big swings circuit to circuit - this is whats causing the inconsistency in coming to grips with the Tyres that Rob spoke about… how many time have we heard drivers and teams speak about balance changing/ and riding kerbs- its about the aero balance of the cars and how that effects other aspects of the car, mechanical grip, suspension.
I agree totally Rob about the Karting me and my brother did karting. I ran out of money and was always in 2nd hand gear. My brother did fare better racing for top teams winning championships but didn’t go any further than junior British karting. My boy who is autistic enjoys karting but can only afford to indoor karting once a month which is his treat. He is getting really quick but the are many kids doing leisure indoor karting who are extremely quick and could potentially has a good career in motorsport with the correct backing.
I agree with Rob’s views on Charles Leclerc as the ‘young’ apprentice lining up next to Lewis next season. However, I feel it’s now or never for him. I love Charles as a driver and person, but he must step up, make that final step to be more consistent than he’s been to date and show that he can be a championship contender over the course of a whole season. Really looking forward to see how this story plays out from next year.
In Italy they Love you or Hate you! To Drive in a Ferraris Heart is no easy task! I wish Lewis all the best! I never forget this first years and Ron as his Mentor!
16:14 Rob's face when Eddie says Flavio Briatore says he will get Alpine a podium by 2027 because he as a magic wand that make things happen. Rob and Felipe sure do know a lot about that magic wand...
Next guest should be UNRESTRAINED Danni Ric. What an own goal from the RB camp on managing this whole thing. My prediction is LL stuffs the RB into the wall on FP1 at Austin.
Have you EVER seen LL drive? Lol. He didn't get his seat becuase his daddy owns the team, he had to earn it. A lot of us loved/love Ricciardo. . .but you sound really really dumb making a statement like that. Your bias is making you think like a stunad.
How can any positives be given the car that Mercedes have built (again) when McLaren are using their engine and they’re 30+ seconds ahead on the track.
Love this channel! With the insights, guests and personalities of EJ and DC there should be more subscribers. Keep up the great work! Might want to explore RU-vid’s algorithm and how to optimise it for the channel.
de Meo's latest mistake with Alpine; bringing the biggest cheater and scumbag Briatore back. Alpine is done for. Briatore should not even be allowed to come close to a race track.
Mclaren also had penalties (for changing engine supplier) and i suspect that also held them back. that along with their new wind tunnel all now paying for itself.
If you find another Max Vertappen level talent, make F1 driver stop dating photo models, get them to date with whomever is the very fastest woman. Karts are fun, but testing talent might be cheaper and more precise with sim racing. Let's find out how much correlation there is between top sim racing talent (say, kids from African village with hardly any mobile games even) and how they stack up with karting talent selected with karting alone. Sadly, in poor countries you might get a lot more enthusiasm from girls because of the financial prospect of being scouted, the family needs it. Interest for racing less relevant. Like running is just a lucrative job prospect in eastern Africa. Like onlyfans for western girls hungry for validation and luxury items. In poor countries you are going to see child labor, simply because else there may not be enough food for the kid or its parents. Karting could become this, with a "good" enough scouting method? How do I start the sim recruitment, simple setup or motion rig to get closer to the kart/car from the get go, might that help or is the motion not precise/realistic enough to correlate with on track talent?
Funny to hear these "ex" f1 guys talk about bringing new driving talent through, and giving them a route to car driving while at the same time cars are being pushed to the side lines to be replaced with "super" golf carts, driverless cars and AI technology! May as well be getting young talent in to steam trains and clog making.
Rob mentioned about Bono not following Hamilton to Ferrari, no mention that he joined Williams when Massa did & Also Andrea Stella went with Fernando as his engineer from Ferrari to Maclaren . Look were Andrea is now the team principal which hes turned back into a GP winning team. Speaking of Lewis if hes serious about Ferrari surely hes learnt or learning Italian surely that has to be his aim & what a way of introducing yourself fluent Italian.
39:33 Who do we think it is? Fisi? Was at Jordan in 2002/2003when Rob was part of the test team. And In 2009 he stepped in for Massa in the last 2 races of the year. Bottas? Was at Williams while Smedley was there with Massa from 2014
But but but...Red Bull so dominate at the start! Yeah, but not after Miami. Just Max being Max and his pitwall not messing up. And no teammate to accidentally get ahead too often, that helps. Should Lando win it still, he may be the worst champ ever, from a relatively dominant car across the season, to be able to beat a near flawless peak Max in a RBR that had a few dominant races...despite the many driver and pitwall errors.
