Hey Chris Breiler...read your man love on the now defunct SI. Jim Harbaugh and Michigan are tainted. In a college football landscape full of sleaze....Harbaugh took it to a whole new level. Take you national championship and man love it all you want. Your program is an embarrassment. It will soon go back to what it had come accustomed to being...irrelevant. what a colossal joke your man love is. Screw Michigan.
Makari Page is considered the strong safety and plays in the box….a lot. Rod Moore was your prototypical center field free safety. More than likely Quentin Johnson will backup Page and Mangham, Walker and Hillman will battle it out for free safety. Zeke and McBurrows will be vying for the slot while McBurrows is more of a natural cornerback and Zeke more of a safety. Amir Hall and Jyaire Hill will compete for that cb2 spot. They have plenty of depth in all three levels of the D now. Jaishawn Barnham is considered to have first round potential at linebacker and is more talented than Junior Colson while Hausman will be an upgrade over Barrett. The defensive depth may not be experience but there’s definitely depth behind them. Kenneth Grant wasn’t experienced last year but was a major depth piece. I expect the same out of guys like Enow Ette, Trey Pierce, Ameyric Koumba, Breoon Ishmail, T.J. Guy, Cameron Brandt, Jaydin Hood, Jimmy Rolder, Micah Pollard; all are significant depth pieces. Michigan has been building for this to put themselves in a position to reload rather than rebuild.
The possibilities with this defense are really interesting. We could conceivably roll out 4 D-Lineman and 7 DBs and not miss a step with the size, speed, and tackling ability of the new portal additions.
I am excited about the three-deep on this defense! Edge - D. Moore/Ishmail/Nichols DL - Graham/Brandt/Lorenzetti DL - Grant/Pierce/Iwunnah DL - Benny/Etta//Bahr Edge - Stewart/Guy/Bennett/Koumba LB - Hausmann/Hood/Pollard LB - Barham/Rolder/Hewlett/Sullivan NB - Berry/McBurrows/Jones CB1- W. Johnson/R. Johnson/Harris/Pollard CB2 - Hill/Hall/Edmonds S - Paige/Q. Johnson/Hillman S - Walker/Mangham/Odom
Another overlooked aspect of these transfers is that it'll allow Michigan to keep Zeke Berry at nickel instead of having to move him to safety out of necessity. I think he has a chance to be a great nickel and I'd rather see him getting the bulk of his snaps there. Nobody can replace what Mike Sainristil meant to this program but Berry and McBurrows have a shot at being good nickelbacks.
I totally agree with this. Mangham and Walker should be able to compete with Quentin Johnson for the other starting safety spot so Berry can focus on nickel.
The best case scenario is that the younger guys on the team like Jyaire Hill at CB and Brandyn Hillman at safety beat out these transfers in fall camp. Both of those guys have higher upside and if they're performing well enough to beat out these transfers who have a ton experience, that boxes very well. I think Aamir Hall was a fantastic pick up. Guys from a lower level but were All American at that level will come in with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove, knowing it's their last shot to make an impression for the NFL. In other words, you can expect hard workers with maturity. I think Walker is great insurance on the two deep at safety. My hope is that Hillman can take that next step and vie for a starting spot next to Paige. If not, QJ and Walker provide good options. I think Mangham has a ton of potential. But he needs to get in Michigan's S&C program and fill out. I think he has a chance to compete for snaps at safety this year but '25 will be when he can really shine.
Brandon a casual talking bout Junior Colson not being that athletic or being surprised that Kris Jenkins went where he went like wtf. If you know ball you would know that Colson and Jenkins were top 3 at their respective positions. Colson one of the most athletic lb’s in the draft and a tackling machine while Jenkins makes it difficult for opposing teams rushing attack and is a freak for his combination of size, athleticism and speed. Get good at your hobby bruh🤦🏾♂️
Eh, we can agree to disagree. I loved both players at Michigan and they were massive parts of great defenses but athletically neither of them are elite and a lot of times that's what it takes to be really, really good in the NFL. I don't disagree about Colson being a tackling machine but I don't think he's great in space and I think he'll struggle in coverage against NFL backs and tight ends. As for Jenkins, he isn't really a freak in any way despite his nickname being The Mutant, at least per the numbers. He ran a 4.91 in the 40, which isn't that fast and was 5th fastest for DTs and all four guys ahead of him were virtually the same size. He wasn't in the top 5-8 in the 10-yard split, vertical jump, 3-cone drill or 20-yard shuttle, all which measure explosiveness and he finished his Michigan career with just 4.5 sacks. I think they could both be fine in the NFL, but I'll go with the objective approach versus the maize and blue goggles approach.
@@BigTenSI that’s how I know you don’t know ball because you’re counting sacks or lack thereof against a bonafide run stuffer like Kris Jenkins. You know who else didn’t have a lot of sacks in college, 1st round picks Mazi Smith, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter just to name a few. Junior Colson is a three down linebacker all day. Someone like you will judge a player based off a couple of plays instead of the whole totality of their work. Ignorance is bliss and your goggles don’t work.
@@Frank313Archie Like I said, agree to disagree. I'm not hoping that they fail in the NFL, I just don't think they're as athletic as I'd like if I were drafting. Davis and Carter were both more productive than Jenkins, not by a lot, but they were, and they're both quite a bit bigger than Jenkins. Davis is 340 pounds and had better numbers in every combine drill, I mean come on. And Mazi, who I loved while at Michigan, has not been very good for Dallas, so I'm not sure using him as an example is really proving your point. Anyways man, just relax, it's not that serious. I know I know ball and I can objectively criticize Michigan players. Fans like you, don't like that, and that's ok. I made a career out of this because I call it like it is. Sometimes I'm wrong, sometimes I'm right. It's the nature of the business.
@@Frank313Archie I don't disagree, I'm always about the film but in my opinion, there has to be a combination. Production matters when you're talking about the top 2% and playing in the NFL and it's very rare for a guy to have modest production in college and then somehow suddenly go to another level in the pros. It does happen, but not often.
NIL was always Michigan’s Achilles heal. Now that they no longer have Harbaugh and Herbert, their continued complacency in NIL will eventually send this program back into mediocrity for another 20 + years. Sad, but expected.
I think the problem is no big donors want to give money, no one talking about this, going to take an embarrassing season to wake people up I think. and get the feeling its this year. this is a 8-4 team at best
Yeah, that was my bad. If I forget to switch the soundboard back off it will echo. I ended up fixing it after a couple minutes. For some reason I'm the only one who has control over it and also the only one who can't hear it, haha.
It's like the day the music died... Don Henley. Rod Moore is hard to replace but we will move forward. This Michigan team is loaded with players that have waited their turn
I am confused i thought all Michigan coaches and former players were better than Ohio soft coaches who made them to soft? Now all of a sudden Alford is great? And former coach Hart wasn't? Interesting oh well anyway Michigan average at best
That sounds like a weak ass narrative that dunce cap fans come up with but hey, whatever helps you sleep at night. Educated folks who do this for a living have the ability to break things down in an objective manner. Keep watching, you might learn something.
What lol. Alford is objectively a great recruiter and good coach, while Hart, although did coach well, was pretty underwhelming on the recruiting front. We've been run game U for several years, yet somehow Hart hadn't secured one elite RB recruit.
@@mattdrewdrumsHe landed Jordan Marshal in 24 cycle? You know who Tony got in 23 cycle? NOBODY swung and missed. 2022 only got Hayden who was around 20/24 best Rb recruit. 21 grand slam with Henderson and Pryor. 2020 swing and missed 3x ended up flipping Myian Williams late. Elite person but inconsistent recruiter maybe change of scenery will help him.
@MrBuckeye1405 Jordan Marshall is the 12th ranked RB in the class, and it's pretty evident from his film that he is not elite-he'll be a productive back, at best. Hart's recruiting was very disappointing considering Michigan has been run game U for several years. Alford, on the hand, recruited very well considering OSU has been WR U. I think Alford will thrive here because now he can recruit at a program that is catered to his specialty.
Brady famously credited the competitive Michigan way made him what he was. It's just different there and Thank God for guys like J.J., Donovan and Blake for bringing it to it's peak!!
Why is it once a black athlete's get more attention from media that they out of nowhere can't just humble themselves and stay low key ? They looking for wealth the wrong way. They talked about him bad until he scored a couple easy runs . Just play the game big bruh . Stay away from microphones in your face much to often. They hate then love you again depending on your out put.
Donovan is a great kid who has already cemented his legacy at Michigan. It’s great to have him around for another year to bridge the gap to the next group of players making their run at greatness. Everyone (who loves Michigan) is looking forward to the run game this year. The combination of proven production and aspiring talent makes our running back room envy of many in and around the league. Go Blue!
As a coach, do you believe that he has to offer his own staff first? Imo , those guys may never get a call to the nfl, i think Jim has to show a loyalty to those who made him successful. As a coach who would have nfl aspirations, id be mad at jom had he left and then asked a coach at the college level to coach for him at the nfl level. Jim did exactly what he was supposed too, and that was being loyal first and allowing them to make that choice to stay or go to the nfl.
I like Scott Brown, Brandon... We agreed on every topic except one but Michigan will be Elite Defensively in Football and defense is what matters across all sports. "Michigan will be in the playoff because they might not have to pass the ball!" Go Offensive Lineman and Go Blue!
