You saved the day! Had to gas up my 2016 Honda CRV before going into Omaha this afternoon and then noticed this cable problem. Pulled out of line and you-tubed your video and was filling up my gas tank 5 minutes later! Thank you!!!
That little trick with trying to adjust the broken wire didn’t work at all. Gas cap won’t budge. The comment section is annoying. Also, that was one of the first things I tried when it broke cause I thought I was so smart. Guess it wasn’t so convenient for me.
Thank you! This video was posted three years ago and you’re still helping people! This worked perfectly and saved me a lot of time and money. Thanks again!!
Thanks for posting this video, exact same problem with 2013 CRV and this will be way easier than using pliers which I have had to do in the last 2 fill ups.
Thank you so much for this video! Literally down to 5 miles worth of gas and can't get the stupid door open at the gas station. With Christmas and Snowmageddon coming, I desperately needed a cheap fix. This worked perfectly! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
These cables must be made out of spaghetti. I have a 2014 CRV and have replaced this cable twice now. I do this remedy until I get my new one in the mail. It works well. To be fair I do drive for Uber, so my gas cable lever gets yanked far more than a regular Joe/Jane driving around town. But seriously Honda can you freaking make one that will last more than 60k. With the original and two replacements with my third replacement coming in the mail that is a grand total of 4 in 254,000 miles in 4 years time. I'd say its a shitty cable period. What do I gotta do, take my CRV in for gas door cable filter and lube rotation??
Had the same issue in a kids car, but instead of bending the arm, I just wrapped a layer of 100MPH Tape (a/k/a Duct Tape) around the arm, at the notch. It stays locked, but all it needs is something like your DL, a debit card, etc to pop it open.
This exact problem happened to me today, of course at the gas station after waiting 20 minutes in line. I haven't fix it yet, but after seeing your video it took me 3 minutes to get it opened. I originally called the dealer who gave me the song and dance about it should be covered by my warranty, but they wouldn't be able to look at it until next Thursday. Thank God there are people like you who take the time to put something like this together, just to help people out. Mahalo Ripitzig.
Thanks for the idea! My cable is stuck and I think that something in the latching mechanism is broken. I looked at your video used a small piece of cardboard to protect the paint used a paint sraper to find the Arm and tapped the end of paint scraper with a hammer. It opened - Thanks for the idea!, and the video
This just happend to me today. So tomorrow morning i will try this. I am exhausted from worry how much the mechanic will charge me. So thank you young man.
I've just fixed ours. The cable breaks off at the lever so it's not too hard to repair. I pulled the covering panel off and unscrewed the lever from the wall for easy access. I bought a small wire clamp from the marine store and used some earth cable to loop through the back of the lever and clamped it to the release cable with the wire clamp, Tighten with extra locking screws to keep it secure. Worked a treat.
@@ripitzig7665 Did it yesterday - works perfect - I now have an old, long out of date credit card I keep just for opening the fueld doore and I didn't have to rip out the interior of the car. Many thanks for this great tip.
