Theys don't get paid, they are amateurs and go back to work not like those soccer who are paid huge money and fall down like they are shot if even touch their nouse
Three steps with ball in hand. Hence moving with the ball on stick. No throwing the ball. 'Palming' is passing the ball by striking it with your palm. Picking the ball off the ground is not allowed. Over the bar is 1 point. Into the net is 3 points.(2-13 to 3-9 = 19 points to 18 points). Shoulder to shoulder is allowed. Greatest sport on earth
It’s not keepie-uppie showing off! The soloing is to prevent a rugby type running non-stop and the consequent difficulty tackling (legally) - the rule was brought in that you must kick (away) the ball within 3-4 steps. The players got clever and kicked the ball (away), as per the law, only to skilfully regather their own kick - that’s the inherent skill and to protect/maintain possession whilst doing so. Have a go yourself, then at full speed with another athlete breathing down your neck….😂
This commentary is very funny yet it will give some information to the first-watchers, Those wild hard men players need no protection, they get no pay, they have to buy their own boots and socks, they repair and refit their own teeth. Yes this is a though solid man game, there are no funerals after those games, wounded men get back up and fight/play on to the very end and smiles on their faces, laughing and telling jokes at the end of the game
Helmets were made mandatory in the late 00s-there were unfortunately a few people who died due to being hit on the side of the head. The “paddle” is called a hurl. You can solo “carry the ball (called a sliotar pronounced shlitar) as long as you want on your hurl. You can only catch the ball twice before having to play the ball or continue soloing. A goal is worth three points and over the bar is one point-so the score 1-13 is actually the equivalent to 16 points. And yes these guys are amateur.
Ry,you are so funny, mate. That stick is called a hurley. Ball over the bar is one point, under the bar, three points. This game is very similar to shinty, played in Scotland,in fact, every year, there are friendly imternationals between the two Celtic nations! You need to see this years All Ireland final between Cork and Clare, held Sunday July 21st....it was the best final ever and was broadcast on all BBC 2 channels for first time ever.
Hurling or Hurley was invented hundreds of years ago to keep the young men battle fit between wars , for over 800 years Ireland experienced almost continuous war , generation after generation were raised with the expectation that at sometime in their lives they’d be called to go to war , it’s now one of the most skillful and entertaining sports on the planet , no quarter asked for and none given 😂
Very old clips. The game has evolved into the most skillfully game ever played by humans. If you are from Munster, this game is your religion. The levels now are ridiculous.
Yer man's never heard of Google! Never mind, its all good fun. I'd say hurling would be more impactful cos its not like any other sport & the skill levels are through the roof.
These guys have incredible fitness. They all play and train for both county AND local football clubs. Plus they hold down full time jobs. One of my best friends played county football and one time he cam etc. my workplace 5-aside and he absolutely dominated the entire pitch LOL I didn't tell my workmates he was a county player until the end, after they'd asked about 100 times "Who IS this guy?" LOL Plus gaelic football is VERY physical...and then there's hurling...there are no wimps playing that!! LOL
