I'm Ryan (he/him) and I love talking all things board games as I'm a bit of an omni-gamer 😎. Join me on my gaming adventures where I interact with the gaming community through live plays of games that I'm interested in. Tuesdays I will be Live Streaming playing games solo, on Board Game Arena, or multiplayer. Then later in the week catch me playing something I've been really into lately.

Could you explain why you are sometimes not paying for a card? Starting at 28:05 you put the acrobat in-between the elephant and cowgirl and say you don't have to pay. I thought I have seen other people say you have to pay the difference between the elephant and either that card or the elephant and the cowgirl? This part confuses me.
This is explained on Page 9 of the rulebook. The final example explains that when you place a card in a row that is IN BETWEEN two other cards you don't have to pay money cards. Only have to pay money cards if playing a card that is higher than the highest already played card.
With a nod to Nick Fury, regarding using "convert" instead of "transform": I recognize that Hasbro has made a decision; but given that it's a stupid-ass decision, I've elected to ignore it.
@@lucasv888 At this point, Siege of Lordswall is probably my favourite Chimera to battle (has a good amount of challenge). The Frostwild Scourge expansion has some really great player cards that I’m a fan of.
@@korbyndallas Ha! Oh my goodness, I don’t know how I didn’t catch that. I was playing on easy mode…whooops! Thanks for watching, and thanks for the catch!
nice playthrough. looking forward to the playthroughs. i did receive my copy of Redux but haven't played any of the new realms yet. all i have done so far is move everything to the new box. i have all the realms as well. there are some in the book that haven't been released yet also, looking forward to them. have you noticed a difference in the coatings on the Green, Blue and Yellow cards? all of those colors have a dull sticky finish on them. they write and erase ok but are different than the nice shiny, smooth finish of all the other cards i have.
Thanks for watching, and hope you enjoy the series! I haven't noticed the difference for Green, Blue, and Yellow yet ( and I play with the Yellow cards), but I'll keep an eye out for that.
@@BreinGames Good question. The “white box” product is the 1st edition of Ashes which went through major rules changes and card balancing. It’s a product that is hard to find. With consultation, I made the decision that since those changes were made in 2021 most people won’t encounter the “white box” or have already upgraded.
@@BreinGames None of the “white box” product is compatible with any of the Reborn product that was released in 2021. If people had the “white box” product there was an/is an Upgrade Kit people could buy to have all the changes.
@@Boss-zo4lw yes these red rains expansions do come with Phoenixborn that are in the master set and expansions, but they do come with brand new signature cards that only those Phoenixborn can use.
@@MD-et8kz They haven’t said anything in regards to what’s coming after the “7th Red Rains expansion” yet. Though Nick has teased that they have some big plans for Ashes that they will be announcing later this year 😎
question from a newbie: You mentioned you can use the aspects of one Chimera with a different chimera (so maybe take the Blight of Neverset Chimera but using the Shadow aspect of Corpse of Viros) How does this work? Is the chimera itself any different other than its health/thread/ultimate values? Is the behavior card different or something? Otherwise the aspect deck feels like the thing that defines the chimera and there isnt much point to mixing and matching right?
This is a great question. Yes the behaviour and ultimate cards for each of the Chimeras are different. So when the Ultimate ability for a chimera is triggered, each of them behave a different way.
@12:32 you say it will come to retail soon, it will never EVER come to retail Team covenant has a 90 day exclusive on new product not even plaid hat will sell it and your local store will never carry it unless they can get the current cards when they come out. So you should say at 12:32 or 6:37 that new players that want the new product must subscribe to TC and if they don't like that they should just not play the game. It is too bad because I know 10 retailers that would carry Ashes if they could get there hands on the new product and place pre orders and such but no TC has to bottle neck the game for life.
I agree that in hindsight I should have mentioned the Team Covenant subscription plan, and that’s the way to get the brand new product. To say that it will “never ever come to retail” is false because after that 90day window the product is available to order through Plaid Hat and regular distribution (whoever Plaid Hat distributes through). This video though is for people who don’t have Ashes, or have very little Ashes content. Everything I mention (minus the latest Red Rains pack) is available regularly not through TC.
@@MistaRauGaming to say "I should have mentioned the Team Covenant subscription plan, and that’s the way to get the brand new product. " is false because it is the only way to get the product when it is released can you even name a single LGS that plans to carry either of the latest 2 expansions? 90 days is pure greed on TC's part and will restrict the games growth
@@mikehancoski my local game stores here in Saskatoon carry everything Ashes, and a few online retailers in Canada also carry the Red Rains expansions. Ashes was a “dead product” until that deal with TC was made. If it wasn’t for them Ashes Reborn in its current state would not exist. Maybe it is time for Plaid Hat to review the terms of that commitment with TC now that Ashes is getting a lot more attention.
Appreciate the overview on how to play. I was missing the "when do we get the rewards for unused garden spaces" part - just couldn't find it in the rules, but I knew it had to be there. Trying a solo game now and just finished round one and also realized the provided cards from DMG for the Rival didn't include the "take the lowest value die" on their cards. (nor in their rules) A typo and there are updated cards on BGG, but if you don't _know_ to look for that, you'll have a much easier solo game experience. :) I don't know if updated cards are coming our way or if we just have to print them off and maybe sleeve those cards.
Thanks for the kind words. This is a fun game, but yes I agree that the rule book could use a bit of work, and rewording/reorganizing. I would love some reprinted cards, but I doubt that will happen 😢. Hope you are enjoying the game and will have as much fun with it as I have 😎
Funny seeing this video as i have just purchased a bunch of ashes a few days ago after watching a solo playthrough. I ended up trying to get as close to the $250 spend to get the 30% off. That came to master set + all 3 red rains + all 3 deluxe expansions + 3 extra PB. $185 after discount with free shipping i couldn't resist as i usually love card games but somehow missed ashes.
So far I’ve picked up each Red Rains expansion as it comes to retail. I got the divine deluxe as well in anticipation of Siege of Lordswall. Next deluxe will probably be sympathy, but it depends on what they announce for the next expansion. My first regular phoenixborn pack will probably be Xander. I can’t stay away from dinosaurs, especially ones you can ride!
@@Birdman566 Wow, what a great way to kick off your Ashes collection. I assume then you are playing mainly solo. Xander, and all the Phoenixborn in the “divine” cycle are solid choices to pick up. Any others you have your eye on?
@@MistaRauGaming Mostly Red Rains, yes, but not much solo actually. I’ve only played a couple of solo games, though I did enjoy them. I usually play with my son. Rin has caught my eye. Ice bears and golems are pretty cool, but Harold’s cool too. There are too many for my wallet and time to allow me to get. I’d love to go in on that plaidhat deal, but alas I can’t justify it to myself right now.
Great review. I love DSA! It’s my favorite skirmish game for a lot of reasons, with the team building aspect being at the top of that list. My favorite team is anything with Davy Jones as he is my favorite character. I’ve recently been playing with random teams which is also a great time!
Thanks for the kind words! It’s been a long time since I did this review and glad that you found it. I should really return to this game as I also love it a bunch.
Welcome back! You are so right about the top X videos! The engagement on those types of videos tend to perform much better than a one-off playthrough video. Which I think makes sense! As for the livestreams, it really is draining for me, I always pencil it into my calendar to do a livestream every week, and only 1% of the time I follow through. A mix of nerves and lack of energy contributes to that! I can't wait to see your gameplay for Age of Apocalypse. Let's Go to Japan is now on my "want in trade" list. I am hearing SO many good things about it. I will definitely watch the solo video because I don't think I've seen one yet!
Thanks Dani! Live streams do take work and planning, and a lot of energy. Hence why I’m going to do them in June as my mental bandwidth is still going to be limited. Let’s Go! To Japan will be coming tomorrow afternoon 😎
I played some Mage Knight, then I received my pledges for Leviathan Wilds and Flame and Fang and I have been playing those. Good for you for spending time with your boys- they grow up fast!
Thank you! It’s been so rewarding to watch them grow up…they can slow down any moment 😂. I’ve been very interested In Leviathan Wilds and Flame & Fang…just haven’t had a chance to check them out.
