My name is Pete. I've been playing board games and card games for over 30 years.
This channel is a place to share my adventures opening packs and games, some new, some not so new.
For me it all started with Magic The Gathering in the Summer of 1993, and ever since I've been hooked. In that time I have collected and played dozens, if not hundreds of games. Popular ones such as Magic and Pokemon, to some not so popular ones (anyone remember Spellfire, Kabal, or Red Zone?), and all kinds in between.
For a while I was keeping up with all of the releases, then they switched from print to demand to the limited quantity model and I've greatly reduced what I buy for Secret Lairs. Keep in mind this video is from over a year and a half ago. 😅
I would have killed to get these. They sold out so fast I was unfortunately not able to get them. Nice to see a fan opening then either way I guess I'll live vicariously through you 😅.
@pKmNmNfOrLiFe I'm pretty sure that the October Superdrop 2022 was print to demand, but I don't remember for sure. I do remember that I had to get customer service to correct the shipment afterwards because I was shorted an English copy. I think I might have a copy in the 1000 subscriber giveaway pile.
@@petespacks yeah the super drop was PtD, the individual "special guest" was not which does not make sense to me still but I will get over it. 1k sub giveaway you say? I'll keep my eyes open and fingers crossed, not just for the giveaway but for the content along you have gained my sub.
@Herfinangle Errors happen. I bought 4 of each deck so I have extras, and I have oversized sleeves for them anyway. It's just such a weird thing to happen.
@Starwarsfan114 I'm sorry, but unfortunately it's not unusual because of the new Play Boosters. There are fewer slots per pack for the alternate treatments. They've moved most of them back to Collectors Boosters
@wagatron7697 Fourth Edition has some of the most iconic art, and the Japanese gift box has even more beautiful art added to it, definitely one of my all time favorites. 😄
It’s crazy how much lower the general power level was for cards during this era. All these cards are basically dogshit in terms of cost effectiveness and abilities. I loved playing at this time tho 😊
@BertReynolds-ph2qq That's sort of the point, that's why it was a Starter level product. It was never intended to be a competitive product, it was there to teach the fundamentals, which we're very much lacking in the current products. It was a great time to play 😄
I started playing magic during 8th edition. For me the white border is like the retro frame for a lot of other people. Still remember playing that pc game too!
@7ItalianStallion 8th edition was a pretty good core set. I'm not a fan of white borders, but it's cool that you're into them, different strokes for different folks. 😄 There are some cool white bordered boxed sets coming up soon for Throwback Thursdays, keep an eye out for them.
@MariaSowa-x6f That will eventually get its own video. My recording computer doesn't have an optical drive to read it, so until I dig my external one out of storage it's not something I can do.
We've only just begun! Hopefully I can work through two or three a week so we can get to the listing step. Working through the bulk is the first hurdle
I recommend the Fractal Pop Mini Air pc case. It’s the best modern PC case that has ODD slots for blu-ray/dvd/cd etc. This brings back memories. This was the first mtg box I ever purchases. That thorn elemental brings back memories. I still miss my 40 card elf deck that was super fast.
@TheGrimKeeper that's a cool case! I have an external DVD drive that I use on the rare occasions that I need one, but it's currently packed away somewhere in my office. It was a great time to play for sure! 😄 It looks like Elves might be coming back to Standard in the near future with Foundation. They're reprinting Llanowar Elves alongside a few others, and they won't rotate out of Standard from 5 years supposedly.
The youngins don't even know what they're missing, back in my day we had mana burn, interrupts, and had to shuffle without sleeves in the snow uphill both ways! 😂😂😂
@@petespacks when I came back to magic and learned that man's burn wasn't a thing I was pissed. I was in a match dude made a bunch of mana then at the end of his turn he had 2 mana left and didn't take damage I was like your going to take -2 life right he was like no why would I. I then said well since you didn't use the 2 Manan that you made and didn't use. Now this was back in like 2009 when I stopped playing the first time and came back in 2015 so alot changed in that time. The dude didn't even know what mana burned was he thought I was lieing to him when I told him it use to be a thing
@waltergriffith4368 I played and judged through the transition and so many people struggled with adjusting to damage on the stack and mana burn leaving.
Definitely! I forgot how silly the comic was for the guided games, but it's indicative of way more effort than what they have put out during the era of the neverending hype train.
The only thing different about fourth edition and the European fourth edition is the font size at the bottom being small and the 1996 date. I don’t see any differences in the frames or the boxes.
I'll have to put them side by side, but I believe that they widened the text box slightly for the 96 printing of Fourth Edition to match the text box size of the Korean and Simplified Chinese printings.
@RobCoops Correct Exodus was the first set with colored set symbols for rarity, Sixth Edition was the first base/core set with it, I believe Beatdown was the first boxed set that did it. I just don't remember off the top of my head what order the three came in, 97-99 are a bit of a blur. 😂
