I share the struggle of my hobbies turning into something other than doing-a-thing-I-enjoy-for-the-sake-of-fun. Writing isn’t the right term for how I end up creating stories, so I’ll say I’ve been crafting one very slowly since April. Letting it sit in the background of my life and adding to it over time has been really good for me; it’s the first time I’ve been able to build a story without feeling the pressure of some sort of self-imposed timeline.

While my friends have been trying new things (lapidary club! intramural sports! painting! flower arranging!), I have struggled a lot this year even to stay connected to existing hobbies that used to bring me joy. However, I did finally invest in some supplies and started to do linocut pieces/printmaking (and some paper making as well). That's something I've wanted to try for a long time and I'm glad I finally did! Hoping to design some Christmas cards for this year.

I’ve been thinking about a video about the hobby I’ve been getting into in the past year or so- this might be the push to actually make it (although I might have to get creative because the hobby includes a Christmas gift for someone who watches some but not all of my videos)

My immediate answer is the theme song for Over the Garden Wall, “Into the Unknown,” and now I think I’m just gonna talk about how that’s a Fall show. Also, Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons. I know I say that everytime a music list is asked for; but I think there are summer banjos and fall banjos, and these banjos are for fall.

I've had a "walking around campus in fall" playlist for ages - I think a lot of songs I associate with fall remind me of the start of the school semester, of light filtering through red and orange leaves. I think they often walk the line between feeling melancholic and hopeful. I might make a video (especially since there are newer songs I would add to my list), but a few that came to mind: "Sunrise Sunset" - We Are Trees "Parachutes" - Coldplay "The Real Moon" - Jennah Barry "Lover is Childlike" - The Low Anthem

When I started making videos all the way back in 2011, I had no idea what I was doing (I still don't, but what are you gonna do?), but I know I wanted to make videos, to create something. I look back at some of the videos and I can't necessarily say they were good. There are many things that I would change now, 13 years later with much more experience. But I don't regret making those videos. Sometimes it really is just about making something because you want to make something. And sometimes it's something you'll look back on and cringe a little, but still be proud of because you put yourself out there.
@GrahamStrang
@GrahamStrang 28 дней назад
(Long ramble ahead) I agree so much with this sentiment, i regret the projects ive never made so much more than the ones i've made that suck (although i do occasionally regret those too 😂) Take it from a man who's made 611 episodes of this garbage 😂, its well worth it because at the end of the day i have maybe 50 to 100 videos that i would recommend watching. I also for some reason am very strongly against deleting any of my old content, even some videos that are deplorable cringe fests 🤣🤣🤣 As a fan of old music, a lot of my favourite artists have ammassed say... 30 or 40 albums of material, and in a lot of cases thats what makes them so exciting to me, that there's a whole world to explore in their work, and inevitably in that work there are those albums that fan communities largely agree missed their mark. At the end of the day i think those artists' bodies of work are so much richer for having those 'stinkers' than if those products had been shelved or forgotten about. Also, the George Harrison analogy was the perfect way to explain that for me thank you 😂
@calebfromtherealworld
@calebfromtherealworld 27 дней назад
@@GrahamStrang I totally agree. I think all you have to do is look at musicians who’s career we’re tragically cut short like Freddie Mercury or Sam Cooke. If they had lived longer and been able to make more albums some of those albums probably wouldn’t have worked, but it’d be worth it to get more songs from them.

obligatory copy-paste of the Martha Graham quote: "There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open." I've shared this quote before but I will continue to do so forever because I do think creative expression is one of the coolest things humans do, and that it only happens if we keep the channel open, despite internal doubts and external pressures to close ourselves off. she also said there is no satisfaction, "only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest" and though I do think there is some satisfaction, there is no *ultimate* satisfaction. you will always be able to imagine more than you can execute, and it is that constant reaching-striving-which results in divine dissatisfaction. in the midst of it, stretching beyond what you think you are capable of feels uncomfortable, but each time you do it, you realize you can reach a little further than you could before, even if you never quite grasp what you are reaching for. also: you will see us tomorrow but we will not see you! we will see you the day after tomorrow. how strange!

I did some research and made comparisons to the early church written in the Word and the modern church. I found at least 26 major differences, which I cannot name all of them here. The main ones is no fear of the Lord, Laodicean, little spirit of prayer, spiritual immaturity, and pastors becoming spiritual CEO's instead of shepherds. The biggest one I did not include is the subtle deceptions presented in many of the new modern Bible translations. All of them have roots with Westcott and Hort, whom were secret occultists. Entertainment fills our services, the Holy Spirit is shunned, and churches building their own kingdoms, using God as a crutch to boast of its works. We are so far away from the apostolic succession on the early church, only buring our works down and start over in silence and prayer will the American Church ever get a glimpse of power and glory of God and His holiness can show the world. Until then, the enemy mocks us and watches our folly as the days of Lot rolls on...

Living in Cleveland for as long as I have, I’ve certainly grown an appreciation for the dedication to a team regardless of if they’re any good. I don’t think I get it- the ship sailed when I went to BW, I think- but I can certainly acknowledge and admire how much passion people put into this. Although a quarter of my high school not showing up the day after y’all won the World Series was still a bit much 😂

I went to Miami in 2003 for the playoffs. The airfare, hotel, and tickets were cheaper than trying to get tickets at Wrigley. The Miami fans were very cool to us. I remember one Cub fan being obnoxious and they would yell at him to shut up but I don't blame them. We wanted him to shut up as well.
