Good to see..Canons was great when I started carping around 2004/05. Had 13 carp & a barbel in 4 hours once,top lake.Went twice in 2021 and not a touch (top lake).Fished bottom lake in 2022 though and was getting double runs. Don't know what happened to top lake but have had a few low 20s in bottom.
Hi Andrew. Is this Hollowell res? If so i've just joined and was wondering how bad the otter problem is on there. And also how you've got on with carp recently.
Hi there, yes, it is Hollowell. There have always been otters there but personally I've not seen too much evidence of damage but.there are that many fish in there, pike, bream, roach, perch, that they have plenty to eat without damaging the carp stocks too much. I haven't fished there since covid, so I can't really comment on the current carp fishing. It's a beautiful place, though, and fantastic for spending time night fishing. Perseverance is the key to both methods. It usually takes a little while to get bites on corn. Try fishing close in with maggots and keep trickling some corn in further out, 6 grains every 5 mins and then try it in an hour, if you get no bites, repeat the process and try it again a bit later 👍
In good, I mean warm weather with no wind and the no wind is key, this place makes you want to go home because your arm is in bits! 20+ carp in an 8 hrs session is common. It can go crazy!! Right hand side, half way down the lake. Fished it many a time over the years. Great place🎉 In fact am heading their in the morning for the first time in over a year. Mid April, bit early but heyho. Been windy last few days with rain, tomorrow is meant to be lots better(he says)
Boilies always fish well, but corn, meat, and large bunches of maggots will catch equally as well, providing you don't get pestered by small fish. Tight lines.
Thank you. I find when the float goes under or the tip goes round, or the bite alarm goes off. Even after all these years, I still get an adrenaline-rush 👍
Always a good idea when fishing a short whip to have a couple of extra sections ready in case silly fish turns up also allows to fish a bit further out
Hey Andy, great video as always, I’ve not seen this one of yours so I thought I’d scroll through your videos and have a look, never seen an eel before, last time I was near an eel was when I was about 5, my dad had hooked an eel, of course he couldn’t see what it was as it was pitch black at night time - but my dad said he seen it wriggle in the moonlight 😂 #tightlines my friend 🎣
Great video, I love fishing right at the margins always seems production for me. What unhooking mat do you have, looking for a new one to replace my old 20 year one that is far too bulky, also did it come with the sling.

Thank you, Chris. The Grand Union canal usually fishes well anywhere along its length. River wise, the Nene is normally good. See where the nearest stretches are to yourself, they may be worth a try? Tight lines 👍
@mickcone8018 you will enjoy it 🙂 Don't fish too far out if you are float or pole fishing. it's quite deep. If you are feeder fishing, then it doesn't matter, and they do like a bit of groundbait. Good luck, it's a lovely lake 👍

good session Andy, some lovely stripeys there! just one thing, I must have missed something regarding your bait! to start with it looked like you were using mashed bread to feed, presumably to bring in small roach and consequently Perch? I'm assuming 3 maggots or worm on the hook?? cheers👍👍
I believe I did say what depth I was fishing at and the setup I.e. float capacity, shooting pattern, main line, hook length, hook size at the start, but I will try to include a few more float shots next time 👍 Thanks for commenting and tight lines for your next trip out 🤞😎
