Just excellent, great to see Alan, Kenny and Charlie, all sadly no longer on this earth. All great musicians and a really tight sound and by a super line up.
Looks like it was recorded around 1972. In my opinion the best version of this song is on Live Dates II. It was meant to be released as a single but it never was to my knowledge.
Ok, so this was all before my time, but I’ve been a dj, crate driver and student of music for 40 years (and lived half my adult life in the UK) - how am I only now figuring out how good these guys are? (I’ll admit to hearing Baby Come Back I’m Idiocracy - but then figuring “this song is so good, they must be one hit wonders”) It’s not just a one off - there’s ten songs that should be in the 60s canon (and that’s more than half the bands in the RnR HoF).
And check out Eddy Grant’s look - New Wave / New Romantics 10 years ahead of time! Why didn’t every record exec in the business go after him and try to make him a star?
First time actually and 2:58 purposely listening to the equals in May 2024. How many years am I behind time? I just realised that I knew Michael and his slipper tree but never knew that it was by the Equals . And this album just popped up after I pĺyayed Black skin blue eye boy. I was about to dismiss it when lo and behold I saw that the Artists was the Equals . Well my finger went from pause to play and what great music flowed And I get to see the group when they were just kids A hugh Bonus. Thanks for the upload
I was at a trivia night a couple of weeks ago and someone mentioned this song and wanted to know who sang it. I could not remember, but now that I have found it (after all these years) I will let them know. The song makes me want to sing it out loud. Ah, these were the best years of music.
I always wondered what Crosby, Stills & Nash might have evolved into if Nash had called up his old pal and invited him out to Laurel Canyon. Idle speculation, but Clarkie will always have his own place in the pantheon of pop/rock voices. I remember seeing The Hollies at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh in 1977. Clarkie could have sung without a mic. What a powerful voice!
Allan Clarke looking and sounding fabulous, as usual. Cool Flyers jersey! I would have given him 1000 bonus points if he'd jumped off the swing........😉
