It was actually a valid question. The problem was her wording and the "smugness" behind those words. If only she asked it in a genuine manner, like for example "Is there any reasons why SpaceX only hire American?", it will be an interesting question as I can imagine most of non-American would be confused as well.

Well, if letting non-US citizens not work on what’s considered national security technology, then it would make only sense not to let millions of illegal people into the country. Just looking at it from a national security point of view.
They only hire Americans because it’s for national security. There are people from other countries but most likely nothing major positions that could leak Spacex progression.
