The longest run in this area is from Klein Matterhorn to the car park in Valtournenche 17km, but from KM to Zermatt is not very long at all, certainly not 25km !
it is just me or do the slopes look more like blues with one red? Some slopes marked as red and you need to push yourselves with the sticks cause it's going uphill. Nice video though.
Yeah, I would say that some sections are on the border of a blue/red but I also think that the superview setting on my GoPro compresses the vertical part of the frame making it seem less steep than it actually is
Hi there, thanks for the vids, I'm heading to Obergurgyl next week and would only be an advanced beginner, so just wanted to ask if red 33 is a red/red or a blue/red ?! Thanks
Hi, from what I remember, it’s mostly like a blue but there’s a couple of steep parts. This was my favourite slope though so you should definitely try it out! Have fun when you go!
Yeah I think this is one of them but the main one is run 6 (also on my channel). Run 6 is longer and also ends up at the ski school meeting point. I think it’s also closer to most of the hotels. There’s only one lift from run 12 but there are 2 lifts from run 6 which each have a stop so there’s lots more runs you can get to from the base of run 6. Have fun in January!
Ski cam footage is so much better these days! I’ve been to Obergurgl once, I had a great time but my wife hated it. She felt it catered too much for the rich people in the 5* hotel on the slope. We stayed in the more reasonable Hotel Wurmkogel half way down the slope which was fantastic. I would have gone back as the run from the very top to the very bottom is one of my all time favourite ski experiences.
Yeah we stayed in a 4* hotel which was about a 3 minute walk from the lift. It’s really nice to have a run which goes from the top to the bottom, especially because it’s not a very steep run to end the day!
Night skiing is a whole heap different from daytime. Night skiing will take your technique back at least 5 seasons which is why your upper body is fighting the early section and you are neither planting your pole nor making smooth turns. The gliding section at the 5m mark gave you a reference with other skiers and everything from that point improved. Concentrate (in daylight) on keeping your upper body facing down the fall line and defining not just the start and finish of each turn but the transition between turns. The smoother the transition will define the advanced/expert skier from the intermediate/advanced skier. All that aside, good for you in completing the run in one go. That takes a lot of energy and you should be well chuffed with yourself. Sorry if this seems patronising - not meant to be - artificial light plays tricks and for 100% of us that ski, we revert to our core competence. This is a BRILLIANT training tool for all skiers hungry to improve. Sometimes improvement polishes core competencies. Other times it highlights errors in technique that need to be changed. Thank you.
Thanks so much to the original poster and @angusg220 . I was about to do the Obergurgl Night Ski this evening with my kids and OH. This has made me realise that it's not for us after reading the feedback and seeing that the pistes aren't cleared for the evening event. We've done night skiing before but only on a very gentle run in Katchberg. The Obergurgl no 6 run was quite icy this afternoon so it a no from me for this evening.
This piste wasn’t as shaky as it appeared on camera, the video only appears shaky because of the lack of light. I would definitely recommend trying out night skiing here - even if you take it a bit slower!
@@MadMango07skiing Thank you. We were persuaded into it by my 11y old daughter 🤣. The slopes had been groomed and we had a brilliant night after all despite me approaching 50 and being unfit too. Thanks for your response, much appreciated. Obergurgl is fantastic. 🎿 🏂 ⛷ 🎿
