Hey Chris! Nice shave! I am going to use my Gem Micromatic with an injector blade! It works well! I have some of those WWI shave sets! I just picked up a Gillette army issued khaki set! Its in wonderful condtion! It included the rare mirror and even the two thumbtacks that a soldier would use to pin up the mirror to a tree! So interesting to think what part of the world that razor had been to! I also have the Army issued Autostrop razor with the original cardboard blade bank, canvas case, and leather strop! I got that at an antique shop for $20! Those military sets are incredible when you can come across them! Thanks as always for the video! JimG
Difficult to unload or remove the blade; twisting handle to loosen and tighten very stiff. Not a good choice for traveling. Sure, end-tab covering is nice but also interferes with trying to remove the blade. I tried blade removal both from the top cap of the head, and from handle-bottom-plate part but blade stays trapped at top cap because of the screw-thread part. Trying to remove the blade by handling on the cutting edge section is a bad move. Blade's end tabs are not in reach. Cheap - about $7 on Amazon. Maybe a stick with a magnet on the end should be included?
I'm almost afraid to try a head shave even though you recommend it. Clogging ALWAYS happens when I do head shave with any double edge razor; I need to remove the blade and manually push off the clog. Rinsing and lather hydration are never enough. Blade is DIFFICULT to remove from this razor, including when wet during a shave.
@Grotto666 I like the shave from both. I do shave with my gem style razors a lot more, it is because I have more of them, I have gem Personna coated stainless blades in bulk and I get more shaves out of them compared to an injector blade.
Good video, lost my hair due to chemo a few years ago, when it grew back it was different, softer and less curly. Anyway I think I’ll keep mine for a while.
CD, have you tried the King C Gillette blades? I bought 100 from Amazon for about 15. bucks and man they are the smoothest sharpest most long lasting blades I've ever used!
@jackkeller737 Not yet, I plan to review their older victory model and the new one. Also, their TTO Razor, I'll pick that dual comb as well to try. Thanks for the suggestion.
I just tried a quick web search. Amazon sells the razor including 1 shark blade, $6. Razor Blades Club sells the razor including 5 platinum d.e. blades, $9.
I would be lost without my desktop PC, I use it everyday for watching YT, Netflix, Sports etc and also use it for all my YT video editing, & FB postings. I do keep a spare though (my previous build repaired), so could get up and running within a day or two. Agree the handle on the Sterling is not so good but shaves ok. Take care Chris👌🤠👌
Good to see you! Going well up here! Great shaves, really improved my ATG technique, the Techs are treating me well. Ordered a red plastic snap top LORD razor for $7, just for fun!
@rightsideupvt that's good to hear, I've had that razor recommended to me a couple of times, and I look forward to your opinion of it on your shave of the day.
Hey Chris! That is an awesome razor, especially for the price! It's perfect for travel and even as a daily driver. If you desire a heavier handle, a vintage Tech handle will work on that head! Another good Tech clone is the 3 piece Concord razor! Try that one if you haven't already. Thanks for the video! JimG
Good one Chris, good idea to cut back to a two pass after a bad shave. I do like Lord L6 with the Merkur type head great cheapy, have not tried the L5 Tech head version. Nice clean looking shave Chris👌🤠👌
Nice looking shave Chris ❣️ It's a pity Derby soap production has been discontinued, I liked it more than Arko. Have not tried the Jikoryen Turkish soap.👌🤠👌
Good information on the Derby & Jikoryen Turkish shave soaps, Thanks! Glad I've got some Derby tubs and sticks, also Jikoryen sticks, to last me the remainder of my shaving days.
