La potenza del cinema è davvero straordinaria, in alcuni casi addirittura oracolare, divinatoria: nel dolore di Maria lo spettatore può prefigurarsi lo strazio che Susanna Colussi proverà qualche anno dopo di fronte il cadavere del figlio. Talvolta il valore universale degli episodi evangelici sembra far sfumare il confine tra possibilità e necessità.

This proves that in the right repertoire, Callas' voice didn't wobble as easily. She kept it focused and agile. But she wanted to prove she could sing the heavy stuff too... but at what cost?
@@Orfeus80 well manon lescaut was too late for her, 1957 and she struggled a ton then with strong dynamic top notes. But yeah even in 1950, 1951, 1953 aidas and 1950-1953 toscas she often screams and the vibrato is also often much wider and slower than ideal. I dont know why she didn't do anything to correct this. She had this problem even in 1949. The liebestood F#5 pianissimo is wobbly, also the G#5 forte. And obviously the high E-flat in puritani 1949 studio. I wonder if she thought that this vibrato was great, okay and accpetable
@tanyaokain192 I find her vibrato suffered less against the light bel canto orchestration than the heavier Puccini, Verdi and Wagner orchestras. Hence, I don't find it a problem in the early Lucias, Elviras and Normas but I agree with you about the Aidas, Toscas and that first Liebestod where she pushes terribly. It was a flaw she had from the start, no singer is perfect, she had a lot of other great abilities.
@@Orfeus80 but it depends on the year too, not just the composer. Because Callas wobbled much more in bellini's pirata in 1959 compared to how much she wobbled in 1950 wagner's parsifal.

Un film davvero meraviglioso. Attori bravissimi. Sopratutto Elizabeth Taylor ( che avrebbe meritato un premio Oscar). E la sublime Katherine Hepurn in un ruolo veramente indimenticabile. Bellissime le musiche e la fotografia. Un capolavoro.
