I was considering doing the exact same process to my C6. I'm glad to know it works and came out this well! I would probably also consider applying a hydrophobic clear on top to protect it.
Same thing happen to me the way u did this im sure ur aux fan still didnt work not only that ur recirculating button doesnt work either so just getting in hot exterior air very frustrating on super hot days
