I use third engineer as a brand because from March 1969 till march 1985 I was a marine engineer in the merchant Navy and sailed for a number of years as third engineer which was my rank which I enjoyed very much.During that time I visited 70 or more countries from North/Central and South America,Middle East, Far East India Pacific Islands Briefly Australia, Medi, Europe and Africa including seeing steam in South Africa.
Well done Brian for getting this lovely video. Beautiful camera work as usual I am really looking forward to seeing your next video I hope you get a nice video next time also when is your next video going to be on RU-vid bye for now Philip
Thanks David did not realise it as the black 5, my fault for not being on the ball usually there are early you tube videos from the northbound run which I should have picked up on! Just had a 5 min walk from my girlfriends at Chatburn expecting to see the Spam can. Thanks for the response Brian
@@tonyjones99 remember it well I was on the Shaftesbury on a Liverpool River Plate run when we got the news. I knew a few of the crew on the Royston Grange having done relief work on board in London a couple of times for around 2 to 3 weeks whilst the regular crew went home but no one ever wanted to leave the ship as it was a good run and steady number with a round trip of around 3 months with a short visit ti Rotterdam en route. Thanks for the response. Brian
Glad you enjoyed it Nige the weather was good in my area after a bad forecast. Quiet weekend will we have Tangmere again next Saturday. Its doing a good job but is BIL not back from its holidays down south and is 46115 out of action? Cheers Brian
@@thirdengineer Neither of those are air braked Brian, Carnforth only has Tangmere and Ian Riley’s 44871 which has been working down south to use with the CDL stock they have available unfortunately
Thanks Steve.Only one hour bfore the return was due it brightened up and stopped raining. So I set off from home on foot and got to the foot crossing just in time to set up my cameras .Cheers Brian
@@TheStephengthompson Thanks Steve yes its a nice spot and it is private property however I was introduced to the owner about 2 years ago who kindly lets me film there. Cheers Brian
Remember well a ships visit from Gravesend sea school to view the Harwick Grange. To my eyes a beautiful ship and everything that going away to sea encapsulated in 1976. Who knew that by 83 it was all but over for the once great British Merchant Navy. Ships, shipyards & crews.
Great collection of photos there Brian, there’s something to be said about the old classic buses , they’ve got that classic style which we don’t seem to have anymore, cheers nige 👍
Thanks Nige glad you liked my selection as you had previously been to Malta maybe you remember the old buses? It was the Malta experience riding on them. I loved it and a lot of the drivers had added their own touch and decorations to each vehicle. Those were the days. Cheers Brian
A lovely view of the arches from the side of the nab followed by a great pan, the trees look to have grown on the approach to Billington crossing. Regards, David
Thanks David ,lovely evening a lovely view, nice of you to complement me on my panning as it is my weak spot but I try.Heck of a trek up Moor lane to the location and at almost 78 it hard work! Cheers my friend. Brian
Many thanks for the response, nice panoramic view but a bit of a walk up the hill as there is no places to park as it is too narrow a road with the odd passing place. However the result was worth it! Thanks again Brian
Very nice one of Tangmere over Whalley viaduct Brian, busy spot round your end with the Midland Pullman and tangmere, also the Dales rail came through today as well, just missed the pulman at hellifield by 2 mins, if on time would have seen it as i was on my way to KWVR Diesel Gala, cheers Steve .
Very good Brian. Thanks for sharing. I'm guessing the spot that you were filming at on both sides was a crossing for pedestrians at their own risk? Regards Stephen.
Not quite Stephen .There is a public footpath that goes underneath the railway which is on a bridge. I set two camcorders up on the offside from outside the bridge railing. I then set one tripod on the nearside and a forth camcorder on a goliath type gripper on the bridge railing. I did not cross the track and stayed outside the fence and left 4 cameras running and only manhandled one zoom from the outside of the bridge.Hope this answers your question. Brian
Thanks for you kind response Thomas. My normal style is to take one or two stills off my movie at home with my camcorder and start my film with them along with titles so I dont spoil the film. Cheers Brian
Thanks Nige great location but the wind was awful, l assumed it would be bad over the S & C so stayed local.appreciate your kind comments cheers Brian👍
